New to DITA. Investigating structured framemaker to see if it's something we should pursue at my company. We are on framemaker 2017.I've created a few sample chapters in DITA and have saved these as PDF, which is the main format we'll be targeting. But I'm having trouble wrapping my head around how to export a dita book that mirrors the look and feel of the technical manuals we currently produce in unstructured framemaker. Can someone point me in the direction of resources/tutorials on how I'd go about doing this?
Adobe Postulates on the FM 2019 product page: “Interactive HTML5 dialogs for plug-ins Make the customer experience richer by using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript to make interactive plug-in dialog boxes.”Now that I need to create a few dialog boxes (panels?), I‘d like to have a look at the requirements, limitations, and resources. Where can I find them?
HelloI am trying to change the standard logo of the azure blue html 5 design to a different icon. I can select my png file, but FM will not change it. Logo.png will remain.I am using FM 2019 with latest patches.Any idea?Andreas
I have a project I'm still maintaining in Frame 12, producing CHM files as the output using the Publish command.I find that any thin space in my Frame source is getting rendered as an ordinary space in the Help viewer. Is this a limitation of that old Microsoft HTML Help Viewer not rendering thin spaces properly? Or is Frame not bothering to write   entities in its HTML output? And if so, how do I make it do that? (I don't see anything obvious in the Publish settings).
In the body text of one document I refer to a figure on the same page, using language something like this: See Figure 10 below. However, I don't want to enter the figure number in the body text because the actual number might change in the future. So it makes sense to use a variable for the number. Normally I'd use a cross reference for this, but that would make the variable a clickable link. Since the image is on the same page, I don't need (or want) the variable to be clickable. I just want the number to update automagically. Is there a way to accomplish this in Frame? Thanks!
I upgraded to a new windows 10 laptop. I have Framemaker 13 installed. When I attempt to navigate within a document, the program freezes and can be unresponsive for 20 minutes or more. There is almost no CPU usage when it is not responding, though my laptop fan goes into high gear when FrameMaker freezes. It is basically unusable and I am at a standstill. FrameMaker worked fine on my older 6 year old laptop.I've tried hiding graphics, renaming the preferences folder, installed all updates. Please give me some ideas.
I am trying to publish a structured FM file using the Basic HTML output. I keep getting the following error:"Output Basic HTML contains and absolute path for publishing. Change to a relative path to continue."I have tried publishing it to my desktop, to my hard drive, to a network folder with no change.Any help would be appreciated.
Hi,I have got a structured FM file which is exported from dita topic and has exactly the same structure as of dita-topic. When I query (FrameMaker 2017 & 2019.)IntT isXmlWellFormed = F_ApiGetInt(FV_SessionId, document_Id, FP_XmlWellFormed);I expect to get zero but I got 2 (FV_XML_WELLFORMED_NO).As per my understanding of the FDK documentation* '0' means it's a FM file and * FV_XML_WELLFORMED_YES/FV_XML_WELLFORMED_NO mean it's a xml file.Is it a bug with FrameMaker or am I missing anything here? Thanks,Paresh
I'm attempting to update my book and save as PDFs.When attempting to Update a book or "Save as PDF" I get the error messages below:When Saving as PDF:When Updating Book:I get an error report, but also the windows prompt error, and FM randomly creates separate TOC/LOF/LOT files unstructured. This just started happening, I have no idea what causes this. I've tried updating Framemaker, restarting, and googling this issue, but no information is found. I am working with Adobe Framemaker 2015, version 13.0.5.547. If anyone is familiar with this issue, help would be greatly appreciated as this prevents me from getting any work done. Thank you!
I am using FM2019, can someone tell me how to use Cross-References so they would work in DITA Topics and DITA Map.As we know that normal FM cross-references do not work in DITA.I have two topic files, each file has one cross-reference which points to an image (inside Figure element).DITA MAP (of two Topic Files) output in PDF: Figures are updated but cross-references are not updated and not working. 1
I am unable to either print a FrameMaker 2017 book or save as PDF. Can I get some help? URGENT!
Hi,* My Alert preferences show all messages* This is a standalone file (not in a Book)* My Reference Page defines my Heading1MTOC and Heading2MTOC the same (tab stop setting of 4.7R):<image001.png> But in the Body View, even after clicking Update MiniTOC, it doesn’t display correctly: The MiniTOC displays correctly when I slightly move the right-justified tab stop any amount in either direction. (I thought there was an extra tab character, but there isn't; I also experimented with adding 1 more tab stop closer to the left): <image003.png> But when I click the Save button, that tab stop change is lost and the MiniTOC reverts to the earlier screenshot. Please let me know if you have any ideas what I’m doing wrong or what I need to adjust to make my MiniTOC display properly. Thanks,GuyP.S. I now have a 2nd file with the same issue, and in the MiniTOC, the tab symbols appear to the
I have Framemaker 15, which was working fine so long. I run it via VMWare. When I do a File-Save as PDF and give a file name and click ok, it seems that it is creating a pdf file but then I cant find it anywhere. I dont get any error while creating it.In the File explorer I do see that file in the Recent files list. When I try to open it, I get an error that the file does not exist. Its weird. But has anyone come across such an error?
