FrameMaker

The document source I have is DITA XML with links to 20-50 external Visio files.When I open the XML file in Frame, it takes several minutes (up to 5 minutes) to load.Is there an issue with invoking Visio in the background for each individual Visio filles?When I use .fm/.mif as source, there is no performance issue.

I am not sure how to enter Chapter.Pagenumber correctly for RTL working -  the problem is for both page numbers and cross-references.The LTR books are numbered:1.12.13.1...10.1A.1B.1C.1For the RTL books I would like to have:1.11.21.3...1.101.א1.ב1.גI have found out how to set-up the sequence correctly when using the hebrew/arabic characters but I cannot find out how to to set-up the first part of the sequence using  1 to 9 as they always appear LTR.

I have been running the same files through frame for months now. Today I got an out of memory error after saving a PDF, then I started getting the above Internal Error.Now I am totally screwed. I can't open any .FM files. I can open .book files but if I can't edit the .fm, I can't do anything. I tried the same book as when it crashed, I tried a different book, I tried just opening various FM files that I didn't touch today. I rebooted. I cleared out the roaming profile. Nothing works, just this same error message.I sent in the crash to support but I am needing to get back to work. Suggestions? Reinstall? Buy some other product and convince everyone working in my committees to do the same?

I recently installed framemaker 12. Save as PDF tells me I need distiller version 5.05 or newer installed.How do I obtain adobe distiller 5.05 or newer?

Hi there,I'm using FrameMaker 10. New to the program too, and I'm at a loss as to why I have this horizontal black mark in my text frame. My file doesn't use graphics, and I've checked the styles, page layout. and it doesn't disappear. It shows in a PDF as well. What am I missing?Thanks for your help!

We upgraded to Framemaker 12, now the view element boundaries (as tags) doesn't work. Is there a bug or am I lost?

I had a problem after loading a file created in FrameMaker12 into FrameMaker2015 and tried to flip the document to RTL.On contacting someone in Adobe I was informed that you cannot Flip documents not created in FrameMaker2015.Could some one confirm one way or another because I cannot find any limitation in the documentation.I am a little puzzled because I have found some documents will flip perfectly and others won't!Bob

I have a document with approximately 50 tables in it, some of which I need to add some text and shade some cells etc. The tables which I need to run my script over are identified by a string ( just one word ) found in the second row, first cell of these particular tables. I need to search each table in the document for this string, if the string is present then apply the script, if not present then move to the next table in the document. I've had good read around "getText" but I'm unsure if this the right way to go and still don't know how to apply it. Anybody any ideas how I could achieve this? ThanksChris

Sometimes my toolbar change like figure above that I cannot use them! If I restart the software, the toolbar will work well.

     Using FM 10, I am having a problem I had several years ago, but do not recall what I did with it.  I have a small book, essentially finished except for indexing.  But when I type, the print is green, not black.  If I delete it, it turns red and cannot be deleted.       Is this a problem with the text file, or with the software itself?  Have I pushed a wrong button somewhere? (My first hiearchical book in FM11. Win7x64.)I've created a book of two child books.Each child book has:A generated TOC as its first file. Its first paragraph in the primary flow has the paratag dtc-ChapTitle.Content as its second file, with tags such as h1-Head1, h2-Head2, and other paratags.(Side note: that child book design implements the idea of a chapter TOC without using a text inset. That's how this adventure started.)dtc-ChapTitle appears only in the (generated) TOCs of the child books (1's above), not in the content files (2's above).The parent book has two child books and a generated TOC. Working with DITA 1.3 in FrameMaker 2015. Had added several user variables, but after relaunching FrameMaker and loading the XML files, found that the variables had been renamed to fmv1, fmv2, fmv3, etc.Is this because I'm working with the DITA structure?

HelloI think this is more of a product bug than a question. The FrameMaker 2015 interface has really tiny menu items and icons, even when I increase the Windows appearance settings to zoom larger. It doesn't affect FrameMaker. Plus the interface window has holes in it, where I can see right through FrameMaker to other applications behind it. There are strange blanks spaces as well that makes some of it illegible. I am in the process of rebuilding a failed workstation that had FrameMaker 9 installed.  When I attempt to activate the new installation I get the following error;Excuse the interruption, but...  Our records indicate that this serial number has already been used to set up and activate FrameMaker 9 on two other machines, which is the maximum number allowed.The original workstation is unrecoverable.  How can I get additional activation?

  We are using FrameMaker 12 version 12.0.4.445. I first print to a postscript file and afterwards create a pdf file using Adobe distiller. We use the Helvetica World font in the document. As we print out the pdf file on a printer using Adobe Reader XI version 11.0.6, some text is missing.  Any and all assistance will be great on this.

Is there a User Log (history) available in FrameMaker v.11... Also, is there a `Compare`capability in Frame.

I use Frame v. 11 I've had 2 instances of text mysteriously 'disappearing' from my document: once the letter 'a' was globally removed, the 2nd time the word 'installation'. I didn't do these deletions - anyone have any experience with this?

     I just typed this question, then it disappeared, so I do not know if it got submitted.  Here it is again.     Am using FM 10 with a small book.  I had had a problem with marked text  not appearing in the index,which got solved.  Now I have the opposite problem.  The entries appear in the index, but there are no markers in the text.  I can find the words in the text only by going backwards from the entries in the index.      So how do I get the markers to reappear in the text?  Everything works except that the markers do not appear.  I can enter a new entry OK, but the word has no marker on it.  Makes it very difficult to edit the entries.Earle...embus@theroadtoemmaus.org562-242-4926Message was edited by: Earle Fox

I did what was suggested here. I added a TOC Master page. I tried to run the TOC again and got the exact same Book Error Report: No master page applied because one or more master pages do not exist. I must be missing something but I cannot figure out what it is. I went back and checked in a previous book to see if there were Master pages for TOC, LOF, and LOT. There were no Master pages for any of these documents.I know I must be missing something but cannot figure out what it is. Please help if you can. Now that we can publish content as WebHelp and HTML5 output in FrameMaker 2015, can we still link FM files in RH (in 2015)? I'm trying to publish my content as WebHelp using FrameMaker 2015 and I don't have a lot of control/options on the output as much as I do using RoboHelp. Is it better to do the FM to RH integration? If so, then does TCS 2015 allow linking FM files in RH?Please advice.
