FrameMaker

I downloaded the trial edition of FrameMaker 2019 onto two different computers (with two different valid FrameMaker subscriptions) to upgrade the accounts from 2017 to 2019. On the first computer, everything works fine (Laptop, Windows 10 Pro, i7), but on the other computer (Desktop, Windows 10 Home, i7) it won't open past the splash screen. It makes it all the way to "Password" on the splash screen, then crashes. What can I do to get the trial to open so I can upgrade the account?

I just upgraded FrameMaker 2019 64-bit to 15.0.1.430 (from Nov 1, 2018), but I still get inconsistent performance when printing a FM doc file to .pdf - occasionally, the FM Doc File Info (Author, Title, Subject, Keywords, Copyright, etc.) doesn't get imported into the generated .pdf file, and I have to manually enter the FM Doc File information under the .pdf file's File > Properties > Document Properties > Description tab. Alternately, if I Save As.pdf instead of Printing the FM Doc file to .pdf, the FM Doc File Info imports fine. Has anyone else noticed this? Thanks in advance.   

I am not sure if the orginal source doc was prepared using Frame, but that's where I would like to end up. What I've tried so far:Trying to import the file directly from the PDF into Frame -  only allows importing one page at a time. Is there a setting I can change?Exporting the PDF as RTF, and then importing the RTF file into Frame -  results in a crash.Converting the PDF into Word, and then importing the Word file into Frame - still doesn't hold on to its styles.I have the Tech Comm suite - is there another tool that I could use?Is there a straightforward and time saving method to accomplish this?

I am editing an existing user manual.I updating information on several pages which will throw off the actual pages versus the TOCI added two new header sections (Heading 3, not a chapter) that should show in the TOCI performed the steps to update the pages, chapters, and footnote for page numbers in the footer - all of that was successful.However, when I save to PDF, the TOC is not updating.I manually add the (2) new headers where they should go by copying and pasting a similar. So they are there and formatted, but not linking.I have tried several times to "Update the Book" with just the book open and not documents open, and the TOC does not update. The Update Book has nothing in the "Generate:" field. (see capture)The "Setup Table of Contents" does not display on the "Edit" menu. I see the following. How do I update the TOC to reflect the new page numbers and the new headers? Thanks!

I am trying to convert Framemaker 12 created files to Framemaker 15 in my mac, via a VMWare which has a windows environment.  I get unavailable fonts error. I see that fonts like Palatino are not available. How can I update my font list and how to make sure that these files are saved correctly?

Hi, I was using the trial version of Framemaker 2019 v15.0.0.393 and the mathflow equation editor in structured mode (the settings were set to apply the paragraph style with the Euclid font), and after the update to v15.0.1.430, each time I insert an equation, only the default font for math is used, is the same document, above is the inserted equation after the framemaker update, below is the correct font being used, is there a way to reset the font settings ? or How can I make mathflow use the font I want and framemaker to display it correctly ? (the saved pdf does not use the Euclid font either)Any help is much appreciated

Hi,I'm wondering if the capability exists in FrameMaker 2017 to place a colored border (similar to the one in this partial image) completely around the white space on a page?  I would like to have a border surrounding the text on the page.  If so, how is it done? FrameMaker 2019, Win64I am publishing a manual with a lot of technical drawings imported as pdf files. The technical drawings (pdf files) all contain a lot of numbers. I have performed OCR on the drawings and saved them as pdf files with active text "hovering" above the numbers.I am hoping to publish the manual as html5 and have the active text in the pdf come along i the HTML5 output as active, selectable text. Only I can not make it work.I wonder whether there is a workaround to accomplish this? Is it possible to perform OCR on the final HTML5 output for instance?

Hi againA strange function. I have created task and concept files and collected those to a ditamap. In XML-files I see the figure titles above my figures and there is Figure 1, Figure 2... in front of titles as wanted. But when I save ditamap as book with fm components, in fm files the titles are shown below the figure, Figure 1, Figure 2.... are lost from front of titles and the title is with very small font in fm files.I checked the ditafm-output file and changed MoveFigureTitleToFollowImage=0, but no difference.When I close XML-file and reopen it everything looks like it should.I use FM 2019 (15.0.0.393).Where is the problem?UPDATE:I tested publishing from a task module to pdf. Figure titles are as should above the figure with text Figure and running number. But if I publish to pdf from ditamap including the same task, the figure titles are moved below the figure. I have inserted a Figure Double table into my document. One title is longer than the other and so the frames look skewed. Can I have a second line in the shorter title but without any text?

