Is there a way to change the directory where Illustrator gets its fonts? Right now Illustrator shows all my Windows fonts from the font folder, CC loaded fonts and then a bunch of other garbage fonts that I never use (im assuming these are from the Windows Fonts folder) I'd like to point Illustrator towards a pure graphics fonts folder without all the wierdo Windows fonts showing up in my selection within Illustrator - thank you!

I run into this all the time with a couple customers. They never convert fonts to curves and will not/can not send the fonts with the file. Same with images, they never send the linked images with the .pdf file. Is there a way to have the fonts converted to curves and the linked images embedded in the illustrator file when I open the .pdf in Illustrator? I use to open the .pdf in Acrobat Pro then flatten the image in there and select text to curves but I don't have Acrobat Pro anymore. Is there a process for photos and text to be opened from the ,pdf with linking to the images or the fonts? Thanks -

96x48 inches, actually I'll try reducing it. That's a good idea - that could be the problem since no one who uses Illustrator does anything larger than 8.5"x11" brochure layouts...(that's a joke for the developers, allow Illustrator to have a larger art board and the ability to deal with large layouts for artwork, seriously, I shouldn't have to reduce the artwork to 50% or even 25%, just pointless.) YEP...that did it, had to reduce it down to 10" wide instead of 96" - Thank you for that suggestion!

I apply 3D Extrude & Bevel to a shape and it creates a partial render. I've used this before with lots of success, great way to render 3D relief cuts for customers before it goes to ArtCam or Studio Max. Don't know why its doing this. Shape is combined as a compound path. Groups render the same way even after I expand. Thanks -

Had the same problem for a few weeks after I did the last update and leading up to the last update. Both my system and my wife's system had this same issue, hers was worse. Unfortunately it was based around the same problem, both our HD's were too full. OS and programs on the same HD, not enough unused room for .ai to operate without crashing. I bought 2 1TB SSD and dedicated Creative Suite to the new HD instead of putting CC on the same drive as Windows and increased the Scratch Disk for both .ai and .psd to the new larger drive with the software because it was the drive with the most space and its the fastest drive. Problem solved, it was very frustrating. I tried reinstall/updates, clean up the HD, uninstall unused software, etc. That bought me some room but the problem kept popping up every once in a while. The other system, kept crashing every other save.

If it causes issues I'll have to transfer the OS to the new drive, right now my 250GB SSD is WAY to full, I got a new 1TB SSD drive that I want to put all my software on and leave the OS on the C drive with plenty of breathing room Eric

Overprint use to be in Attributes - now attributes its bundled (sucks) in the Properties Menu. I'm not talking about Edit/Colors/Overprint Black, I'm talking about selecting an object and assigning Overprint to it. Use to be able to select both stroke and fill as an overprint option. Thanks much,

This happened several weeks ago, been kinda dealing with it and not finding a solution. There are new brush shapes/presets and they are grouped in sets called General - Dry Media - Wet Media - Special Effects So I don't know if these showed up in an update or they are showing up due to a new brush interface There are some really cool shapes and results that happen with these brushes, but when I pick the brush it goes to a specific tool like smudge and I want to use it as a brush or as a burn tool. Is there a way to unassign it or do I copy it and make it for a brush or universal assignment??

Is there any way to take an object that has been rotated and return it to a level state based on a reference point? I've got this shape I want to return to a flat or level angle. Other than visually rotating the object to look level, is there a more accurate way to do this? I want to go from this: To this: Can I anchor the rotation point on one corner and snap it to a guideline or something???

No CMYK digital printer can hit the colors you want. Its not the glossy paper or matte paper, CMYK is not able to print bright vibrant colors. Some digital printers now have green, orange and violet in addition to CMYK to help print really vibrant colors but unless the printer has those available to him(her) or her(him) its just not going to happen. Trying to coordinate that with a China printer is going to be difficult at best. John was right on, monitor and print can not be matched - with some colors, usually the really bright vibrant colors like the ones you want. Some printers, not the printer guy(girl) but the mechanical printer and inks in that printer can print some pretty vibrant colors but most do a poor job of hitting a really bright rich yellows or neon green or ultra violet. That's just the nature of the CMYK system, ink pigments, etc.

Paul, Yeah, clipping paths, clipping masks - I've even heard someone say compound masks. I think clipping mask and clipping path might be a connection because clipping mask & compound paths are stacked right next to each other in the object menu. I can see someone bastardizing that into a new term using the two. I also see new users creating clipping masks to fill shapes with solid colors, or trim gradient fills, basically use them in real sloppy ways. Over using clipping masks makes for messy files and sometimes printer RIP's can have issues with them. Use them only when needed.

If I use a blend or gradient I'd have to visualize the value across a blend instead of looking at a solid 2x2 or 4x4 swatch. I thought of taking a screen shot of the Illustrator color books and printing those, but the RGB screen shot wouldn't be an accurate translation of color. Just trying to avoid making 500 squares and manually filling them in with Pantone colors

Is there a way to load the color books into a printable format so you can print all the swatches from Illustrator. I want a color reference chart of what my printer and my Illustrator profile settings are doing to color when it prints. I'm sick of chasing colors around, if I had a full spectrum color chart with swatches I could look at the printed chart off the printer and at least be in the ballpark. Currently I manually make a couple dozen swatches with slight CMYK variations in them, print those, see what's close to the target color, then make more adjustments, etc. until I get something close. There is a new version of my RIP software that does this automatically, it'll make 20, 30 50 swatches close to your target color then you pick which CMYK formula looks the best to your target color. This new RIP software is very expensive, wondering if there is a script or way to print the color books from Illustrator.

Rama, PLEASE increase the canvas size. This is very annoying that Illustrator does not allow you to go beyond 227x227. I run into this restriction many times in our builds. CorelDraw has huge canvas sizes available, the user can type in whatever size art board they want. I do not understand why this is even a restriction, I would think this would be an easy option to add. Working 1:1 only makes for an easier workflow and less chance of a mistake...and when working on projects larger than 227" mistakes are extremely costly. On a totally unrelated note please add a dimension function to Illustrator so shop drawings can be dimensioned in Illustrator without having to use a 3rd party add-on

Sarah & Monika - thank you for bringing this up and reminding me. I have the same issue, the color pallet will revert to RGB sliders when I've been working in CMYK mode the whole time, very annoying. Especially when the color sliders change to RGB sliders and my colors end up coming out funky on the printer because the RIP is doing an RGB conversion instead of a 1:1 CMYK conversion. A solution on these two issues would be nice.
