How can Adobe Premiere Pro be considered a professional NLE contender when it doesn't support the files coming out of one of the larger camera brand's cameras? One would think that Premiere would have been ready to go with NRAW before NRAW was released, not a year after. Perhaps Adobe should repair its relationship with Nikon so this can happen?

Hi there! A quick question: what is the right way to share a Premiere Pro project to another editor'/person/company to continue and finish the edit? I just shot a project where the editor asked me to put my selects onto a timeline and "AN ACCOMPANYING PREMIERE PRO XML FILE OR PREMIERE PROJECT FILE CONTAINING YOUR ORDERED SELECTS IN A TIMELINE".
Is there a way to export the project files WITHOUT the source video clips (they already have them) or should I just send over the actual *.prproj file? Are there preview files that go with it? How do I may the XML file?
And sometimes I have other people make a rough edit on my videos and then I would like them to pass me the project so I can finish the edit. What is the best and easiest way for me to get their project?
I did see something online about cloud sharing the project file? That is something different from what I want right?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Yes, the original sequence seemed to have set itself to 720x480. I ended up making a sequence at 1440x1080 (or something like that, more or less a 4 x 3 SD resolution at 1080) and this was exported the right size and very crisp and sharp. The footage of the original sequence was exported really low quality look like crap. The source files were exactly the same. I wonder why it would export but worse at the smaller resolution.

Thanks, I'm shooting mostly with mirrorless or DSLR cameras, can I use the AVC-Intra HD and DNxHD presets as well at my project settings? With all those different options, I wonder if they only work properly with the native camera footage.

If you all for the replies, yes it does make total sense to this radically clipped the sequence Thank you all for the replies, It does make total sense to either drag the clip onto the timeline to start a sequence with the desired settings, which includes 4K resolution, or choosing to "make sequence from clip". I was asking because sometimes I use mixed formats and clips, there might be some HD, there might be some 4K, certainly different frame rates -from 24fps to 60fps. And if I finish in HD, I may put the project settings to HD resolution but pan and scan the 4K footage. Conversely, sometimes I would like to finish and 4K and my footage is only 1080/HD so I have to test to see if the footage will look somewhat crisp when it's upresolutioned that much. But that's a great tip, if all my footage is the same, or I have a format in one my clips that is a resolution I want, I can just drag it in the timeline to start the project editing.

Please consider me a newbie, although I have been using Adobe Premier since around the year 2000, I have been using other software and am coming back to premier Pro now. I was an Adobe Premiere power user before CC and also use Adobe Premiere elements.
Question about starting to edit a project; when I create a project and import a collection of media into it, the media is imported at whatever resolution it is natively in.
And if I were to drag a media (image or video clip) onto the timeline window, it would automatically start a new sequence every time, with the sequence using file resolution that I dragged in right?
Is it possible to start putting media on a timeline without there being a sequence created first?
I AM ASKING BECAUSE I recently made a music video using medium resolution still photos and a wav file, no video clips. When I dragged the photos onto the timeline I think it made a sequence or something, and when I exported it, the video file was very low resolution and even the titles I put on (captions) looked very blurry.
When I made a new sequence and specified my actual HD output resolution and copied and pasted the entire timeline from the first timeline and pasted it into the second sequence/timeline, it outputed as super sharp and clear with smooth captions text.
This makes me wonder about what happened the first time I dragged the images to the timeline, either there was no sequence and PP was just spitting out something low resolution, or it somehow guesstimated the low resolution of the photos and I’ll put that as the resolution (which was 720x480).
Does anyone have an explanation of what happened to make the first output so low resolution?
This is a long question for simple response, thank you for reading down to this part.

Hi, quick question. When starting a new sequence and choosing the (eventual export) settings, almost all the presets are for HD resolution. To get 4K I usualyl choose the DSLR/Camera HD 24p preset and then manually change the aspect ratio to 3840 x 2160 px. With current technology making 4K (and soon 8K) more common, you'd think there would be 4K presets.
And honesty, if we shoot with one camera (i.e. I shoot with Nikon) there is is no need to see so many presets for other cameas.
Is this how you guys set the sequence size in Premiere Pro? You manually type in the aspect ratio?

