When you generate a TOC, you will have a loaded cursor that you can flow on to a page, creating a new text frame, or replace an existing TOC. The styles within an existing frame will have no connection to how the styles of the toc are applied. This style needs to be created beforehand. And then assigned in the TOC panel > Entry Style

The article that Eugene posted has 2 workarounds: "Print as Image" or "Rasterize all Elements through Transparency Flattener". Personally, I like the "Print as Image" method, it can be done with one step.

While I do not have programing knowledge of font encoding methodology, here is some basic information about UTF-8 and UTF-16. Each of these encodings can encode the same amount of information, just different procedures to identify characters. Endianness then adds an additional layer of complexity in regard to assigning and accessing byte order. My experience with ID data merge using (csv and txt) and (UTF-8 and UTF-16) specifically with accommodating cyrillic and arabic characters, UTF-8 has worked more consistently over UTF-16.

I have not tested and compared CC2017 data merge - new document vs. direct export for this issue. Unfortunately I am going on memory of older versions, but I believe it was CS4 that required direct export for PDF/VT, which allowed for static data to be written once and used repeatedly. Make sure to use Press Quality or PDF/X-4 with compatibility of Acrobat 7 (PDF1.6) or higher when exporting to PDF.

Is inDesign rendering the static content for each page? What version of Indesign are you using? Older versions of Indesign required exporting PDF directly from the Data Merge panel to achieve optimal result of static data written once. But that is not true with newer versions.

Keep in mind, with Indesign Data Merge, you have one or the other: a multiple record merge that steps and repeats - but only one sided. Or a single record merge - 2 sided. There is a workaround. But requires resorting your data file to accommodate the cut and stack imposition. Here is an example for 16 postcards/records for a 4 up cut and stack imposition: First Step: Reformat Data: The data file is sliced into quarters and transposed with multiple records in one row representing 4 records. Data file will look like the following: Header1 Header2 Header3 Header4 Header5 Header6 Header7 Header8 Row 1 Name1 Address1 Name5 Address5 Name9 Address9 Name13 Address13 Row 2 Name2 Address2 Name6 Address6 Name10 Address10 Name14 Address14 Row 3 Name3 Address3 Name7 Address7 Name11 Address11 Name15 Address15 Row 4 Name4 Address4 Name8 Address8 Name12 Address12 Name16 Address16 2nd Step: build merge template with all the placeholders positioned like the following: This method would use single record data merge, with 2 pages (front and back) for the master merge doc.

Data Merge and Cut & Stack Imposition are 2 separate functions that require 2 separate applications to perform. Indesign can certainly perform a single record merge that can create 2 sides for all postcards. Cut & Stack imposition can be accomplished with a dedicated imposition application, PDF plugin, or integrated within the DFE of a digital printer. Are you preparing file to print yourself, and if so, what kind of equipment are you using?

A single record data merge creates separate non-threaded text frames on as many pages as there are records. To reiterate, the Auto Stitch plugin will combine many separate text threads into one continuous text thread. This is helpful to combine the multiple records, but in no shape a data management system. Another suggestion would be an XML workflow.

What you are trying to accomplish will not happen with a multiple record data merge. Even though some things are working, like the auto fill text frame, and the step and repeat function of multiple record. Here is a workaround you can try. It requires multiple steps and a plugin. First you would do a single record data merge. Then using the Auto Stitch plugin, you would thread all records into one continuous text thread.

A placed link with overprint does not show up as a preflight error in Indesign. The fact that it disappears with overprint preview, sounds like it's a graphic, And would need the overprint turned off in Illustrator.

As far as I know, there is no solution to preventing unwanted navigation in Acrobat/Reader. There is a workaround that might work, and that really depends on the amount of content/pages in the presentation. If there is a low amount of content, you could create a PDF with just one page. Each button would show and hide additional content, rather than navigate to another page.

First, create a swatch for the gray, make sure that it is a spot color. Then, from the swatch panel flyout, select New Mixed Ink Swatch. Then create your duotone mix of gray and black.

The Pathfinder tool in Indesign is not as extensive as Illustrator. The workaround would be to do this in 2 steps. Before performing the action, copy the objects. Once the first action is completed, power paste the objects and either modify the cutting shape or change the pathfinder action to achieve the desired object.

As Bob mentioned previously: Publish Online does not support form fields. Even though you can create a form field, and then Publish Online, the form field will not display at all in published format. The Text Field is used for fillable form PDFs that you create in Indesign and then export to PDF. The PDF can be distributed in various ways, and also the data collected can be captured in various ways. This process is not done exclusively within Indesign, and requires Acrobat.

The instructions you posted are for creating form fields in Acrobat from a regular PDF that did not previously have forms. If you have created the form fields in Indesign, you do not need these instructions. But keep in mind there are more things involved that require working in Acrobat to make this PDF an online form.

Drop shadows and Bevel effects are Resolution Independent Effects (RIE). What ultimately dictates the resolution of these objects are the devices that renders or rasterizes the object. While object is in Indesign, the drop shadow or bevel effect is limited to monitor resolution. If you flattened this object, you will rasterize the effect based on the flattener setting selected and of course remove the resolution independence aspect.

What Avery template number are you using? Make a frame the size of the badge, then group the art and text holder with this frame. Then position the group in the upper left hand corner. In the Merge panel, the margins will match the margins of the Avery template, and the spacing will match the gutters of the label as well.

I downloaded your file and opened in CC 2015. I used your specs, and did the merge, but did not have the unwanted fourth row generated, the merge came out as expected. Perhaps, there is something up with CC 2017

You can create in Indesign a radio button, check box or combo list form element that can have multiple actions based on the choice the user makes in the PDF. The Yes choice could advance a user to the next page, however, there is no way to prevent a user from navigating to any pages within a PDF they like. The form element can have actions that could hide and show other elements. And, in effect, create the situation of allowing or preventing a user to do things based on prior choices.

This is the default Acrobat behavior of a checkbox in a PDF, and unfortunately nothing can change it.