It's been a while since I have had to create an Index for a manual. I created it and wanted to use the page number formats that I have throughout the manual (example: 1-2 which displays chapter number and page number). It was only displaying page numbers and no chapter numbers. I had tried importing formatting from an existing Index in another manual. This didn't fix the issue. So I went into View>Reference Pages and added <$chapnum>- before the <$pagenum>. This still didn't fix the issue after clicking Update Book. After that, I received an error message "Book Error Report" which displaed the file for the book and it's location on our server. Under that it said "No master pages applied because the MasterPageMaps table contains no mapping information."I tried to do a search in this forum and in Help Topics but cannot find any information. Hi folks,I'm using structured FM13 and face spacing issues after table elements.The spacing between the table and the next element is specified with the Table Designer (Basic>Indents & Spacing > Below). This works fine for all my elements but the note element. To obtain similar spacing as with the other elements, the spacing below for the table must be changed from 8pt to 18pt. I tried to work around with the EDD. Hello,I created a new figure caption tag to be used on a two column master page.  I cannot get this new figure tag to format correctly in the list of figures generated.  Can someone please help me figure this out?  I'm sure it has something to do with the reference pages.  Here are a few screenshots to maybe help.Thank you in advance for your time.Reference page:This is how the LOF appears.  The first row has the correct formatting and the "Figure Caption" paragraph tag.  The second row has the "Figure Caption Two Column" paragraph tag.I cannot figure out how to get the correct formatting on the "Figure Caption Two Column" paragraph tag.Any ideas?

I am using Windows 7. The crash essentially prevents me from change preferences on the menu.

Chapter 5 contains a text inset.  Chapter 7 contains a cross reference link to content in that text inset.  When I create a PDF, clicking the link in Chapter 7 does not make the Chapter 5 text inset display.  Is there a way to fix this?Thanks!

We have a template that frequently gets updated, so we have a place on the reference page that displays which version it is. I was asked to make this field automatically update when the template file is saved with a new name, so I used the Filename (Short) variable. This works great until the template format is imported into a new document. Now the new document displays its filename on the reference page (mynewdoc.fm), rather than the template filename (template_041-112018.fm). Is there a way to use the Filename (Short) variable in the template and make FrameMaker retain its text on the reference page when the template format is imported into the new document? Or do we have to go back to manually updating the filename in the template to get what we want?We are using FM17.Thank you.

I know how to insert variables and text in a footer, but I am trying to separate the different elements for example, I would like the title on the left side of the footer and the page# on the right side. I've experimented with tab stops, but it is not giving me the desired results. Thanks in advance.

HiiI am working on DITA1.2  having some trouble while saving table ruling and shading.When I create a table  structure and apply some formatting styles it saves properly and close it but when i am going to open this file again the formatting gets disappeared in Framemaker2019.can you please help me out of this problem.

Good morning,I'm running into "File named xx.fm does not exist" errors when I zip my FM book and its children files. On my team, we create a "FrameMaker" folder on our local drive for working FM files. Once we've finished working with the FM files, we create a new, separate folder called "Source Files," and we copy the FM files from the "FrameMaker" folder and paste them into the "Source Files" folder. Other files such as Photoshop and Illustrator files are placed in this folder, too. Then, we send the "Source Files" folder to a compressed (zipped) folder. The error only appears when we open the FM book in the zipped folder. The book can be opened from the zipped folder, but the children files are marked in the book panel (on the left) with a question mark. Clicking to open the children files produces the error.One workaround we've discovered is that we can successfully open the children chapter files themselves from the zipped folder. There may be a simple method for doing this, but my FrameMaker/DITA experience is not great yet.I have a ditamap where I would like to reuse a topic. It is a boilerplate topic that is used more than once throughout the document.When I try to attach the same topic to the ditamap, my output fails.Can I not use the same topic/filename twice in one ditamap? Is this where conkeyrefs come in? I understand how in HTML5 output you might end up with a duplicate URL, but there must be a way of reusing a file without making a copy and changing the name.
