P: Program error when saving, lag when zooming, changes not reflecting in document window (macOS)

Since the 22.1 update, MAJOR bugs:

- ‘could not save because of a program error’ when saving, work around: hiding a few layers or folders.

- major lag when zooming in

- actions and changes delay in showing, to the point where they never show up - once I close the document and quit Photoshop and go back in the changes are  visible.

what’s going on??

I'm facing the same issue. Last week an Adobe Consultant helped me and fixed my the problem. But today I'm back at the same problem: Program error when saving.

I'm tired of following instructions of technical support, that is their job, but in the end, they suggest we use the version 21.2.4 that is working just fine.

I have spent a long time trying to overcome this issue - I have tried:

1. quitting Photoshop

2. resetting preferences to default

3. hiding all the layers except the background layer then saving, which works but is no good as I need to then save the file in a different format which is won't do

4. the generator is not enabled as someone suggested that

5. I have also tried with the graphics processor on and off - someone suggested that.

Please help.

@JeffreyTranberry How do we deal with the fact that photoshop is having a lot of problems lately and prices have gone up?

I have a problem with saving files in photoshop 2021. When saving, a message appears - " program error occurred". Restarting the program did not help either. In the previous version there are no such errors, but I cannot use the new version.
I use iMac 21.5 inch. 2017.

I work with a large file 100MB and every time I try to change something inside a smart object and then save my changes, Photoshop appears a window saying "could not complete your request because of a program error." This same message appears in a lot of situations such as opening a second file, making a smart object etc. Please help! it's the 3rd day and the issue continues! I can't save my work!

P.S my software is MacOS Big Sur 11.1

@JeffreyTranberry Hi there - 20 days since this issue has been raised - with no fix deployed ? sounds crazy long for a "major issue" - not being able to save his job is at least major, isn't it ?

@JeffreyTranberry

I am on the latest version of windows 10. I am sporadically encountering a problem that causes me to not be able to save my psd files.

Something along the lines of if I copy the background layer and then move it in front of a couple other layers followed by cropping it, it sometimes causes glitches in what is seen on screen and then if I try to save I get the ”could not save because of a program error”

I can get around the problem by hiding all layers and saving. Then if I close the psd file and open it again everything goes back to normal and I can work.

Sorry if its a bit vague since it only happens sporadically and in the time between I can work just fine. Just thought I would add it to the list.

I have tried the workarounds but it still happens. Considering reverting to previous PS build

Hoping for a patch soon. 🙂

It's not just on a Mac. I have the same issues on Windows 10.

All I had to do was switch the mode to 16bit/channel. Unless there is a reason you absolutely need 8bit/channel then try this out. I had all of the exact same issues and they all went away with 16bit/channel. It's probably a BigSur thing.

Also having these issues.

I cannot save anything and to be honest I am unwilling to go back and download photoshop 2020. Im a professional user and keep my photoshop up to date for a reason.

when will this be rectified?
