Hi. I need to import xml files including some text in Gujarati. Everything I've tried just produces a string of question marks.I have been able to copy and paste Gujarati text into FM documents, but that only works for a few pages, not for thousands of pages.Help?Thanks,Jack

Why was the option to have colored and/or large icons on the menu bars removed? My now older eyes are having a hard time distinguishing between the fancy "faded" icons, and the option to have them in color and larger than normal has been really nice. Now Framemaker 2017 has taken those options away and my eyes are feeling the strain.

Hi All,I have Opened a Book in FM12 which was originally written in FM7.All Chapter Files are as expected, they have icon of Chapter File.However, all TOC/LOF/LOT are also have icon of Chapter File.When I update the Book, it does not show any TOC/LOF/LOT.Is this normal? Does it require recreation of TOC/LOF/LOT?Thanks.

Hello, sorry if I'm just failing to navigate the Adobe website properly,but what is the proper page for getting hold of the various FrameMaker reference manuals (in PDF format?)The Online Help that gets launched from Frame's own Help command refers to a MIF Reference Guide at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/mifreference/mifref.pdf  and this is indeed an updated version of this document, for Frame 2017.This manual itself mentions a few others, such as one on "Customizing FrameMaker", but doesn't have any links...If I go to http://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/ to see what else I can find, it just gives a "Sorry, this page is unavailable" error.Google found me Online Manuals - Adobe FrameMaker | Adobe Developer Connection but those are all for FrameMaker 7.0 The INI reference guide referred to in the Help as being at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/2017/ini/index.html isn't...

How do I create ANSI z535 compliant messages in our machine manuals using the <hazardstatement> and <messagepanel> elements in structured FrameMaker 2015?  Using unstructured FrameMaker, I created ANSI-compliant messages easily by defining the needed style sheets for NOTICE, CAUTION, WARNING, and DANGER.Using DITA in structured Frame 2015, the results don't display in a manner compliant with ANSI.  Can I achieve the results I need by modifying the EDD?  Should I use a text inset (ugh!)?

I have a completed an unstructured FM12 book and now want to extract a list of all imported graphics within that book.How can I create a report of all the imported files brought into the book?

When I try to switch between WYSIWYG vie and Author view in FM 2017 (Structured), the document closes and the Welcome screen appears, deleting any changes. Is this a software glitch?

I got the xml files, which are used with Arbortext XML Editor 5.3 in DITA, it has all the DTDs and styles files. I want to use the same XML files in FM to work with either in structures or unstructured way, I'm novice to structured FM. When I open XML file in FM it ask to choose Structured Application, I have chosen DocBook, Xdocbook but not getting it what i want it displays as simple plain text without any style, formatting, and images. I just want the same look and feel of Arbortext some changes here and there i can manage though. I need to know what exactly I need to change, attaching the screen shot of XML file and file which opens in FM.What can I do to use existing XML in FM 2015 or 2017.

Hi All,I have a chapter with about 100 or so graphics, they are all Imported and linked to some Folder.Is there a Shortcut Way to convert all the Imported Graphics into Embedded Graphics???At the moment, I am looking at the Insets Panel with all the graphics files and thenSelecting each grphic One-by-oneAnd then, re-importingAnd then, re-selecting a Graphic File (in the Import Dialog Box)And then, Copy Into Document by re-selecting a Replace ButtonThen repeating all the steps for the next graphicsI thought there might be an easier way. I am using FrameMaker 2015. I tried the File > Publish feature, and selected WebHelp as the output. Everything seems to be working as expected, except for the Contents tab in the WebHelp output. Instead of the hierarchy of books and pages according to the heading levels, I have a flat list of topics all using the page icon, like this: (Ignore the heading information in the titles - I added that to help track what was going on.) I've hunted around for any TOC settings with no luck.I tried to find which file I could manually edit to change the layout and had no luck with that either.   (I am familiar with this feature in RoboHelp. In FrameMaker, there is no feature to edit the TOC.) How are the heading levels created in the TOC, and how do I change it? Thanks, Debbie