Please help! I cannot open my current Lightroom catalogs after I reinstalled Lightroom CC Classic. The error message says "cannot be opened because it it too new to be used...?" What I did: 1) I noticed that my LR program wasn't importing a folder. In order to solve this I did two things: a) Installed all the updates for Windows 8.1 b) Uninstalled LR CC Classice 2) Then I went to the Creative Cloud panel and installed 'Lightroom CC (2015)' as its the only option. 3) Then after I open LR I will use it to open my Catalog, which worked just prior, but now it gives me the error message. What am I doing wrong? I assume that installing from the Creative Cloud panel would give me the most current LR, right? IS THERE A WAY I CAN save my current LR catalog as an previous version, so this can be opened? Please help.

Hi there, I thought I would reply to this thread, rather than start a new one. So I have been shooting to 24p for most of my projects as Steve suggested. But tonight I shoot my project in 60p as there was too much ambient light. I still would like to output my file to 24p (blending frames, not to add slo-mo). However, poking around the project settings and export settings.... I can't seem to figure out the right way to do it. It seems to default to exporting as 60p, there are no presets that I can select to render the video as 24p. I did go to (in the Export Menu) >computer > custom > advanced settings and choose one of the 1080 24p High Quality settings but it wanted me to make a Custom setting, which I did for 24pm and setting my bitrate. By the way, to keep the video looking sharp and crisp after its been uploaded to, say, Facebook, what bitrate should I be rendering at to keep the quality after Facebook compression (or instagram, or Youtube compression). Is there a better, correct way to do this? And why is the advanced settings showing us a large list of possible settings but not actually allow us to select and use them in the custom settings? Thanks

One thing unexpected happened. I went and "uninstalled" the Quicktime Player through the Quicktime install window. The files still show up in PE2018. Thasts good. But now, my normal WIndow's Media Player doesn't play MP4 videos anymore. Do I need to update or reinstall it now?

Thanks everyone. Yes, it was the Prores Codec Issue. I found that Handbreak did give usable results if I set the conversion bitrate at 50,000. However, installing the Quicktime drivers allowed me to import the actual files into PE2018. Not sure if I should keep the Quicktime player on my computer, since Apple is no longer supporting it. But it works.

Hi there, I did a video shoot today and the main camera was a Fuji XT3 and recording into an Atomos Ninja V. The shooter gave me the MOV files but they show up a green videos in Premiere Elements 2019. Do I need to download Apple Quicktime 7.79 to get PE2018 to be able to edit them? Is there another, better way? Please advise what I need to do in order to edit the files. Thanks, Ronald

Hi, I appears that the Adobe software saves its preferences in my 'This PC > Documents > Adobe' folder. I'd like to change this to another folder on my root drive for all the software (Windows 10). How would I do that? I looked at the Adobe CC App Manager but it doesn't appear to be there. Any help is appreciated.

A question to the community about shooting in the *wrong* shutter angel. So if I'm shooting on a DSLR with the intention of exporting my videos in 24p, I'm going to either be shooting in: 24p with a shutter speed of 1/50th or (with my cameras) 60p with a shutter speed of 1/120 so I can do smooth slow motion in Premiere (done by increasing the length of this clip by 40%). Some questions about this: 1) What happens to me video quality if I accidentally shoot at 1080 60p BUT at either 1/50 or 1/60 (instead of 1/120)?. So slower shutter angle? The video still looks ok on playback, it doesn't look to blurry. Am I imagining this or will Premiere Elements will be able to handle the 24p output fine on the video? 2) To slow down the 60p footage, I am going to be extending the length of the clip by 40% right? What if I don't extend by 40%, but say, by 20%? Will the slow motion still be smooth and seamless? 3) If I am outputing in 24p to get that cinematic look, is it ok my source video is shot in 60p all the time? OR, should I shoot in 24p all the time except for when I want to get some slow motion? 4) Is there an easy and obvious way in Premiere elements to see what the frame rate is of each clip? Or do I have to right clip and go through a menu each time? Thanks in advance for your advice. Ronald

