Would anyone recommend this, Approx every 18 months I create a new blank Catalog, in a location and with a name of my choice. Into that catalog I import the contents of my current (single) catalog, leaving the images at their existing location. This gives Lr the opportunity to rebuild the catalog from scratch, reset indices and other internal database work spaces and lastly, leave behind any rubbish or orphaned objects, which may have built up over time.

no problem as of yet. But I have been told over the years that a very large catalog could slow things down. I was wondering if things had changed. In fact in a chat with an adobe tech today they told me to keep it at 1gb max.

So you keep your catalog and image files on different drives? or did i misunderstand. I always work on an external drive.

Hello community, I typically like to start my new LR cats on a new year. But my current catalog which is about 2 yrs old is at about 600mb. What is the max size for lr catalogs before things start slowing down? TKS! OS Sequoia 15.2 LR 14. 1.1

Hi, This might be a stupid question but is there a way to keep the same area zoomed in when switching images instead of jumping around? I know if you are moving to an image you haven't zoomed in on before that will work, but if you have it doesn't. TKS! Ventura 13.6.9 LR 13.5

Thanks to all for your suggestions. This job had already been shot. It was shot raw and bracketed. I was only looking to see what the best way is, currently given the state of PS, to bring back the windows in an aligned layered document.

Sorry everyone. Maybe I didn't explain my question. I know how to shoot this and have also been doing this many years. I do shoot in raw, tripod, bracketed, etc. My question was about any new techniques in POST, to blend the windows back in lightly.

This would be the reason it's suddenly taken hours to transfer files?

by copy over do you mean copy/paste? it does the same thing and takes the same amount of time. This just started happening.

Thanks Stephen. I renamed another batch of files and was able to find the orginal filename in there, even tho it did take a bit of searching. Is there a way to save this option being checked all the time (preserve filename?) And is there a way to enter the info of the person + contact info in the metadata that it will always be available in bridge and LR, and follow the file?

It would have been a sony raw file automatic name like '_DSC1234'. I'm afraid I lost it because of having to rename it twice. I will try again with the files from my canon camera.

I did just find what you were talking about.....And i just realized I did batch rename twice bc i had an error in the first one, and now I think it only preserved the last erroneously changed name.

That was my next question. Where do I find the original file name? I know you said File > File Info: Raw Data but where do I find that? My other semi related question is, where do you place information about the file such as the name and contact info for subject so you can see it in LR and when output as a jpg? Thanks so much for your help!

Hi, I've seen a lot of posts about preserving the original filename but I don't really understand them. I have my original raw files which I need to batch rename to my naming convention but I'd like to keep the original filename somewhere in the metadata. Is this possible? Has anyone had the finder start using a 'PS' symbol when moving files via the finder in a drag and drop method? This just started happening on my computer and always says the copying of files from a card to a hard drive say it's going to take a very long time. Like 10 hours. This must be a simple setting that I messed up. Ventura 13.6.7 PS 25.9.1

This is great information, thank you. Any advice on how to mark off a grid? especially for a tripod? How would you recommend ensure you are shooting straight up at the ceiling especially after having moved the tripod?

This may be a little off topic for the Photoshop Ecosystem, but, here goes. I have to photograph a ceiling mural along a long room. And yes the ceiling is vaulted in sections. How do you ensure your tripod is along the same area to stitch the images back together. What software do you use to stitch it and how do you avoid distortion if the ceilings are vaulted? thank you, DP Mac, PS 25.9.1

thanks Conrad! That was a lot of information to sift through but my takeaway is that we don't need to spend the extra money on the plus calibrator. I do have one more question. Since the technology has changed, can the new calibrators properly calibrate the old 2017ish iMac monitors? I guess the better question is are they equipped to handle everything out there?

Hi All, I am currently in the market for a new display calibration device because I upgraded to the new macbook pro, which has the new screen technology. In terms of Calibrite, the options are display pro and plus HL. The difference according to calibrite is the ability to 'calibrate HDR content'. Apparently this is a technololgy that is 'evolving'. I don't really understand why you would need to specifically calibrate for HDR content. Does anyone out there have any information or advice about that? I'm pretty tired of having to dish out money on these things. Thanks! Mac OS 13.6 LR 12.5 PS 24.7.0 Macbook Pro M2 Max

Wow. That was way more complicated than I expected. Mostly because when I deliver to clients I KNOW they will use these images for web/social media, but I suspect further on down the road they can easily be used for other things. But I would no longer be attached to those images. Sometimes on the fly, they are used for newspapers and other quick turnaround print. But everything is delivered in srgb. I currently calibrate with the Calibrite Color checker display pro and I believe I use d65. But I am about to go on a business trip where I need to work on the laptop and have accurate colors. What would you recommend?

Hi Everyone, I am writing about the macbook pro 'preset' options for it's display. I absolutely need color accuracy on my display and calibrate my monitor regularly. But now I found this 'preset' option under display on the new macbook pro (M2 Max). It definitely shifts the color a bit warmer when you enable it rather than having the default Apple xdr display option on. Is the 'photo' option worth having on? Or does is this preset like a filter? If that's the case should it be on while you calibrate just to marry the color profile to the preset? Any insight would be great. Thanks OS Ventura 13.5.1 PS 24.7.0 LR 12.5

Yes I know where they live but it's gone. Is there any way to change workflow so they live in the catalog? That way they would never be separated
