FrameMaker

How do you create hyperlinks in Frame 2015?  We have tried but we can't quite make it take.  Thanks for any help!Hyer

I generated a .pdf file from my FrameMaker 2015 Book file this morning, then updated a couple of master pages in one of the book's FrameMaker .fm files. When I tried to regenerate a new .pdf file, FrameMaker sent back the following error message:"The selected PDF Job Option does not exist in the current installation. Either create this Job Option or select an available Job Option. Continue? (OK/Cancel)"All PDF Job Options were functioning normally as of last evening, but now I cannot even select the single "Press Quality" option that appears in the PDF Job Options menu (PDF Setup for Selected Files > Settings Tab). I tried cold-booting my Windows 7 system (which was updated first thing this morning for Microsoft's compulsory Windows 7 updates) and relaunching FrameMaker, but no avail. Any guesses? Suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Using FrameMaker 10, I created the following hypertext: message URL mailto:xyz@abc.com. I then printed to PDF. When I click the link in the PDF it opens an email client message window (what I want) but also opens a web browser window with mailto:xyz@abc.com in the address bar (what I don't want). Why would it open both? I don't know if this is a Frame issue (more likely), an Acrobat issue (less likely), or a browser issue (not likely). I hope I'm just missing something easy here.

hi, But it is currently using the VISIO2013 version, as described below, garbled When you import a visio file from frame maker has occurred.Although the character was turned into a vertical is cracked all, this is a problem that occurs in the version of 2013, and to wrote the 2003 version wrote the 2013 in the past for the same reason. (current version : framemaker 9.0)

I have received a client's FrameMaker 2015 document that I need to prepare for translation. The book is comprised of over 900 .fm FrameMaker files each of which will need to be saved as a .mif file for use with SDL Trados Studio. Where can I find a script or a plugin for FrameMaker 2015 to allow me to batch process these .fm files without needing to Open > Save As each individual file? !

I have a new Lenovo T460  laptop with Windows 10.I normally write with zoom at 140%.Now statements in Courier font within InformalExample and Example elements do not display unless I reduce the Zoom to below 117.They disappear as soon as I increase the zoom to anything above 116.The underscore displays under all zoom settings in OTHER elements that do not use the Courier font.When typed in a Courier font, the underscore is present but does not display when the Zoom is > 116%.Also, the underscores no longer display in the content that existed in documents created on my old laptop.The underscores do not behave thus when Zoom is modified  in Word or Excel.

In FM 13.0.5.547 the scripts in the script library (favorites list) disappear after some time.I define a favorite script, then close FMStart FM again: (withing a minute) the script is still in the catalogue.I closeFM After a while (about 5 min) I start FM again=> Tthe script is no more in the catalogue!Where the heck is the catalogue stored?Who may delete the catalgoue?Klaus Daube

Hello all,I use variables in my user guide, so that application and feature names are consistent and easy to change when product owners change them.When I generate a PDF, the resulting TOC shows that the correct link does not include the variable text. So I have to each time manually stretch the link to cover the entire line. (see red circle below... "Patient Card" is a variable in the title)Also, I'm getting all sorts of crap link boxes all over the first page of the TOC that lead to the same set link to some document that I don't use. (see all the boxes of varying sizes that all have to be manually deleted to uncover the correct links).I had to reuse the settings from another document's TOC file, and so I inherited something from it that I can't find either in the master or reference page.Any feedback or leads to topics about this would be appreciated.Regards,Charlotte

Hi,A novice learning FM 2015, so far I have created a 171 page FM (not Book) file with several imported images as illustrations. I've mainly used a default right page master, but when I have added images (for example, PDF's) that were same size as a page (8.5X11), and didn't want to cover the default right master's added header/footer with that image, used second master that is blank. When I carriage returned (hit Enter) to add a new page in the same flow (before a page break) in order to add a new image or new text, other previously imported images added to other pages have moved down by the number of pages added and are hiding the text on another page. Also probably added a few disconnected pages, not in a flow to try to prevent this problem.Beginner's mistakes. Now, left with this messy FM file, I find that I need to continue to add new pages, new images, a cover page, etc. Each time I try to add,  I have the above problems. Hi,I hope somebody is able to help me with a good hint or tip.I am trying to create a context-sensitive Microsoft Help with FM12 only using the abilities of FM (no RoboHelp). For some reasons, my assigned ID's are not used in the generated chm file and therefore the help does not work context-sensitively.What did I do?- I created my FM files and assigned topic aliases to the headers. I did this two ways: a) using the "Special" menue and assigning a CSH marker and/or b) setting a new marker of type "Topic Alias" and typing the ID. I used only numeric IDs like "2000" or "4200",- I created a .h file (projectname.h) - based on the format of the file projectname_!Generated!.h (I read this in some instructions). Hi,Can anyone tell me why, when I open a .ditamap file, it is placed inside another MAP element thus making it invalid? I have to move all my topicrefs from the original MAP to inside the new MAP and delete the old (now empty) MAP. Yet when I close/ open the ditamap again, the same thing happens.Please see the screenshots below which illustrate this.Thank you.Graham Miller

