I'm the OP. As the AI suggested, this has been an annoyance for many in Adobe apps for a while now. The text selection behaviours vary wildly between platforms, versions and apps, with no easy way to set a preference. On my system alone AI differs from PS in the way some fields (but not all) work in this regard. I suspect the fact this is not as easy an issue to put into words as some others may account for the lack of traffic on this topic, but the issue persists. Anyone with a solution, please chip in. 🙂

Dear ChatGPT: Tell me how to change the text select behaviour when clicking in fields in Photoshop. Currently, when I click on any field in the Photoshop interface all the text in that field is selected, which makes editing any part of the text in that field difficult because I have to click again to select only the text I want to change. Answer: This is a common annoyance in Photoshop’s interface — by default, clicking into a numeric/text input field (like opacity, font size, tracking, etc.) auto-selects all text in that field. To stop Photoshop from auto-selecting all the text when you click into a field, follow these steps... Needless to say, the steps advised do not work, in fact there seems no way to stop this "common annoyance" at all. Thanks try67 but ... so static Fields have names? Your idea seems to relate to dynamic text fields only. I can't see any way to target or rewrite text in a static text field.

Hi, I am struggling to find much in the way of useful video or document info on this topic. Even AI seems nonplussed. I just want to creat a form field for users to enter their name and then have that name used wherever I insert a variable name in the form's main text. I see InCopy can do this, but the method for Acrobat seems complex and involved. Any ideas/tutorials?

Agreed. So much Adobe kit has loose-ends and missing functionality. This doesn't seem to be due to commercial imperatives -compartmentalising creative software to ensure users buy more apps. Instead it seems more due to accumulated legacy issues, missed opportunities and the like. Illustrator, as someone here once told me with a rather sippy attitude, is not a document creation app, it's a graphics app (despite the fact that it's got PDF export, dozens of typography functions, and document formatting features approaching InDesign! 😆). I make all my PDF docs in Illustrator and I've found several work-arounds to transcribe them successfully into PDFs just as feature-laden and polished as anything made in InDesign or Acrobat. I think it's time Adobe got it's act together and overhauled the whole CC stable. I've been an Adobe user for 30 years and there are still unresolved problems with many CC apps that are almost that old.

I was in Chrome. Never considered that would be an issue. Thank you @kglad . Just tried in Safari and I get an extra footer. It doesn't help though. It's fine if you want to change to a different package but if you just want to change the way you subscribe to your existing plan, it's not easy. Despite the extra footer, there are no options available for changing the current plan to a different subscription model. BTW: I teach web dev now and I have to say what I say to my learners; if it's well-written , it just works. No reason to have browser-specific fails like this these days.

On the screen that should look like this : I see only this: Where the dropdown gives a full list of products, none of which are relevant to this task, and the current plan, highlighted by the border- that's my own current plan, which is good aside from the subscription type). No info is apparent regarding switching to an Educator's subscription.

That workflow no longer presents an option to change your plan to an educational one, rather it simply presents a list of Adobe products. Customer Service are very slow to respond (at least I'm still waiting). We may need an updated version of this process for 2023/4. This process should be far easier, so I have to question how motivated Adobe are to make it simple for users to switch to a cheaper subscription. I just went a little further in the process after finding the (not very obvious) option to alter my plan and can confirm that, even if you choose the option to switch to an educator's plan, the following stage gives no option to do so and no information as to why the expected option is not actually displayed or mentioned.

What is this- an ad for XD? 😏 Appreciate the helpfulness but Inner shadow in AI feels like a missing feature, resorting to raster really is not the point of AI, or this forum. Btw: if you don't have an airbrush, charcoal powder and a blusher brush can achieve a similar effect 😁

Came to this thread as it popped up first in Search for the topic of "Artefacts in Adobe PDF". Got to say, it's shocking how Adobe PDF leaves so much crap in the file that needs manual cleaning up. Sure, it may only show on laser printers and on screen in previews but if there's no way to be 100% sure your files won't mess up (especially when it comes to high-budget critical print jobs) then I'm sure I'm not the first to wonder why the software isn't better? Whether it's really necessary or not, I can manually remove so many empty boxes and stray objects from a PDF that I'm left unable to trust AI or Acrobat for important jobs.

I don't understand why this is the correct answer. Turning on Ray Tracing does NOT allow you to control the transparency of the shadow. There is no setting in the ray tracing dialogue that allows you to do that and, for me, ray tracing simply burs the shadow but does not fade it at all.

Anyone had this issue (probably a few years ago now)? You go to Preferences > Performance > Graphics Processor Settings in Photoshop 2021 and the option to use the graphics driver is greyed out, along with filters like Oil Paint, etc, because Apple dropped support for NVIDIA drivers. Having just updated my 2013 MBP to Catalina and my Photoshop to 2021 I'm disappointed to find Photoshop, and other processes, hampered by this. Is there a fix? BTW: CUDA drivers do not work for this issue, despite what some Apple Support staff tell you.

So I wrote another script. It reorders your replicated symbols so the bottom-most, right-most ones get sent to the the top of the pile. Might work well for isometric game art or just making a whole forest of random trees. Thing is- it needs testing. It could probably be made more efficient too. Any ideas, let me know. Hi, I used a free script a few years ago to make an isometric forest of randomised trees. Now i can't find the script. I had thought it was distributeStackedObjects.js but that does something else. Anyone recall the script that does this? It was great for reordering a lot of symbols on screen so those lower down the screen, or more to the right, would be brought to the top. This made it ideal for isometric work where overlap is critical to the perspective.

Thanks for the reply Monika and sorry for the late response. The driver was installed correctly and has behaved well until the install of AICC2021. Privilledges were always inherited during updates in the past so his problem did not occur with previous versions of AI, which did not throw an error. Wonder why this one is different? I'm still running Mojave so maybe this AI install is not supporting that when it comes to old drivers somehow?

Ah! I spent an embarrassingly long time staring at the code in your last post before realising that you were referring to my code! 😂 (I'm blaming the morphine 🙂) items[i].rotate(rotationAngle, rotationAngle); is now changed to items[i].rotate(rotationAngle); Script works the same. Duplicated parameter was legacy from script to resize symbols by width and height independently. Thanks

Yeah, sorry m1b, I really should spend more time reading (and working on this) before posting- been a bit distracted lately! 😅 Thank you so much for the excellent help, much appreciated. the unpainted circumcircle idea is intriguing, it would work well to counteract the way stroke profile/weight get calculated in to the overall width & height of the duplicated symbols but breaking the link to the duplicated symbols is not possible for me because of where I'm taking this project. Wish I could explain more here but this forum's public. NOTE: Custom line profiles, etc will change the way illustrator calulates teh width of each hex, leading to the need to adjust your math when positioning each hex in the initial group (assuming you're using Transform to duplicate them, then Expand Appearance to leave the many instances of the original symbols). Not fussed that AI 2021 isn't compatible with the last Cintiq 21UX driver produced by Wacom. I am more concerned that the way it failed to support the driver carried the issue over to the rest of the Mac. That's not a good outcome. Fortunately a restart and uninstall of AI 2021 will fix this. There's always AI 2019 to fall back on (unless you, daringly, choose to delete old app versions on updating). Currently my apps folder is littered with old Adobe app versions, eg- I keep Photoshop 2017 as it still runs older plugins I rely on, etc.
