Question

Any way to disable the "Choose a topic" option on posts?

I just posted about a problem in Creative Cloud and had to choose a topic to proceed. The problem is that none of the topics had anything to do with my question, so I just picked one at random. So this forcing people to choose a topic will make it harder for people to answer my question, which is counter-productive.

Or at least can they add a few more topics or let us put in our own topics or something?

Depending on the forum you are in, topics are essential, as certain people follow certain topics only. For other fora it's less critical. Unfortunately, the system forces you to select a topic.

Then where does one make a suggestion that they get rid of them? I spent a great deal of time worrying where my post would end up-some forums are brutal and they will delete your post if it's not the right topic or tag. If they don't matter here,  as everyone  seems to agree they don't, how does one suggest they get rid of them?

Tags are part of the forum software, which is created by Khoros, a third party. Each board can decide which tags to use — some might use 4; others might use 15. I think you would have to go to each individual board to make the request, and in my personal opinion, it would be a lot of effort that would go nowhere.

Some boards have Discussions, Ideas, and Bugs in the forums. For others you would need to go to UserVoice for Ideas and Bugs. There is one board for an app that I use that I could never find an appropriate tag for, and it took me several years to get them to add a new tag, which they finally did — they call it "general".

Some boards have tags, but do not make them required.

Ok, Who is in charge of this board? Because you've got 3 community experts here saying tags are meaningless. So which ideas board or uservoice or whatever those things you said are do I have to go to? Like there's a forum option for ideas. Is that not the place to go to give ideas?

==========

That's fine.  Topic TAGS are not important.

I remember being told that there is a limit as to how many topics can be used. Each board gets to choose their own topics, and some to a better job than others. No, we cannot put in our own topics; I wish we could!

When a post is moved because it is in the wrong place, it will end up topic-less unless both forums have matching topics. "Windows" and "Desktop-Windows" are not identical and the topic will disappear when the thread is moved.

topics are annoying and, as far as i can tell, useless.  so just do what you did: pick one and forget it.

Topics are essential for some fora. And it's annoying, when users select all or irrelevant topics. It's, however, a feature that is not well understood, and topics are often ambiguous.

Many of us here don't even look at the topics and just check the forum for new posts that we haven't yet read.
