P: Completely broken Hand tool (PS24.5) Hand Tool Sticking, sticky, not seeing mouse-up

This is a bug. Please don't move it to the Discussions tab.

And please don't merge into another unrelated thread. I will report a bug with this thread.

------------------------------------

I made a YouTube video using a keyboard mouse overlay to show what action I'm taking. I hope you can refer to refer to it.

https://youtu.be/Cle6dEgP5_Y

------------------------------------

I was disappointed that there were so many bugs that were not fixed in 24.5, but I was still trying to give it a shot.

However, this bug is pretty serious. Really...

Please see the video I attached.
If you watch the video, you will see that I am shaking the screen.
I'm not using a hand tool, it should release automatically, but that thing is sticky.

To release this sticky, pinned handtool, you'll need to make one more unconditional click.

Here's how I've organized them for your reference.

< What I can be sure of >

  1. Window10 (Tested a total of 14 PCs)
  2. Use WacomTablet
  3. Not related to preferences at all (Especially not related to Spring loaded, Flick panning stuff things)
  4. I've tried all the known Photoshop troubleshooting methods and no improvement.
  5. Even reinstalling Windows does the same thing
  6. Only in 24.5 does this bug occur with certainty. I can't reproduce it at all in earlier versions.

I'm not sure about the >

  1. Mac OS not tested
  2. I couldn't even test if it was a GPU company difference. I and my team all use NVIDIA

And while there are a few threads pointing this out, there doesn't seem to be a proper plan to fix it.

If this is not fixed in 24.6, 24.6 will be equally unusable as 24.5.

What the heck?

I was using Photoshop 24.2.0 without any problems.

Today I updated from Lightroom Classic 12.5 the newest Version of Lightroom Classic (13.2) and got the issue with the sticky handtool in PHOTOSHOP, without updating the 24.2.0 version!?

So I downgraded Lightroom to the recent installed Version 12.5, tested Photoshop (still 24.2.0)... and the bug is gone!

That convinces me, it's an Adobe comprehensive ecosystem problem with th drivers, which are used for Photoshop and Lightroom as well.

SO WEIRD!

I want many people to test the beta version.
I'm willing to test the beta too, but I'm so behind in work right now.
I'm looking forward to your reviews.

@CJButler seems a couple of beta users are seeing an improvement. For the technically-minded, can you summarise (at a high level) what the code change(s) is that might have cured this?

Awesome. Sounds promising! Again, addressing this should be top priority.  If there is a fix in the latest Beta then fast-track a patch!

I've been using the latest betas for weeks now — ever since the release of 25.5, because that version is unusable — and I haven't been experiencing any "sticking" issues so far.

With quick testing the sticky mouse button problem doesn't seem to occur in the latest Beta version. Awesome!

@CJButler That's good to hear there's progress being made. I'm not on beta but look forward to the next release.

The pressure sensitivity thing is (if you're using Wacom) is a services thing, a restart of the Wacom service and away it goes again.

One thing I have noticed though (only noticed it the other day), and this only applies when using either my 24" Cintiq Pro (home, desktop) or my Intuos 5 Medium (work, laptop, different driver versions between both), the mouse works fine (albiet with a bit of lag) is altering points on a curves adjustment layer. It won't do it with the Wacom devices, move point, nada, doesn't even show, move the cursor off the properties panel and the point appears on the curve and is moveable but I have to do this for every point on there which isn't ideal.

We think weve made some progress on this bug.

I have made some code changes which are reflected in the current Beta builds, m.2528 or higher, and will be avaialble upcoming 25.6 release. I am hoping these changes will offer some relief for Mouse users. There is more work to be done with Pen devices which will unfortunately have to wait until a later release (hopefully 25.7).

For those of you who have access to the latest beta (check your build number), if you can try things out and report back, that would be appreciated. The bug is still really hard for us to reproduce, so if you can still reproduce the bug, I definitely would like to know and I would like to collect Event Log files.

@DanielAllen No it's photoshop problem. This may be related to tablet, but I don't think it is. Because I made this thread last year, when I reinstalled OS on multiple PCs and installed only Photoshop without connecting or installing wacom, I was able to reproduce this bug with my mouse.

I was replying to the person who said that the pressure sensitivity on the
tablet stopped working, not the topic of this thread. I'm well aware this
thread's topic is an PS issue. Apologies to those who may have been
confused by my reply.
