there are a ton of how to web articles out there, but if you don't have access to a hardware profiling package or the skill to effectively use one of the eyeball calibrators -- on a laptop panel -- i might recommend setting sRGB as the default monitor profile and see how that works out a simple test is to open an RGB image, select all and Image> Adjustment> Desaturate if the result is a pure visual b&w tone (no color cast) that's a good sign any color cast in a desaturated RGB image is a bad sign (your monitor profile is off) also downloading a copy of the Whacked RGB PDI image is great reference tool for evaluating both monitor and print spaces and workflows ... your method and it has not worked. This works for every image I have used not sure what you are talking about there but whites appear yellow in Photoshop, troubleshooting defective monitor profiles, hardware monitor calibration are all solid search terms on google if anyone wants to use Photoshop as an 'accurate' color proofing reference monitor, they may be better served by setting a custom ICC profile as their system default monitor profile (not sRGB) ... EDITED: okay, since you didn't get a mismatch or missing profile warning Pasting pixels into Photoshop with my settings - that means Photoshop is using the correct ICC profile (your copied Source pixels are tagged the same as your Destination Source Document) at that point - if you feel Photoshop is not displaying your Pasted pixels properly - i would be stumped and would return to the basics (get a known good file like the Getty-PDI test set and ensure the monitor profile is okya and that Photoshop is functioning properly) you may also want to troubleshoot your monitor profile for known bugs/issues ... try Edit> Color Settings> Color Management Policies (all three PRESERVE, all three boxes CHECKED) that should give you a warning in Photoshop that points to the problem and asks how you want to proceed the problem, more than likely, is Photoshop is applying a different Source Profile than the other apps (your other apps are either not color managed and/or you are feeding them untagged documents)... ... I'm not particularly anxious to uninstall and reinstall... This is HOURS of work. simply clicking on the Trial screen "Start Trial" option (not License This Software) is working for me and saving me from having to enter my serial every time and it allows me to work with the latest updates hopefully Adobe will have a fix before the Trial version runs out... ... Do a 'Save As' instead just a word of caution if anyone is trying to "match" an sRGB Photoshop Hex color to CSS HTML Hex by using Photoshop Save As (for example, match a Photoshop background color to a color specified in HTML) Photoshop File> Save As: .png seems to embed an ICC profile (regardless if the option is grayed out) that, of course, will cause most color-managed web browsers to mismatch the Hex colors (the .png colors are converted to Monitor RGB and the HTML colors will pass straight through to the monitor unaltered) ... PNG-24 on the other hand will give you the exact color match Sudarshan Thiagarajan, you're right!  Thank you that is very useful information here. It is interesting that .png works and .jpg doesn't.  I recall a few times past that I saw a slight mismatch and now I can watch out for it and work around... ... View more

if the SFW .jpg is untagged (you set the Hex while in the sRGB colorspace and stripped the profile as i said) when you open the .jpg in Photoshop you first need to Edit> Assign Profile: sRGB -- it should then sample the correct Hex is that not happening ... View more

for viewing on the web (and on the monitor) -- i would CONVERT the .pdf only to the sRGB ICC Profile and be sure to embed the profile for printing -- you don't say if it's a CMYK printing press, an ink-jet printer, or if it is going through RIP -- so it would be rather meaningless for me to speculate a profile (use an RGB source profile for most inkjets; a CMYK source profile for offset press; a RIP on an inkjet can print either CMYK or RGB... know your workflow) i generally keep the original source profile until i make the one Conversion to final destination profile for packaging read up on Photoshop "Soft Proofing" gamut issues for out of gamut color... ...