I've been trying to figure out how to update the BookTitle and PartNumRevDate element tags (using Structured Frame) but am getting nowhere. I've tried:Selecting the tag, then selected Elements | Edit Attributes, but the dialog that appears doesn't show the existing string [book title/part num] nor does it let me add the new book title/part num as an attribute of the tag.Selecting the book file, then update these attributes in Structured View, but the new book title and part number were never updated in the BookTitle and PartNumRevDate element tags . Selecting the file, then selected File | File Info attributes and that didn't change/update the elements either.Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, how did you resolve it?Thanks!Kelley

I have two separate types of TOC for these documents, one for the book, and others for the chapters, Unfortunately, the TOC FOR the book is showing up as it's own chapter, which is absurd.I don't know why it wants to show as Chapter 1, is the the TOC.I have removed numbering from the TOC document. The next chapter has been set to show as number 1, both starting page count and chapter count.I am clearly missing something.Please assist and direct, if you know what part I am missing.(yes, I have done document and book numbering here, and none of them are changing the problem, as you can see)Thank you very much for any advice!

In my table of contents in the book pdf generated in Framemaker 12 the chapter names in the content column work as hyperlinks, but not the section numbers and page numbers. They do work in heading 4 and 5, but not in heading 1, 2 and 3. My table of contents consists of a content column, section column and page number column. Only the content column is a hyperlink and I would like also the section numbers and page numbers to work as links.Regards,Robert

I have created an image in Adobe Illustrator. There is no background. However, when I import the image into a table cell that has a colored background, the image shows a white background. I have made sure that the background is eliminated, and saved it as AI. I have also exported it with the "transparent" feature selected, using both AI and PhotoShop, into PNG format.When the AI file is imported into AI, there is no background. There is no background when I use other programs, such as Word. There is only a problem when using FM12.How can I import a graphic without FrameMaker adding the white background?

I have a document at the moment that has 3 different types of list in it, numbered, alphabetical and Roman Numerals.I started with the numbered list using <n=1>.\t and <n+>.\t , this worked fine 1 through 5.I then did an alphabetical list it just started from 'f', I forced this to restarted using <a=1>.\t and <a+>.\t to rectify this and it did 'a' to 'c' fine.But then when I start the numbers again using <n+>.\t it has started at 4, not carried on from the last numbering as 6.What am I missing here that will make it follow on from the old numbers?Reluctant to force restart from set numbers because that defeats the purpose of having these styles and would have to do it many more times.

How do I create a document using the Variant format? What edition is this available in?

I have an FM10 book that has a TOC, but it isn't recognized when I select Update Book. The file doesn't show in the Generate field of the Update Book window. Is there an easy way to "unbreak" a TOC?

Hi there,I work with FM12, a colleague uses FM11.We work on the same files, so I have to save as FM11.Is there a possibility, to change the default format in FM12: I'd like to save as FM11 using Ctrl-S and not FM12.RegardsChris

I'm having the same issue Adobe FrameMaker 12. I have repackaged the application and Adobe FrameMaker application installs fine but for some reason this one continually fails with the CustomAction CADeploy failing with error code 1603 on uninstallation. I've tried packaging on a freshly built or reimaged machine along with two others. The packager just will not successfully execute the MSI itself using command line.

How do I import a workspace from one version of FrameMaker to another?

Last week I purchased Adobe FrameMaker 2015. The program that I downloaded worked fine. Then, I did update 5. Since then when I try to open the program I get the message "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSCVR110.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program and using the original installation media........" I reinstalled the original program and it worked fine. Then, I did the update. Same happened again. I have only had my Windows 10 computer for a week and it is up-to-date with the Windows program. I have already the download of the Visual C file and it did not fix the problem. It was a very expensive to personally purchase FrameMaker and I need it to work. This seems a common problem for Adobe programs - why? What else can I do to fix it?
