We need more options for the zoom factors - jumping from 100% directly to 200% is too much of a zoom. Please add either much smaller increments or the option to manually type in the zoom factor!Dragging other work areas to adjust the composition preview size as a workaround doesn't work for me either.Gif shows the situation when working on a 5k 27" iMac (and zooming both via mouse wheel and the menu)
Dear adobe, please add a 75% zoom distance for the Magnificaition ratio popup. Goign from 50% to 100% is way too drastic of distance, so 75% is a nice sweet spot. Thank you.
Like in Photoshop, be able to manually set the zoom size. Is very annoying to reset window sizes to achieve this.
Instead of jumping in intervals when zooming, I'd very much prefer a smooth means of zooming to go along with the smooth panning we have. Its one of the experience pleasantries I have with other apps and wish it were in AE as well. Its nice for when dealing with details. Roto, checking key edges, etc.
Would there be any chance that the team could implement scrubby zoom for the composition and timeline panels in AE?It would make using them far easier when using a Wacom tablet.
I'm using a project that makes heavy use of expressions. Even though I'm not applying any particular effects or processing, the performance becomes very slow when I go to the upper hierarchy levels. I'm attaching the project file. The compositions become progressively slower in this order: "ALL" → "ALL_Filter" → "ALL_SplitCut".This appears to be a bug report or support request describing performance issues with nested compositions in an After Effects project that uses many expressions. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8k7hn749yq7zhnr27u28t/very-heavy-project.aep?rlkey=0fiyomjdzubpwe9cos2h5dfby&dl=0
For effects like Lens Blur or Gaussian Blur, Ae provides the ability to activate 'Repeat Edge Pixels', to let the effect go 'over the edge' in stead of regarding the edge as part of the art.We need this for Layer Styles too. E.g. an Inner Glow should respect the shape of a Layer, even when it is animated off screen. Compare the two images' left lower corner. When the circle is animated off screen, Layer Styles are applied to the visible part of the circle intersected with the Comp edges, where it needs to be applied to the circle.* Left: current situation (see left lower corner) / Right: the way we (I) would like it *I know this has to do with render order in After Effects, but still it needs a solution like 'Repeat Edge Pixels'.
In Adobe After Effects, if the Firefly option is available on the layer, then after applying any new layer, an image can be created from text or any shape etc. so that it can be used without jumping to the Firefly app, this needs to be considered. Thanks Title edited by Mod.
Often, I'm switching between the Value Graph and the Speed graph, and it feels weird not to have an option to switch between them via shortcut or scripting. Most (if not all) settings in the Graph Editor don't have native shortcut options. Why?
Hi Adobe Team,When importing layered PSD files into After Effects, I've noticed that Photoshop clipping masks are not preserved. Instead, the clipped layers come in as normal layers without their clipped behavior.Currently, the workaround is to manually recreate the clipping mask using the Alpha Matte system, placing the clipping mask layer below and setting the top layer to Alpha Matte. While this works, it becomes time-consuming when working with complex PSDs that contain many clipping masks, as we need to manually adjust every pair.Feature Suggestion:It would be extremely helpful if clipping masks in Photoshop could be automatically translated into Alpha Mattes or pre-set matte relationships in After Effects upon import, especially when importing as Composition (Retain Layer Sizes). This would greatly improve workflow for motion designers and editors who rely heavily on Photoshop-to-AE integration. Thanks for considering, and I hope this could be improved in a future update!
Can we have a way of toggling a layer as 3D without it jumping to where AE thinks it should be, and just staying in place. I'm personally sick of using scripts or complicated workflows to do something that could be quite easy
Glad to see "Reveal Project in the File System" added to AE. I tested this feature in the Beta in April. It is missing a command in the Keyboard Shortcut editor. Please, please add it to KSE so we can set a custom keyboard shortcut. Why? 1. Project panel is not always visible in user workspace2. One tap on keyboard instead of 2 mouse-clicks Thank you! 🙏
It'd be very useful to know exactly where a mask ends once you start playing with its feather value. And since there's already a dotted line that shows up when using the feather pen tool, perhaps that same one can appear when modifying the regular feather value? This would be great to avoid "ghost elements" left by mistake when animating out of a mask, by failing to reach the absolute end of the feather gradient (I keep adding a black solid underneath and ramping up the preview exposure just to check if all elements are out of the mask's feather range!) Incidentally, here's a secondary request... How about an editable feather value for shape layers? Adding "Fast box blur" to achieve this seems like extra calculations that could be easily avoided...
