Hey Kain, what led to this is that I had a credibility issue with my old Dell. it was showing different colors and I was not sure if it's a hardware problem or a software. turns out it was mostly a hardware problem since it was going yellow on me. but also software - because I could not calibrate it properly. the Eizo comes with a built in color calibrator and a very high reputation for color correction. I needed that kind of credibility for my clients. I then bought another Dell and I use them both. set my dell to display as best it can to my Eizo and I can now trust my monitor again to show me the right colors. ... View more

Yes, you can do that, if you need to use applications without color management. I do use color management sometimes, not wide gamut but sRGB. I need to do color corrections sometimes for Video and Broadcast. the wide gamut features are not important to me since I don't do print work. if I do need to, I do know I can set my Eizo to a wide gamut range. Otherwise, purchasing a wide gamut unit and then permanently dumb it down to sRGB is a massive waste of money. I don't agree with that statement. the Eizo is wide gamut but the thing that is most critical to me is how accurate it is for Color Correction and Grading work that is done in Rec709 or sRGB color space and I bet that's why most people who do video purchase it or the Nec's. they don't really can afford the Flanders or Sony, so they settle for these guys who can be just fine on most situations for color critical work on video. thing you need to remember, is that every time you do this, you need to close down and relaunch any color managed application in use. yes, I was aware after testing in the last round. thanks D! ... the warning is if the space that you're preserving for the disk cache is more than 80% of your free space. it was designed this way to avoid filling up your disk to its maximum. if that's not a system disk you are reserving the space in, you can just ignore that warning and check the never warn be about this again. ... As I understand it you need to make all layers into 3D layers to work in the camera view. you don't have to set 3D in the subcomps if you don't need the transformations or blend modes and effects inside to pass through. if that's the case simply make sure the collapse switch (sunburst icon) is no turned on for the precomps and just make only them 3D.  Is there a way to mark a layer in a comp and it's subcomps in an easy way. maybe there's a script for that. some googling is required maybe it will find something. ... my guess is that you have passed the 3 hour limit for a layer, then the keyframes would not be visible. it's a UI limitation/bug ... View more

yes you are correct. it seems there is not script for it. what you could do is manually set those keyframes to be one frame after the other and then use the Alt key to expand them evenly as you drag the last keyframe. this will keep proportions. ... View more

Op wanted to know about light alternatives to RGB+Alpha. you suggested Animation and I suggested Prores. I use both BTW. as I wrote, Animation more often than not will be big sized file. Prores can be bigger but can be smaller, much smaller. I am struggling to see the point of this discussion. no one is arguing about the information about these codecs, the issue is small file size alternatives to .avi on Ae. Animation has been my classic codec of choice for many years because it's fast and easy to use (no presets - just render and go). if anything on other platforms I find myself defending the use of it still. it is always lossy. ProRes4444 is lossy but also visually lossless. for all intents and purposes it's a very accepted format in post production workflow for all types of footage. still don't know what is your point. are you saying Animation is superior? in chroma subsampling - yes, in bit depth - no, in file size - to my experience it's often not. Feed it the right type of content and the results will be extremely well compressed; Sure but should I change my content to make my file size optimized? on some scenarios Animation codec will be more suitable. it is intended for graphics and with solid flat colors it will produce smaller file size probably. put one gradient in there or glow or even drop shadow and the results are totally different. plus if you want mathematically lossless just set the quality to 100. That is why full support for QT Anim was left in After Effects Not full support, delta frames support was removed for Animation codec, maybe they will bring it back. in the meantime it is fixed on 100 since the last Ae versions, you can't change any of the settings of Animation. It is the standard archive/mezz format for motion graphics stuff like lower thirds and callouts. I know. jamesn44620985When I export the AI symbol into AE, the layers are merged rather than kept separate, so I can't do anything with the symbol in AE as far as I know. you should separate the elements you wish to animate to different layers. Ae only converts the top most layers to Ae layers. read about it here: https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/preparing-importing-still-images.html#preparing_and_importing_illustrator_files I'd like to be able to replace a weather symbol in AI (eg from sunny to cloudy) and then save the file to update it, while AE uses a precomp to animate WHATEVER that symbol is, on specific parts of it, eg the cloud, or the sun and so on.  Is that ever possible? you could do that. if you replace the artwork in the layer in Ai, it will update in Ae. but maybe what you should do is create all the various elements you need in Ai (cloud, sun, rain etc. in one file) bring them all to Ae as composition with layers, create animation for each in it's own comp, and then in the master comp you can place the one you need from the library of comps you would have in your project panel. if you need to replace an animated symbol in your timeline, simply select the replacement in the project panel and use the replace source short cut Ctrl+Alt+/. here's an example of a similar setup of a weather map we use here: ... since 2019 you have prores export on windows.it's a virtually lossless format and I have found this produces the smallest file size on most situations. still miss Quicktime PNG which was deprecated since CC2018. ... View more

you can use the Corner Pin effect or CC Power pin effect, but if these are vector shapes (Ps Shapes), then using a perspective effect might not be what you are looking for... in Ae you can't have the same Ps flexibly and free transform freely each of the points individually. you can select the path and press Ctrl+T to get a free transform handles but you can't Ctrl+click to get an individual control of the handle. in this case (vector shapes that have a path parameter) you might as well manipulate the shape manually using the path parameter (Ps shapes come to Ae as mask shapes). ... if you want to track a mask there are tracking mask options: Using the After Effects Mask Tracker this will make Ae do for you and create frame by frame keyframes but with much better chance of doing it accurately. this is not the best option for traditional rotoscoping. you can also use 2d or 3d tracking and attach your mask to the tracking null. and there's also the rotobrush feature. ...
