Whatever Adobe says about fixing this problem is wrong. This is an ongoing problem as of today (01/08/2024). I am running the current version of CC. Every PDF I make contains embedded Microsoft fonts (Antigua, Times New Roman, Arial). Yes I am on a Windows platform but I am using Extensis font manager. None of these fonts exist in any of my docuents yet they always show up embedded in my PDFs. Why? This is causing confusion with my customers and service vendors. I cannot get rid of this annoying behavior.

This is not a single machine or monitor problem. I have the same issue on a new Dell with dual monitors. Happens intermittently on either or both screen. Running Xeon multicore with Intel Turbo Max Boost on Win 10 Pro for Workstations. However, everything worked fine until the infamous Windows upgrade to version 1809. Since then, a lot of issues with CC 2019 apps.

Thanks KR. This is a new machine with a clean install of CC 2019. It should work 'out of the box.' I have work to do. I can't keep screwing around with this stuff every other day. Rolling back workflows is not trivial. I am not paid to be an alpha or beta tester. Adobe needs to take responsibility for QA.

I have this same problem on two high-end Win 10 Pro workstations running CC 2019. I create a new PS file on the local drive. Edit it. Try to save it. I get this error about 50% of the time. "Could not save "filename" because the file is already in use or was left open by another application." If I keep hitting ctl-s (10 times or more) it may eventually save or I do Save As (this sometimes works). Or I have to save to a different name. Terrifically annoying. The only application that has a lock on this file is PS! This has nothing to do with networks, other users, storage paths, folder formats or icons or any other nonsense. It is a PS bug and has been there for the last several updates. You cannot fix your machine or your installation! It is a bug that Adobe needs to fix!

More on CC 2019 crashes. Every app crashes after purging all Adobe apps, Appdata, registry and folders and clean install. For the third time I have purged and reinstalled. This time I only installed CC 2018. Now everything works. There is something seriously wrong with CC 2019 that is not compatible with the recent MS upgrade of Win 10 Pro 1809.

This is a catastrophic problem on Win 10. MS rolled out a major system update this past week. Now Adobe CC 2019 does not work at all. All apps crash within seconds. I have followed all the recommended actions on this forum, including uninstalling the entire suite, purging app data and preferences, clearing the registry of all traces, resetting UAC, changing read write on Adobe folders, and and still with no resolution. I am missing deadlines as we speak. This is an f***ing disaster!!!! I have invested thousands of dollars and years of time to make Adobe a monopoly and now I pay the price!!! No support at all from anywhere!!!

Just updated AI and ID. Both now dropping the first letter of a new text insertion. Apparently a known bug in ID Win 10 and there is a fix on that forum. However, there is as yet no reported fix on AI. The behavior is identical to ID but AI does not have the same feature set in Preferences so what is the workaround?

After recent updates to InDesign and Illustrator CC 2018 I am finding that both apps are dropping the first keystroke on new text insertions. The first character has to be hit twice. This problem is not occurring on any other apps or the UI (Win10). I have tried wireless and wired keyboards and uninstalled and reinstalled both. No luck. Needless to say this is negatively impacting my ability to edit text. What the ...?

Now getting this error message every time I click 'edit original.' Clearly some sort of memory addressing problem. This is really getting old. I have 32 GB Ram! This only happens when using the right-click context menu. Now CC Bridge has started freezing and crashing.

Aman: I have uninstalled Font Fusion, ran ID for a few hours but did not experience any crashes. But I have had to reinstall it to keep working. As before, after a couple of hours it crashes again. This behavior is very specific to the right-click context menu in Windows. It does not occur if I single-click and choose edit original from the Link palette. I am also finding that ID is not routinely updating the proxy image when edits are made by this method or if linked sources are replaced. When that happens the source must be re-linked after edits are made and sometimes the layers seem to be confused in the proxy. Like hidden layers start showing up. I will have to keep working around this until something changes. Bruce

Thanks Aman. I did not send you fonts. I have been using Font Fusion for many years to manage fonts and am currently running the latest version (18.2.4.117) for Win. It is the only plugin I am using. Have there been any problems reported on this plugin? I may try installing the needed fonts in the system font folder and turning it off. Other than that I will have to uninstall CC and do a clean install. Bruce

Aman: More clues: I have been experimenting with different ways to work around this problem. I am now opening the Links tool palette, clicking on the named link, then clicking the 'edit original' button. The file opens in AI and this does not cause any crashes. Alternatively, I can open the linked file in AI, edit it and then update the link in ID without crashes. Bruce

Aman: Just sent you a link to Zip on Google Drive. All I do is right-click a linked AI file (Win 10). When the machine has been booted recently, I am able to choose 'edit original' and it opens the file in AI. After ID is running for a couple of hours, when I right-click, ID it freezes. 30-seconds later I get a Windows dialog saying that ID is not responding. Then 30-seconds later I get a Windows dialog saying that ID is closing. Then poof it's gone. I cannot record it since I don't know when it is going to happen. Bruce