After Effects currently allows running scripts at Startup and Shutdown, but there is no way to automatically run a script when saving a project. If this were possible, it would greatly expand automation possibilities, for example:Before saving: validate the project (e.g., detect missing footage, enforce naming conventions)After saving: write logs or export metadata for pipeline integration(This would work like a Git pre-commit hook, but for After Effects projects.)I fully understand that executing scripts at such a critical timing carriesimplementation risks and potential stability issues. However, for large studios and power users, this feature could be extremely usefulto maintain clean, pipeline-ready projects and reduce manual steps. Thanks!
I often have layers that have very long names from the sources, and/or comments for the layer that can be very long, and I am constantly resizing the width of the name and comment columns between being able to see the long text and being able to see more of the timeline. It would be great to have a tooltip appear when hovering over a column that has text hidden due to being so small; in fact, since this is such a common UI behavior, I was very surprised this does not already happen. It's a small change but would be surprisingly helpful. Thanks!
Dear Adobe would it be possible for ae to remember recent open/save dialog settings per project? our usual workflow involves switching between different projects, each in its folder and when you try to render, save project or open new project ae opens the file dialog with the last open directory which causes a lot of chaos when people are in a hurry and renders get saved to different project render folders, project files get saved to different folders than intended because of this.If each project had some way to remember its recent file dialog paths it would help a lot.
What the title says. Sometimes I have shape layers in a precomp and I want them to be nice and sharp, and also don't want it to completely destroy the layout work I've done when working in 3d. This is just an example - I'm not looking for a workaround for this specific point.
The camera tracker is a little long in the tooth, and there are three big improvements I would suggest: 1) the ability to use an alpha/mask so it doesn't consider parts of the image when tracking (perhaps this exists, I've just yet to find out how to do it);2) the ability to, after a track, automatically reject/delete points based on their error (i.e. all points above a tracking error of 1 (or whatever is chosen) are deleted across the entire track;3) A button so that the camera only re-solves on command rather than every time tracking points are deleted, so points can be deleted across the entire track without having to wait for the solve every time.
I really struggle to see keyframes under this grey highlight. All we really need is the blue line, not the grey outline that's nearly the same colour as the keyframes underneath
In the modern world of apps like Figma etc, it would be good if After Effects could do a few 'smart' things in the timeline panel:1 - 'pin layers' in place - e.g. if I have some guide layers, it'd be good to pin these to the top of the stack. like lock and pin - just a timesaver.2 - built-in 'type commands' - i.e. the functionality of 'FX console' or Mo Bars feature when you can type 'fill' and a fill is added (and more)
Hello powers that be! Maybe this is just a minor request, but since I use the "scale composition" script all the time (and it's been around since forever), it would be great to have that panel be a part of the (ctrl+k) "composition settings" window. A "scale composition" button could live there by the height and width values, and launch the script from there. Or be fully included in the "Advanced" tab. This approach can save a lot of clicks, compared to the current "run script" way. Thanks! [Moderator note: moved from discussions to ideas)
I upgraded my laptop 4 months ago thinking I could do all my school work in photoshop and after effects, only learn I can't even install after effects on the copilot laptops! I feel like it's been a while since the snapdragon processor has been released, it's used by microsoft, acer, asus, lenovo and more. After effects should be download-able by now
Hi, Essential Graphics Panel lacks the ability to select multiple properties and move them all at the same time. This will save a lot of time when moving properties into groups, now each property needs to be moved separately
When you enable or disable motion blur on a layer, AE now turns on/off the motion blur switch for the comp, which is great. But when you paste in layers from another comp, the switch isn't enabled, so it's easy to miss it. Could you add a feature where AE will detect if the layers you're pasting have motion blur enabled, and it will ask you if you want to enable it (or at least inform you about it)? Or maybe have a checkbox in preferences to automatically enable it when pasting? That'd be super handy. Thx.
In the same way that expression pickwhipping to a property will result in an expression like this: thisComp.layer("My Layer").transform.opacity I'd love to be able to drag the pickwhip onto a specific keyframe to get the following result: thisComp.layer("My Layer").transform.opacity.key(1)
