AE updates only result in bugs. After using it for 15 years I should know by now to wait for the release after when all the bug fixes come but I never do. This version is so unstable it is BEYOND A F**ING JOKE, ADOBE. Seriously, you have had a year and all you've given us some content aware bull crap that no-one will ever use and a load of bugs. GOOD WORK. Install more RAM? I have 128GB?? Do I need more than that now to render one frame of HD? Moving back to previous version. Looking forward to the fixes.

This update is the worst update to any software I can ever remember. Even worse than when AE rewrote their underlying architecture a few years ago. Firstly, the new UI is laughable. It looks like it was designed by Fisherprice for children. I changed the workspace to fullscreen and now none of the menus work. I can't get back to preferences so I am eternally stuck like this. There was nothing wrong with how the old system of getting data back to AE worked. The new method of extracting from the plugin just seems really slow, cumbersome and counter-intuitive. There was nothing wrong with exporting and pasting in data as previous. Now you have to close the software and then think about which dropdowns and layers you need. It's two interfaces to do one job. It's a backwards step. I've just inherited a project from another user, I need to tweak some splines but whenever I try and move a point the default action is to move the feather point. I have used Mocha since it was Monet and cannot for the life of me fathom how to do something as simple as move a point. What an absolute joke. This whole thing is a mess and is change for the sake of change. It's badly thought out and badly implemented. I will be sticking with my old versions of standalone and the Mocha Pro plugin for the foreseeable future.

Nothing to do with your Express. We use a combination of Internal Intensity 4k and the older external Intensity Pro thunderbolt for the mac. This is a software, not hardware issue.

I you are seeing this every time you close a project I believe it is an issue between AE 2019 and BlackMagic Desktop Video Drivers 10.11.2 and later. Running 10.11.1 will fix the problem, as will sticking with AE 2018. BM have been notified and hopefully will be providing a fix. I would be interested to know if anyone else has seen this as we've had it on two Win 10 systems and on Mac also.

I reckon there are save issues across networks in the AE 2019. We work on a 10Gb network and our QNAP has an m.2 SSD installed for cache so our whole setup is rapid. All assets are saved on the network. Saving a 1MB project locally happens in an instant yet on the NAS AE hangs for around 5 seconds before saving.

Me neither, I've never used SLI. It's only useful for games and generally messes with everything else. If you look inside the nVidia control panel though you will see that by default all your software will be set to use both GPUs (global).

Yes, gfx card driver roulette isn't exactly a proper solution. I wonder if it's a coincidence that we are both using dual 1080Ti? This has just made me remember an issue I had a few versions ago with Premiere. I was suffering from really poor performance until I want into the nVidia Control Panel > manage 3D settings and then set Premiere to use only 1 GPU. Premiere is only capable (or was at the time) of only using 1 GPU so the fact that both were enabled was freaking it out. I've just done the same for AE and will report back later on today.

I get that 20 years ago hard drives weren't the quickest and there was a limited choice in codecs so it made sense to playback from RAM. But now we all have SSDs and DNxHR exists I don't get why AE has not been re-written to playback straight from a hard drive rather than shovelling it into RAM first. Uncompressed I gather would be a strain on most systems but this is overkill anyway, certainly for playback - I challenge anyone to point out any differences between uncompressed and DNxHR HQ and if people wanted to keep working uncompressed then the option could always be there to playback from RAM but for me and I would assume many others 10bit DNx would be fine. A choice like in Resolve would be ideal. I get a bit sick of running out of RAM on a longtime or having to suffer stuttering playback even when everything is cached as AE is busy putting disk cache into RAM for stuff further up the timeline. If Adobe pulled their finger out even slightly then AE could be a finishing system to rival Flame/Smoke/NUKE studio. Add in a non-linear timeline that we can drop our comps into with disk playback and hey presto it's done.

Seems this is related to nVidia drivers even when MT is outputting via my blackmagic. Uninstalling nVidia drivers and letting Windows install it's own version of drivers seems to fix it. Not a permanent fix for me though as I need proper nVidia drivers to make other stuff work ie Octane.

Since the AE 15.1 update my output via mercury transmit freezes periodically and the only way to unfreeze it is to switch to another comp or footage window and then switch back again. At first I thought it was my Blackmagic card but the same issue also occurs when outputting via MT to a second monitor attached to my nVidia. Updating this morning to 15.1.2 hasnt fixed anything. We've noticed this a lot recently with comps containing puppet tool with newer versions of AE, older versions would render the same comp fine. Seems Adobe have made some 'updates' recently that have broken things.

This was mentioned in the AE forum but was never answered. On the Avid site DNxHR HQX and 444 are both listed as 12 bit yet in both AME and After Effects as mov or MXF they are 10 bit. Is this an error and they are actually 12 bit or have Adobe somehow managed to engineer their own 10bit version of DNxHR? If so when can we expect a 12 bit version? Came here to report the same bug. This used to work fine prior to the 2018 'update'. I do a lot of recutting of NTSC footage to PAL so I would always start by changing the 23.976 footage to 25fps in Premiere before cutting, then copy and paste over to AE. This used to work fine and AE would see all the clips as 25fps but now they come in as 23.976 which messes up all the in/out points. Changing the clips to 25fps works but it would be nice if things could go back to how they were please before please ie working. It would also be nice if frame holds from Premiere got carried across to AE as well.

What type of question is that? Yes of course I have tried it hence why I know it is laggy and unusable. Have you tried it on a large project in a production environment? Or have you just tried it with a couple of solids and a null between you and the one other person who seems to be working on After Effects these days?

Probably because the comp you are dropping into is precomped within the comp you are trying to drop on. Thus causing a never-ending loop which may make the universe implode on itself if this were to ever happen.

Just like to add to the OP's point. I too am experiencing lag when moving masks, almost to the point which makes it unusable. After every move you have to keep your mouse/wacom very still otherwise the point moves. I'm guessing this because of the live save to the cloud? Why does it need to do this? Why can the project not stay unsaved until it gets synced - just like After Effects has always worked? Team Projects are long overdue and I'm glad Adobe have finally (belatedly) gotten around to implementing it but in it's current form it's not production ready yet. Can someone from Adobe explain to why it needs to be cloud based? Surely there are far more users needing to collaborate together on a project within a post house across a network than people on the other side of globe to each other? Local team projects make far more sense than cloud-based.
