I think it might have to do with having conditional text with the variable hidden, the variable definition changed, and then the conditional text exposed. Even if I run Update References, the variables can remain unchanged. In such cases, I have to go through the document and manually update the problem variables. This runs counter to the usefulness of variables, of course, especially if you have a lot of them. Any ideas/suggestions?FrameMaker 13.0.3.495

In the 2019 release the save as pdf function does not work properly with automatic numbering.Text, as well as table of contents and bookmarks are numbered "1" so I get 10 chapters number 1...Is that possible to get an update to solve this issue please?[Moved from the non-technical Lounge to the specific Program forum... Hello, all.I am using FM 2015 in a Windows 10 environment. I initially thought this is a Windows problem, but my coworker who is using Windows 7 also cannot open this .chm file.I am publishing a .chm from FM 2015, using the identical files I have been working in for a year. Some time between my previous build on July 26 and the builds I have attempted today, something has changed. Now, when I select View Output, I immediately get an error message. The same thing occurs if I double-click on the .chm file in Windows Explorer. My coworker has had the same result. This is the message:Has anyone else encountered this problem? Ordered Lists mapped to Body Level styles are not always tagged when publishing HTML, Responsive or Basic. This appears related to using < =0> in autonumbering. I have FM 2017 14.0.4.511.Example: Here is a two-level list in a new FM file:There are only two styles, built from the defaults, identical except for indents and autonumbering:OL1_OrderedList1:  OL2_OrderedList2: If OL1 and OL2 are mapped to BodyLevel1 and BodyLevel2 respectively, with Convert to HTML chosen, the appearance is correct, and both list levels are tagged <ol>.However, if a forced reset of OL2 is added to OL1,then the FM formatting is still correct, but OL2 is not tagged as a list in the HTML.Here a different series letter and numbering scheme are used with OL3 mapped to BodyLevel3:OL1:     X:<R+>.\tOL2:     X:< ><A+>.\tOL3:     X:< >< ><n+>.\tIf resets are added, OL1:     X:<R+>

When generating webhelp in FrameMaker 12, file names appear in the Content list instead of the headings. In Chrome only the books appear. In IE, the books expand for only the first topic but the name of the topic shows the title for the help and not the actual heading. The content in the displayed page is fine.

I'm new to FM. how do you format page numbers in a book?

How can you import an image in the middle of a text line without forcing wider leading? We want to standardize the height of the image at a point where it fits but doesn't affect the leading. Currently the inline images seem to affect the leading before they reach the height of the text. We are using FrameMaker 2017, version 14.0.3.500.

Hi all. I'm new here and new to scripting. Been reading a lot and watching some videos but it still hasn't quite clicked. I'm am trying to write a script that will apply a hypertext marker to a specific paragraph format, and customize each marker with a specific newlink command based on the contents of the paragraph. For example, the following paragraph, which has the format CaptionFigure, would need a hypertext marker called newlink f3 to correspond with Figure F3:Figure F3. I have a online help file that I publish as a HTML5 file. When people access the help file, it caches. So, when we update the files, users do not see the updated files unless they clear the cache. Is there a way in FrameMaker to disable caching for HTML files?I spoke to a developer who mentioned the metadata to add to each page is <meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate" />. Hi,I came across a file where <Unconditinal > tag is placed within a <TextLine> tag. According to the MIF Reference, this should not happen as it states the following: The Conditional statement marks the beginning of conditional text and the Unconditional statement marks theend. These statements must appear in a Row or ParaLine statement.Should this file be considered a valid file? I just received some files from one of our offices overseas. When I try to open the files I get this warning message "appear to be a FrameMaker document, it can't be opend with this release of the product". Now I'm using 2015 version 13.0.2.433. Any one have any ideas?

I have a structured Framemaker document.  I pulled in a subsection of a chapter from version X into version Y of the document.   When doing this the object properties path of the images do not come in correctly.    Is there a work around that will not require a regeneration of the graphic element.

Just a heads up that the Adobe FrameMaker whitepapers seem broken.In FM 2019, there's a ... I don't know what to call it ... welcome area that has links to blogs, YouTube, Webinars, partners, and whitepapers.I clicked on Whitepapers, selected one (at random, I was only being curious), and then Internet Explorer opened. That's not my default browser (Chrome is), but I was game. The Webpage prompted me to fill out the form; but there was no form. IE had opened but was unable to display the form Adobe put there. So, I copied the URL, pasted it into my default browser (still Chrome), and it took me to a place where I had to give Adobe the same demographics I gave them when I got the demo software and also when I bought the current software (eyeroll).So, I did all that and ended up on a page that encouraged me to click a link to get the whitepaper."404"Brilliant. I had been RickRolled* by Adobe.  Cheers.(*Not really, but you know what I mean.)

FM 2019 just quit abruptly. I dug but haven't found an error log text file to send. I checked in C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\15. Where do these error logs get put in FM 2019?Thanks and have a great weekend,Sean

HiIn our custom application we have a function to save files in older versions formats using the FDK.I am using the latest FDK to save a file from v2019 to v2017. I use the "FV_SaveFmtBinary140" definition to save the file in binary format. Run the process but file cannot be opened with v2017.If I use the same function with "FV_SaveFmtBinary130" instead, it saves the files into v2015 format correctly. We have done this since v11 in the same way between consecutive versions.Am I missing anything? Has something else changed in the latest FDK or something missing?Thanks.

how to open an existing framemaker document using extendscript?

I have a script that reads a simple XML file, which has to be in the same folder as the script and with the same base name. For example, the script is called PublishOutput.jsx and the XML file is called PublishOutput.xml. The purpose of the script is to output Responsive HTML from a particular book. The book tree window is showing 3-4pt fonts after the latest update last week. Don't they test this stuff? I can't get it to change back to normal (which is way to small too).
