Slow, slow, slow (III) !

LEGEND ,
Mar 15, 2008 Mar 15, 2008
The thread with this name that was closed with no explanation did serve a useful purpose, so I am opening a new one to replace it.

Speed is back to normal now, and if there was a shutdown, I wasn't here to witness it.

after the fact, but there was a complete denial of service this morning on the east coast (NE PA) for about 20 minutes around 8:05am.

In the last few days it has progressively got slower after a long period of speediness.

Right now it is painfully slow.

(Also intermittently failing to show the correct number of messages.)

Absolutely no slowdown just up the road here - maybe yours is NFN, JJ ;)

[Normal for Norfolk, for those who don't know about the somewhat abusive abbreviations doctors allegedly use in patients' notes 😉 John's home area.]

We enjoy the NFN reputation. It means outsiders are always underestimating us. ;)

The slowness only happens for me with the adobeforums pages.

Other pages are loading instantly and 3rd party speed tests give consistent results of around 4600 Kbps for my connection.

Coincidentally, eBay seems to struggle at the same times the forums do.

I'm less than 14 miles north of Adobe's Forums server (which according to Flagfox 3.2.7 and Geotool is somewhere around 6th Street, just south of the Financial District in San Francisco, Latitude 37.7697, Longitude -122.3933) and that's just one or two dozen miles away from eBay's server in Campbell, California (Latitude 37.2803, Longitude -121.9567).

Yes, quite to he contrary, packet routing is designed to mitigate any geographic/topological problems.

Well, it was not because of the servers: both harddisks broke down so I had to replace and start anew. I am still in the process of recovering contents and settings.

Can anyone state the URLs of the New Forum Announcements, the Web Design, and the Lounge? I cannot find them through the Forum list.

I don't know about the others, Jacob, but the PS Lounge is invisible unless you're logged in. Then, you'll see links to it near the top of the PS mac & Windows main thread indices.

Thank you, Kath. This is what I had not recognized: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bc0fb97/

I keep an eye on it, and my mouth shut.

So now I have full forum access. Thank you again.