Hi! I noticed a new section in the ini file from the last time I updated FM 2019. I would love to use it to include a revision history page in my generated books. Is there any guidance on how to do so?Thanks! For reference:[BookWithFM-FrontMatter]Template=RevisionHistoryTpl.fm < - I ADDED THIS TEMPLATE FILEChapterNumbering=Restart;ChapterNumberingFirst=Restart|Continue|ReadFromFile|UseSameChapterNumberingValue=1ChapterNumberingText=ChapterNumberingFormat=Numeric;ChapterNumberingFormat=Numeric|Roman_UC|Roman_LC|Alpha_UC|Alpha_LC|Kanji|Zenkaku|Zenkaku_UC|Zenkaku_LC|Kanji_Kazu|Daiji|Text|FullWidth|FullWidth_UC|FullWidth_LC|Chinese_NumericPageNumbering=Continue;PageNumbering=Restart|Continue|ReadFromFilePageNumberingValue=1PageNumberingFormat=Numeric;PageNumberingFormat=Numeric|Roman_UC|Roman_LC|Alpha_UC|Alpha_LC|Kanji|Zenkaku|Zenkaku_UC|Zenkaku_LC|Kanji_Kazu|Daiji|FullWidth|FullWidth_UC|FullWidth_LC|Chinese_NumericPagination=SingleSided;Pagination=DoubleSided|SingleSided PageRounding=De
Do I get any upgrades if I buy Framemaker 2019 for $999?
HiI was checking my answer to another question in this forum about table properties when I discovered that my recollection of how certain properties worked was faulty. This has revealed an omission in our EDD which I'd like to rectify, but the reference guide hasn't got enough detail to help me.Our table schema allows for cell align and valign attributes to be specified at any level (th, tb, tf, tr, td) and inherited by descendant elements. Thus the text alignment of a table cell will be governed by the cell's align attribute/property, if that is omitted then it will use the row's align property, if that is omitted it will use the th/tb/tf align property, and so forth. The reference guide notes that the align and valign attributes are automatically translated by Framemaker without needing to be specified in read/write rules, but it also notes that when tables are displayed in the document view the cells are not aligned automatically; "you must write format rules to use these attributes
How do I modify NoName to make is WDMS_1261728_003?It will not allow me to edit From the Structure View --Can I modify it From the Elements Tab..?
Is there a source document for the list of FrameMaker structured elements? fm.mov fm.icy fm.description (attachStoreShipPartCodeRef) etc. Most are self-explanatory, but I like to understand the context in which they are used, which data modules, etc. Is there a source document somewhere?
I have been trying to use Save-as PDF from the File menu in FrameMaker 2019 but the File\Publish settings seem to be overriding the folder selection I make in Save-as PDF. My PDF are being saved to a different folder that I set up during Save-as. I am creating PDFs for a number of different .book files want each one saved into the folder that contains the l.fm and .book file. I never had this issue with Previous version of FrameMaker. Is this a BUG or been reported by anyone else?
I have FrameMaker 11 and need to upgrade to FM 15. The download page is asking for a serial number which is available from my account but I have long since forgotten my password and no longer use the associated email address. How can I get the SN so I can purchase an upgrade?
Hello everyone! Please help me understand what I need to do if I want ... tables of the same type in my XML document keep different column widths.1) I use FM 2017 and have a book with XML files, so I use a DTD and EDD files to design my document.2) I added to EDD a new type of table and updated DTD. 3) As a result, I can add this new table in a document, but I cannot save widths of columns. If I close the document and reopen it, the widths of columns have default settings which I set in structure template for Table format. I cannot predict what column widths I will need for future tables, so I would like to be able to adjust the width of the columns for each individual table and save these settings after closing the document. How can I do it? Is it possible?
Using FrameMaker 2017Step 1. From FILE->NEW->BOOKStep 2. Using the STRUCTURE pulldown menu, validate the .bookError: Element ValidationElement: NoName is undefined. From the Structural Development Ref pg 178/262 I have to add RootElement as highest element.Modified the Element Definitions Document to create a RootElement as highest element. Now it tells me I need to edit the "Conversion Table"?What is the easiest solution to this?
Hello,I'm pretty sure that my question is related to Master pages. I'm trying to set things up so that my back cover appears on the right page and a blank page appears on the left. Currently, I'b getting the opposite, my back cover on the left side and followed by a blank page on the right side.I've been playing with master page usage and also tried creating a Custom Master page but so far, nothing changes my layout. Thank you in advance.
