It's the most recent Windows 10 updates that has caused the issue, if memory serves me correctly the update is called 20H2. It might be you could remove the Windows update and see if it resolves the issue with Fireworks, but then you may leave your OS open to security vulnerabilities. The most frustrating part of all of this is, it is the licensing aspect that is a problem and not the actual core software which functions perfectly fine on Windows 10.
My gripes is this; Fireworks is included in the Creative Cloud Suite that people pay for, so therefore we should get a service update to fix the issue, nobody as you say is expecting new features, we all know the situation with Fireworks, but that doesn't make us want to stop using it for its quick/intuitive workflow, there's nothing quite like it...
FYI, I tried to reach out to a couple of people at Adobe about Fireworks, and got no replies.... I think the only thing is for people to try and help each other here and find solutions...
