FrameMaker

I need to call a Window's program, compiled in a different language,  from A Framemaker2015 script?I have seen "shell.run("file etc.) listed for other Java's.

Before I post a feature request, I'd like to know if there is any way to change book file names other than by doing it one file at a time in the book. I can't be the only person who has needed to rename a set of book files all in the same way. For example, change book files from Alpha-1Intro, Alpha-2Getting Started, Alpha-3Doing X, and so on, to Beta-1Intro, Beta-2Getting Started, etc. For these cases, a filename "bulk replace" function that would allow you to change part of the names in the same way would be so helpful. Is this asking too much, or is it too unique a need? Thanks

I'm a retired EE who has used FrameMaker starting with version 1 from Frame Technologies, up until I retired, at which time I chose not to upgrade my then-current Frame 6.0. I still use FrameMaker for all kinds of jobs. perhaps not to the depth as when I was in industry. Recently, I've found there's a good market locally for formatting books for print, something I used to do a lot of, but I ran into a problem.In 6.0, when I printed a book file with 5.5" x 8.5" to PDF  with crop marks, I found the print size was not accurate, and was in fact 5.2" x 8.3" between the crop marks. I read online that this was a known bug in 6.0, so I just bought a subscription to 2015, and installed it. While the setup is a bit different, it's enough like 6.0 that I didn't feel baffled, but my PDFs with printer's marks are still about 3.7% small, and submissions to Amazon CreateSpace complain about those borders.Does anyone have any experience with this? Newbie to FM (well, not exactly, as I used in on a Unix machine long, long ago).Framemaker 2015Is it possible to use the Word style-to-?tag? mapping (not sure of FM's terminology) to ease content development?That is, working from an existing FM file with an array of paragraph and character stylizations, can I create styles in Word whose style names correspond exactly to those in the existing FM file? And will the conversion neatly and simply turn the Word content into the correctly-styled FM result?

I am using FrameMaker 12 (version 12.0.4.445).When I access the Cross-Reference pod, I have noticed the following software problems:-If I click the scroll bar a few times to go up or down the list, the scroll bar freezes.-If I scroll through the list and then click on a cross-reference, I cannot select it. The software selects a random cross-reference instead of the one I previously selected. Have you experienced the same cross-reference problems when using FrameMaker 12 and found a resolution? Hi,I have seen this issue for some time now, both with FM11 on Win XP and Win7, and FM12 on Win7. It is such an aggravating problem that I thought surely somebody else would have complained about it by now. So I decided that it must be some anomaly in my little world here. But recently, we've gotten a second copy of FM for somebody else and the same thing is happening. So let me ask all of you.When a pod with a scrollbox is docked, AND there is something currently selected, AND you scroll that item out of site, the next click in the scroll box returns that item to the top and makes you select something that you didn't want to. I have recently upgraded from FM10 to FM12 (Unstructured) and I am having a random problem with any part of the UI with a long list of selectable items, such as any of the Catalog pods or the Cross-Reference pod. Basically, I scroll down, select the item I want (say a paragraph style) and FrameMaker randomly selects another item. If I scroll down and try again, I'll get a different random selection. However, just to make things difficult to pin down, I can go for several hours without an issue.I work with three other authors, two on FM12 and one on FM11, none of whom have ever experienced this problem.Has anyone else encountered this with FM12 (I don't get it in FM10)? For what it's worth, I updated FM12 with today's patch, but the problem is the same.

Tearing my hair out, can anyone help...I know this is possible, I achieved a very good result back in April after a fairly brief search of the internet for a method. It was so easy I didn't feel the need to record the method, or where I found the advice. Yes, I KNOW how stupid that was.I am at work, so no possibility of updating software or using Mif2go. Not sure that Mif2go would work on such primitive files anyway. I am using FM+SGML 5.5 to create unstructured files arranged in a book file. I need to convert these files, individually or as a book, to rtf, preserving as much as possible of the formatting.I seem to recall Acrobat Distiller being involved in the process I used before. I still have the resulting file, which has retained all the paratags. I think I had to tweak the para definitions and replace the headers and footers. Cross references are missing. I have had no luck recreating the method, or finding it again on the internet.Any help gratefully received.Ruth

We are setting a book in FrameMaker 11 that has hundreds of inline equations. One of the problems we are running into is the punctuation after an equation. In particular, periods and commas are too far away from the equation. The last time we set the book we opened the equations and put the punctuation inside the equation. The author is not happy with this approach as it could compromise the equations. Is there a way to kern the punctuation and the equation as you would with 2 individual letters? It doesn't seem to work on equations.Thanks in advance.

