oooooo man!! i really dont envy you!!! basically the screwed up so many things in the new after effects. -ram preview doesnt work any more, for example if i have my comp at 100% zoom it will never play real time, so basically i will never be able to see what i am working on with absolute precision. -now layer controls and rendered composition are not synked, so if you want to scrub in your timeline and you have a lot of null objects is going to be an incomprehensible laggy mess. -all user interactions (moving shape layer, edit text, scubbing timeline, ecc) get insanely slow very fast, really hard to work with. so forget about complex project!

thats how it is now with after effects. get used to it or go back to 2014 2015 after effects. i have the same problems, we all have the same problem in the office and there is nothing we can do....

this is a typical composition with master properties. note that layer 18 and 20 are composition with master property themselves, Some other compositions with master properties have jpg and mp4 footage in them, but again nothing special.

i have a simple expression that links the first point of the shape lazer to a null. createPath(points = [thisComp.layer("Null 20").transform.position-[960,540], [100,0], [100,100]], inTangents = [], outTangents = [], is_closed = false) this works untill i move the position of the shape layer. is there a way to tweek this simple expression to make it work even if i move the shape layer? i am thinking about a toComp command but i dont know how to put it in. i am also aware of the "Create Nulls From Path.jsx" but i dont want to use it now, i want to keep it simple. thanks!

After effects IS slow and choppy, i get slow and choppy performances all over also when working on 720p using 1070ti, i7-5820k, and 64gb ram. i dont think there is any system that can give you a smooth experience with current after effects. unless you are using old versions of after effects(CC2014), in that case your renders are still gonna be slow but at least the user experience and the ui in general is going to be snappy.

hi shivangi, so i cannot update after effects right now, i work in a studio and half of the pcs still have win 7, and we have to be all on the same ae version. May be we will update next year, hard to tell. i dont get this error with every project, i get it every time i use essential graphics / master properties i have tried to purge everything and change settings multiple times, i always get the same error. the only thing relevant that i noticed is that if i activate "hardware accelerate composition layer and footage" i get slightly worst performance (wich is ironic).

i want to link with expression Y position of Layer A to Layer B ( B is Parenter to C). i tried to rearrange expressions like: L = thisComp.layer("End1"); L.toWorld(L.anchorPoint); or thisComp.layer("childNULL").toComp([0,0,0]) but i cannot make these expressions work just for the y value. my knowledge of expressions is too limited please help!

i really like essential graphics, great idea! but of course it is orribly bugged! not just for me but all pc in the office have the same problem. we use 15.1.2 if my project uses essential graphics the pc slows down and with time it gets to a point that i cannot work any more (everything become super laggy and non responsive), so after 20 min of work i have to restart after effects and i get the string memory leak (83 :: 2) error.

i had similar problems with text recently, its very hard to tell what it is and it can fluctuate a lot. Sometimes is slow sometimes is extremely slow. to a point that is just impossible to work. And i also asked in the forum for help but i couldnt find a solution. i just think that at this point ae is in a very bad state and its not safe to work with new versions, too many unpredictable and unsolvable issues. my general advise is always to use the old versions.

somewhere between ae v13 and v14 they changed the redraw system. the new ae is much slower than the old versions regarding user interactions, what you are experiencing is totally normal. if you dont like it, use older versions of after effects. you can read all about this here: AE CC 2018 ridiculously slow

i totally agree with you. it seems that in the last years after effects developers are doing more harm than good. i also work in a big vfx company and recently i asked to the IT guys to take a look at the problems i have with after effects, they laughed at me, basically this program is a joke in the vfx industry. but still i think AE could be a great tool even for the high end industry. What i like about it is that you can do many many things in one software, it would be great for pre production, and as far as i know there is no other software that could replace AE in this regard. I think adobe should learn from maxon, the way they are developing c4d is almost perfect in my opinion. at maxon they have something for everyone, the casual user and the high end user! and c4d is stable, really really stable! Please adobe dont forget about us!

win 10 AE 15.1.2 i7-5820k cpu 3.30ghz 64gb 500 gb ssd 1070 ti gtx + 1060 gtx I always get this message when i close after effects "string memory leak 83 :: 2" basically when i start to work everything is fine but after few minutes after effects slows down a lot, it takes 20 seconds just to start previewing a composition, everything is super laggy and unresponsive, its just unworkable. i goggled it for hours but cant find clear answers. most of the people seems to be saying that this is a problem related to dynamic link, but i am not using dynamic links. i think the problem are master properties because if i don´t use them this problem seems not to show up, is this possible? is there a fix? thx. thx guys, tried the multiplication tricks and seems to be working fine. but in the meantime i did it in c4d and just rendered the sequence, one would think ae should be good for this kind of tasks, but personally i find c4d much better...much more versatile and intuitive but thx!

as the title suggest Slider Effect cannot go over 1 million. this is very annoying and hard to understand in 2019. (also unbelievably number effect cannot go over 30.000) i am tring do animate a youtube view counter that goes over 1 million. using this expression on a empty text layer n = 0+effect("Slider Control")("Slider"); < THIS IS THE SLIDER CONTROL s = "" + n; str = s.substr(-s.length, (s.length-1)%3 +1); for (i = Math.floor((s.length-1)/3); i > 0; i--){ str += "," + s.substr(-i*3,3); } str Any work around? or alternative tecniques?

your cpu 4.8 ghz probably helps a lot with after effects. anyway i think i have a more clear picture of what is happening here. when i start after effects everything runs ok (very slow but ok). and then after working for 10 /20 min everything becomes super slow and unresponsive, so at this point if i close ae i get this error: string memory leak ( 83 :: 2)

thanks for the help! i am using AE 2018 v 15.1.2 this problem is present on all my colleague pcs, running same ae version with different pc specs. i am having this problem with nothing but one text layer in the comp, as i said i am doing simple stuff. what i would like ae developers to understand is that some people work in studios, i dont have administrator rights on my machine. troubleshooting theese problems is almost impossible for me. they cannot continue to release these buggy new versions. every time there is a new ae version is a nightmare, i spend more time on the forums trying to solve new bugs than working. i dont have these problems with c4d.

The problem is definitely the text. when i have text in my comp everything becomes unresponsive, laggy and slow render. i am not doing anything fancy, i am just animating random lines of code. it is as if the text object is insanely slow. even if i type the world "Hello" i can clearly see the performance dropping, if i convert the text "Hello" to shape layer everything runs better