Aman: I am attaching a zip folder with ID and AI files. When the computer is rebooted, there is no crash for a couple of hours when clicking 'Edit Original." Then after CC has been running for a few hours it starts crashing. Then I have to edit everything in its native app and update the links. This is happening with all my files, including new docs. Thanks Aman. As to problem files, it seems that any ID files and any AI files including newly created ones. The only thing that seems to fix it is rebooting (memory leaks?) but after a few hours it always returns. I have used CC for several years on Win 7 but never had this problem. I put in a new high-end Win 10 workstation, partly to keep current with Adobe Suite and other software that I use but its not working out well. I will put some samples together for you within the next day or so. Bruce

More clues. ID seems to be having problems updating embedded files from AI. When embedded files are edited directly in AI instead of using edit original, ID seems to be unable to update the proxy image or the link. In high-res preview, still shows the old version of the file or shows new version with hidden layers exposed. Clicking edit original causes ID to crash. Embedded images can only be updated by deleting them and re-placing them.

Here's a clue. The most recent crash occurred after the linked file had been edited directly in AI and not updated in ID. Layers were changed. It may also have something to do with changes made to the names of linked files outside of ID. When ID cannot find the original file or the linked file does not have the same layer structure as the original link it crashes instead of posting an error or update dialog.

I rebooted and have been running ID for four days. The crashing problem seems to have been resolved, however, now when a linked file opens in AI the Layers palette is revealed and flickers rapidly. Clicking inside the window seems to stop the flickering without side effects. Just a little distracting. I am working with local files. Many are client files that I have created using various upgrades of ID, AI and PS since 2003. The only CC plugin I am using is the current version of Suitcase Fusion (also used since 2003). The font library and collections were copied over from the old Win 7 machine. Fonts appear to be working fine.

Just installed CC 2017 on new Win 10 with 4.0 CPU, Graphics Accel and 32 GB ram. After CC apps are running for a few hours, clicking 'edit original' causes ID to freeze then crash. I have deleted the prefs. No affect. Restarting ID does not help. Only fix is to reboot. Had been running CC on Win 7 for several years. Never had this problem. Very annoying.

We'll then. Clearly not a Windows problem. I abandon Apple years ago so I can't provide explicit instructions but it appears to be a similar problem of file associations getting scrambled. Apple used to have a System folder that stored a lot of bits and pieces similar to the Windows Registry, but that was before they went to Unix. Still there is likely something similar at the user level. JPEG, however, is not a native Adobe file type. What happens if you double click on an Adobe native file? Does it open the correct Adobe app? Can you open the JPEGs from a generic bit-map editor or paint app?

Yes, the registry edit works but there is more to it. First I went from CS6 Creative Suite to CS6 Cloud. Then to CS 2014 and then again to CS CC (64-bit). All of these directories still exist for InDesign, Illustrator, PS, etc. but are empty except the CC 2014 versions yet all the registry keys point to CC (64-bit). I changed the open key to the only directory that actually contained a .exe and everything now works. You can check the path by looking at the targets in the Short Cuts. This is all pretty screwy. Not sure who is bugging it but it sure looks like Adobe.

Sorry Jeff. Nothing in that link seems relevant. Updating was working fine until the last time I updated the Cloud Desktop tool. I have tons of bandwidth and the only "code" in the error screen appears to be (49). So I uninstalled and reinstalled the CC tool. Now it seems to be working. But even though I just updated ID directly, CC tool it is updating it again. ??? So the Correct Answer would seem to be uninstall CC Desktop tool and reinstall it. The thing that is still unclear is whether both the CC and CC 64-bit updates are both needed to run 64-bit. In other words, the 64-bit app versions are dependent on the non-64-bit code base being updated first. That is, BOTH are REQUIRED on a 64-bit install. Please confirm.

I recently updated the Creative Cloud desktop tool. I am running CC Design suite on 64-bit. It keeps telling me that there are updates to my apps but when I click on Update all I get is this error message "try again or contact customer support." I am able to run updates from the apps themselves but the updates do not register with CC desktop tool. It just keeps saying there are updates. I am also puzzled that the CC desktop tool seems to be trying to update two versions of each app. One is simple labeled CC and the other CC 64-bit. When I look at control panel it only shows CC but when I run the app it says it is launching 64-bit. This is all a bit confusing.

This just happened to me after I updated Acrobat Pro 11.0.03 from the Cloud subscription. I produce dozens of publications everyday from predefined templates in ID 8.0.1. Now, all of my new PDFs are tainted with this embarassing green stink BUG. It is clearly related to EchoSign and some recent changes that Adobe has made to support it. None of my PDFs contain forms, form fields, certificates or signatures. So WTF! I wouldn't waste time trying to reinstall an older version either. Between the machivelian activation schemes and subscribing to the Cloud this is not a viable option. It would be easier to draw on paper and send out JPEGs. This problem must be fixed immediately by Adobe or they will no longer have customers for this stuff.