I am working with a tech writer who is off-shore, which I mention because I can't just pop over and check her computer, and we are in separate companies so our machines are not configured the same. We have a set of FrameMaker documentation files that use a font we had to install - the Eras family. On my computer, all the Eras fonts in headings appear in bold font. I transferred the files to her (after instructing on how to install the fonts and assuming this step was done correctly). She edited the files, then returned them to me and I see that all the headings are in regular font. This is throughout the entire document, so I know it wasn't done manually. On my computer, when I look at the Paragraph Designer for one of the headings, I have this information: Family: Eras Medium Size: 22 ptAngle: ItalicWeight: Bold Variation: Regular Color: Black etc. In the files that the other writer edited, the same heading shows as: Family: Eras Medium Size: 22 ptAngle: ItalicWeight: Regular Variatio

In Frame 12, I drew an oval shape to circle some text, and moved it to back so the text would show. When I no longer needed it, I did Ctrl Z to undo it. Then I went back to adding text saving along the way. I printed out my doc and saw remnants of the oval shape. Apparently I did not erase the oval in its entirety. Now I can't "grab" or select the object/graphic to delete it. Any idea how I can select the oval for deletion? Since I moved it to back, is it hidden forever?Thanks!

Hello All,Need to import a graphic (by copy) into a graphics frame located on a Reference page of the document. The objective is to have a number for each chapter on the First Master Page. This is done by using 'Frame Above Pgf' of the Paragraph Tag. This works fine manually, as shown below. I would like to have a generic chapter FM file where I can change the chapter number according to the value of <$chapnum>.Is there a way to import the graphic (number) into the graphics frame? I was forced to use the new 2017. I have tons and tons of docs to convert from one template into my FrameMaker template. Before the 2017 version, I was able to change the name of a style (e.g., "Normal" to "Body"), so when I applied my template, all the tags would apply perfectly and take the task of me having to apply the same style thousands of times within a doc---ummm, what happened to the Update All button in the Paragraph Designer?! My God, you can't remove this---you will cause me hours/days/weeks/months of extra work. Please someone, please tell me this is not GONE. Also, the online help mentions nothing about this.

Hello,I am having a problem adding underscores to equations.I found previous instructions from an old post on Framemaker 10, but it is giving me one issue. When I do this I get quotes in the blank space where the underscore needs to be. Basically something like this "". It really seems like there should just be a way to add an underscore directly and not just underline a blank space. The TOC which I have now with me does not have any leader lines and while I tried to change the way it looks, by going to the reference pages and adding new tab stops with left, right with leader lines.Now when I go to the body pages I don't see the update happening automatically, instead I had to enter the "Tab" before each page number in TOC. Hi! I have a framemaker book formed using DITA with an associated template. Whenever an opening <info> tag appears in the structure, a text label 'Additional Info:' appears in my output document. My guess is that this label is automatically generated based on something in the template (Recreating a new book with the same content but no template gets rid of the label, although this also made any <context> tags show up in the text as 'Context:'...).Any clues on how to fix this? I have just downloaded the TechCommSuite updates an I am running FM 2017 on Win10 64-bit.How can I rotate the graphics toolbar so that is is horizontal instead of vertical. Dragging it to the toolbars attaches it, but it is still vertical and so takes up half the screen?Thanks.

I have a number of Word documents that use a bulleted style. This style is mapped to a FM paragraph format that uses bullets and the mapping works well when I import the text. However, at the same time, FM seems to create a character format for every paragraph that contains a bullet, so that I end up with hundreds of character formats, named Bullet1, Bullet2, etc. These don't seem to have been applied anywhere in the FM document. The styles don't exist in the Word doc and there is no manual formatting, only the paragraph style that includes a bullet. Why is this happening and how can I prevent it? This is driving me NUTS!PS: FM 2015 at Version 13.0.5.547 (Patch 5).