Ok I have created a document in structured frame and saved it out as sgml.  Using Arbortext Editor I opened the converted document and am having problems with the tables coming across correctly. they are coming in as markup and not image as they should.  Further, it is not recognizing spanned cells.Another issue is when I bring it back from sgml into framemaker, it does not recognized the paragraph format NAMES.  The formatting is correct, the numbering is correct, but everything is called body.

The only time I can see the file is when I click the "x" to close it. I started having this problem today.

I'm hoping I can explain this clear enough, I know I'm missing something, but I'm completely stumped.Here is the symptom:When working in structured view, selecting an element and then using the keyboard shortcut for copy (Ctrl+C) does not work. I get a beep. While the right click menu - Copy does work. Same applies to the keyboard shortcuts for cut, copy, paste, and even the delete key.If I click on the desktop, then back to the structure window on an element, it will work one time. For example I can copy the element. Then I have to click on the desktop and back in the structure window where I want to insert the element.Another odd behavior is that when this occurs, pressing a single key on the keyboard has the same result as using the Alt+key, but there is no underscore in the menu letters. For example, pressing V drops down the view menu as if I pressed Alt+V. The underlined letters in the menu for the shortcuts do appear when I press the Alt key.UPDATE: When the Structure View panel

FrameMaker 2015 now has 4 updates. Do they need to tediously be installed one by one, from oldest to newest, or can I just install update number 4?

I recently upgraded to Windows 10, TCS wouldn't work properly. I tried reinstalling, most of the programs came back and were updated. Acrobat appears in the start menu but doesn't fire up. I spoke to someone on the phone who emailed me, asked me to reply to the email but no response.Anyone else had this, any suggestions?David

Since I'm fairly new at working with Framemaker, maybe I'm searching in the wrong area.I'm writing a document that has multiple sections of instructional steps along with multiple images in each section. Here's how I have the steps numbered in each section (module):M:<n>.<n=1>   OUTPUT EXAMPLE= 1.1M:<n>.<n+>     OUTPUT EXAMPLE= 1.2M:<n>.<n+>     OUTPUT EXAMPLE= 1.3I want to autonumber the images in the sections by referncing the section number (module number) "1", but follow the number with a letter. i.e. 1.A, 1.B, 1.C.I tired this:M:<n>.<A=1>M:<n>.<A+>Unfortunately, once I add the number format to the image...the numbers of the steps in the section start counting up by the amount of images.I want to reference the step numbers because there are some steps that are all text and do not have images, which would force me to manual

I am trying to  create a List of Tables and List of Figures that looks like my Table of Contents. My Table of Contents uses a side hide for the Chapter Number and the Chapter name  and Heading titles in the column.                 I want the List of Figures and List of Tables to use the Figure Number and the Table Number in the Side Head of their respective documents, and the Figure Captions and Table Captions in the column.                However, In the Table of Contents the <$chapnum> building block is used to create the Chapter number in the Side Head. How can I do this for the Figure and Table lists? I am including images of what I would like generated files to look like.

I'm new to the FrameMaker interface (though have past experience with DreamWeaver) and cannot easily find HOW TO create a CONTACT page with fields for filling in the visitors' email addresses and other contact information. Please point me in the right direction.

I am going crazy trying to insert a screenshot into my FrameMaker document. When I insert the .tiff image, the quality of the image becomes pixelated and cheap looking. Any ideas on how I can fix this? The file is 973 KB.

Previously, I had TCS5 on Windows7 64-bit and I had no problems to produce an on-line help by importing a FM book to RH.Now, I have TCS2015 on Windows10 64-bit  and RH2015 crashes each time I try the following procedure.1. Once RH2015 is launched everything works fine,2. As soon as I import a project by defining the FM book to import, FM2015 starts and immediately a window displays a crash notification message (see the figure below).NB: FM2015 is the last build: 13.0.4.532Is it a known problem ?

Hi,I have a FM2015 book which has been translated into THAI language. The THAI book has been worked on by a service provider in Thailand, now that I am opening the files on my comupter the whole text is just in question marks. The font is installed. I have a former version of that document as FM10 book, which, once I open it with FM2015, is just fine. Same font. Any ideas?Thanks a lot
