After updating to the latest version of Photoshop, now when I try to use Sky Replacement it keeps going into a Program Error: "Could not complete your request because of a program error".

Have you tried the 23.0 update that was released today?

Hello, I am running 22.5.1 on my Imac running Big Sur, and am here to tell you it has not been fixed. I have tried launching this numerous times, and still no success. I have tried with disabling the graphic processor and enabled. No difference. In fact, when launching the Sky replacement, it doesn't even give me the dialog box to have me choose a replacement sky. It automatically applies one, and then freezes the whol application. I have to "force-quit" the app every time, thereby losing my work. Any updates or other items I can try? Thanks

Hi all,

We're happy to announce the release of Photoshop 22.5.1 which includes the fix for this issue. Check the list of other fixed issues here

To update Photoshop to 22.5.1, click "Update" in the Creative Cloud desktop app next to Photoshop. More detailed instructions for updating

Please feel free to share your feedback with us.

Thanks,

Mohit

Hi there,
After the update to 22.5(Windows german Version), the function replace sky no longer works. I get the error message: "The process could not be carried out because a program error has occurred". After that, I have to close Photoshop via Task Manager because the application has stopped responding.

Thanks for reporting. Engineering is readying a fix for an update. Stay tuned. We'll update this thread when the fix becomes available.

I just used the sky replacement option on some drone shots a few days ago.

Then I tried today with my normal process - Import into lightroom, combine photos in HDR, then edit in photoshop, then sky replacement. When I click sky replacement it pops up with the alert       "Could not complete request due to program error" and it won't even open the sky replacement box. Both Photoshop and lightroom are up to date, I've tried restarting the programs as well as computer but I'm still getting the error code.

I can't even find a forum for this so I'm not sure what to do.

Luego de la última actualización (agosto 2021), con las nuevas características de la herramienta "reemplazo de cielos", con cada intento de utilizarla recibo el mensaje "Could not complete your request because of a program error".

Hi,

We're sorry about the trouble with Photoshop 22.5 due to the Program error. Please try some of the other steps suggested here: https://adobe.ly/2JZDqZB

If the issue persists, please run the Diagnostic plug-in mentioned in the article shared above & paste the result here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/program-error-diagnostic-plugin-feedback/td-p/11793716

You can roll back to the previous version of Photoshop (22.3 or prior) using the steps suggested here: https://adobe.ly/2wH0JjE

Please uninstall the latest version of Photoshop first & select the option to Keep Preferences prior to installing the previous version.

Regards,

Nikunj

I am currently using v. 24.5 on Windows 10.

Starting with v. 24.4.3 and now 24.5 when I attempt to use Select>Sky I get the following pop-up:

Could not complete the Sky command because of a program error.

After running the diagnostic tool I get the following:

Photoshop Error information

Code: -1

Text: because of a program error

Message: Could not complete your request because of a program error.

I found the fix! Revert back to Photoshop 22.4.3 and it will work like a charm.

I did that by going to Creative Cloud and selecting the three dots to the right of the Open button on the Photoshop line, then clicking Other Versions and installing the version above.

If you have auto-updates on, you'll also want to turn that off.

Good luck!

@Sage5C11 Thanks for letting us know a rollback worked for you. Glad you found a solution and hopefully you'll be able to update to 22.5 without these problems soon.

To both @defaultw5xvlvy1d2j0 and @Sage5C11 I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble! I'm on Windows 10 Pro running v22.50 and not experiencing any problems so far. I ran the Sky Replacement tool through a fairly rigorous test after another user had a problem here: Re: Sky Replacement in Photoshop - Adobe Support Community - 12335926.

I also provided a test image which you are welcome to try. Click on the blue download icon in the lower right hand corner.

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem/sky-replacement-in-photoshop/m-p/12337783?attachment-id=80404#M577037

Can you tell us at what point in the process you are getting that error message? Is it while you are flipping through the previews of different skies? Or when you try to save the layer group? Is there anything unique about the original image file? Do you get the error on any file where you try to replace the sky (including my test file)? What other troubleshooting steps have you tried? Did resetting your preferences as @Ged_Traynor suggested make any difference? Let us know how it goes!

The issue happens as soon as I select Edit/Sky Replacement.

However, I just reverted back to Photoshop 22.4.3 and it will work like a charm.

I'll just use the older version until the new version doesn't cause this feature to crash.

Thanks for your help! ❤️