Hi there, I think I'm about to upgrade from PE11 to PE2018 and I'd like to ask you experts here if 2018 can do these? 1) Can it handle 4K input, output and using 4K video for PAN & SCAN to output in 1080p? My PE11 cannot handle pan & scan it seems. 2) How does it edit 4K? Does it make small proxie files or something or is it showing the actual 4K video clip when we work on it? Asking as it can be a memory hog. 3) I prefer the look of 24p for final output. If I shoot in 60p in case I want to do slow-mo and then choose to save as 24p, will it be a smooth and good conversion to 24p and have that filmic look I desire? If not, then why am I shooting in 60p? 4) Does PE2018 have filters I can use to color time the video clips? It would be great to give it filmic looks and even better if there were some preset filters so I don't have to color time manually every time. 5) Are the titles (still or motion) good enough to give Adobe After Effects a run for it's money? Meaning, will PE2018 allow for creation, or does it have templates, of professional looking titles? 6) How does it auto generate music soundtracks? Can it auto generate sountracks to the exact length of the video? Or do I need to edit to a specific audio clip length? Does it work with third party sites or software to get music (i.e. how can I find more music choices)? Will it remix music that I import in? If there any webpage that explains how this all works? I'd like to understand how to get good music in the background of my videos. 7) Dialogue audio sync plugin? I understand that some 'high end editing software' may use Pluraleyes or some other plugin that will sync the audio of my video to clean, loud and clear audio taken from an external recorder so it matches up perfectly. Will Pluraleyes work with PE2018? Is there an easy and accurate way to do this? PS: I saw some of the features I asked about described briefly on the PE2018 product feature page. But my question is for more detail and whether I can get professional looking results rather than "home video" looking results. Thanks in advance, Ronald

Thanks for the Handbrake tip. I'm not sure it is helps but I used it to compress a short sample video clip and put it on Dropbox. Don't mind the focus, framing, etc.... this was just a short clip I had that really showed the stutter/jitter at between 20 to 28 seconds. See it here: Dropbox - Test Video Maybe I'm not using Handbrake to its full ability? PS: The video on my Nikon was shot at 1920x1080 at 23.97 frames per second I beleive.

Hi there, I spend a few days shooting some video clips on my Nikon DSLR and make the rookie mistake of using the shutter speed to control exposure (I know to leave it at 1/50, but hadn't shot video for a while) and now, after shooting at faster shutter speeds, my video look jittery. Not over jittery, but enough that I notice a jitter/flicker rather than smooth motion of pans or of people talking to the camera. I am using Premiere Elements 11. Is there any thing that can smooth out the video for me? I read about using motion blur to give the sharp jittery video a slight blurr, but my version of elements doesn't have that. Do the later versions have motion blurr and will it work 100% to make the video look good? Anyway, any advice on how to "fix it in post" is appreciated. If there are any third party apps or software that can help, please let me know. Ronald

Does your Lightroom do this to you? 😛 I just found an issue with LR (my perceived issue anyways) and I wonder if any of you knew about this or noticed the same thing. I've always noticed that sometimes when I export files from LR, that the color or luminosity changes if I open the same file in Photoshop...even if it was edited and finished in photoshop. Sometimes the white areas (255 per RGB channel) would be exported with decreased intentisity (droppig to 247 per channel). My process is I shoot in Adobe1998 and then import into Lightroom. And if I export it from LR it goes out as sRGB. If I edit in Photoshop, then it goes in there through LR as ProPhoto RGB and is saved in that color space in a PSD file, which then back to the LR catalogue. When I export the PSD from the LR catalogue it goes out as sRGB. WELL.... through some experiments and trials this morning, I discovered that the reason why my images that are finished in PS are coming out at decreased luminosity is that it seems that LR only lives in the sRGB color space. I assumed that it would convert the ProPhoto RGB in my PSD file *correctly* into the correct closest equivalents in sRGB. But the interpretation is not very good and I get a result that is somewhere in between viewing an sRGB and ProPhotoRGB image in the sRGB color space. This was easily corrected by convered the image in PS to sRGB at the end of finishing, or just keeping the image in sRGB when editiing in PS from LR. Or bumping up the white slider in Lightroom to compensate (but now you're just guessing when trying to match what you did in PS). But now the issue is, to convert PSD files to sRGB, PS wants to flatten my layers (I always try to keep my layers intact). And all my PS files in the LR catalogue since day one are in ProPhoto RGB. Question: what should I do/what would you do? Does the very latest LR version exhibit this issue? Does this exist in CaptureOne? It will be a pain to go and fix everything, probably save from PS, including images on my portfolio, etc... Your feedback is appreciated.
