That screenshot is from a Photoshop shortcut, so you can not do that in Illustrator. You can though use the flyout menu option. It is often greyed out so I never use as it is very picky.

On the mac you can with blob tool hold down option and zoom in and out with scroll wheel. Yes you must keep your strokes to the default of align center. You should also see if you can upgrade your lasercutter software, or if other vector file formats are preferred (SVG, pdf, dxf). AI8 is very old and you may run into other problems covering such as type shifts.

Try dragging the ruler origin to bottom left. First I would drag guides as the ruler origin does not snap, unless you have guides to snap to. Guides will snap to edge of artboard if you hold down shift.

For bitmapped images you can never have too many pixels, so reducing is not a problem. png is not a format for printing as it is meant for RGB. You should save your image as a CMYK .PSD and place that. Why this is becoming illegible nearly impossible to know why without more information. There might be some other reason such as many printers ask for a PDf file, and you might be using the wrong compression. Or maybe you send the .ai file to the printer and did not send the linked image.

Please when posting in future include your OS & software version. We can not really help you much without that we do not even know if you are on Mac or windows. If you take the time to post a question and include better information including screen shots, you will get a better response. How exactly are you installing the fonts into Illustrator, or using fontbook or the font control panel? What are the fonts, do you have any old or free ones that might be corrupting your font cache.

What Ilustrator and MacOS are you combining? What are the exact CMYK values for both your blacks, they should be the same. Check your appearance panel as you may have some effect on the new strokes, or an errant effect applies to the layer. Try a whole new document to see if this happens if you are not an expert with appearance being assigned to layers, groups, strokes, etc.

Is your M1 fast enough for you now. Certain things like 3D or lots of drop shadow effects are a good test. Apple was supposed to release a 32" screen iMac, but that may come next year instead. The 27" is no longer available >.<. I personally prefer one large screen than jumping screens and patching OS issues related to dual screens. So am waiting for next year. Try to make a group, then apply to the group level. I do that for example to a complex logo, when I need an outer glow on just the outside that would act as if the entire group was pathfinder merged and then effect applied.

There are many reasons, but you can narrow them down if you select the item, and show the appearance palette The item might have transparency set to multiply. You may have a fill at the group level or even layer level set to black. Copy and paste it to the side, does the red show?

Thanks for the reply, guess what I am asking for is not possible. I would be happy to just get red & white stripes that are not distorted like a zebra pattern, but straight or angled stripes like a candy cane.. Anyone else have any suggestions?

I added a material, but would like it to be on all the letters not just one of them (if I move it will go onto others but never on all the letters not distorted (I tried rotating) on sides only (think I can handle this with a duplicate on top and removing extrusion and material, wondering if a better way exists.

Are you on mac or windows. What technology is the font. If it is type 1 that is an old technology, go back to where you purchased, and download the upgrade.. OpenType, Variable Type and TrueType should work. If they do not you may need to flash your font cache. To help you we need more information such as what are you using to load your fonts. Screenshots are always helpful.

Try with Minion Pro. There are lots of programming mistakes on the programming of fonts for those features. These features have been around so many years but very few fonts have them programmed perfeclty.

That is the variable width tool, when you go over a point that has had the variable width modified. Shift W is the key command to switch to variable width tool incase you have trouble finding.
