Hi,I try several XSLT 2.0 stylesheets in XML code view of FM11. There everything is working as desired. But when I test the same style sheets in a structured application as pre-process, there are several error messages that eg XSLT 2.0 functions are unknown.The information regarding XSLT 2.0 support in FrameMaker are somewhat contradictory. Can it be that XSLT 2.0 is only supported in the XML code view? In the "maker.ini" under "XSLTProcessors" SAXON is defined as default processor.Thank you for your help.RegardsApollo102

Hello, I was assigned to translate the text in a .MIF file. I was able to translate the largest part of it. However, I could not figure out how to edit headers and translate the text therein. Any clue on this? Thank you?

will InDesign documents convert to FrameMaker flawlessly?

Hi,(FM2015, Win 7)I'd like to use Chinese characters in several dialog boxes, such as the following as a static autonumber for note paragraphs:注I'd also like to use these characters in variables, cross-reference formats, etc. The dialog boxes accept the characters but the document text just shows question marks. I don't know enough about these character sets to make it work. Can anybody help out an Asian character noob here?Thanks,Russ

During one of the presentations for the latest FM I am sure that there was a statement that more features had been added to the functions of the tables. The help files with FM2015 are pretty poor. An existing file with equations all at once began incorrectly displaying symbols.  ie. A "/" now displays as an "&".  There are many much worse examples.  The symbols display correctly when the file is opened on a different computer.  What have I done??

A basic layout question which I've somehow never run into before … the screenshot shows almost what the document owner wants; but I would like more vertical space between each graphic and the next paragraph, and (see point 5) a bit more horizontal space between the text and the graphicProperties so far:anchored frame – run into paragraph, right align, gap 6.0 ptgraphic – run around contourI experimented with a run-in head paragraph for the text and a right-aligned paragraph for the graphic, but then I couldn't work out how to align the graphic to the top of the paragraph.Hints and tips welcome!

My client wants all sections/chapters to start on the right-hand page, and to add a blank page at the end if that is an even page.Simple enough; but they also insist on putting a line saying "this page is intentionally blank" when that even blank page occurs.So, their Table of Contents is just one page, as is their List of Figures.Despite my trying to talk them out of it, they insist that they want "this page intentionally blank" to be on the second, blank page generated when the TOC and LOF are created.I can't seem to figure out how to do that.Suggestions?

Somehow when fiddling around in Frame, I managed to remove the paragraph catalog panel and it's gone forever. It's not minimized, it's just... gone. I still have the character catalog, and I have both paragraph and character designer panels, but the handy panel I use all the time to select a paragraph style for text is gone into thin air.I spent hours off and on browsing the web, scouring help files, and trying every View and Settings option I can find, to no avail. To make this clear, I am attaching a screen shot. You'll notice under the item "F Catalog" the thing that is supposed to say "<para symbol> Catalog" that used to be there is gone. This is a cry for help -- anyone know how to get that back? Not sure if this automatically informs me of updates, so if you can also email mim (at) collegenet.com, I'd appreciate it.

In FM 12, I have a book open. I am trying to save Book as PDF and FM is crashing.Can not find the reason why, I do not see Distiller coming on (or working).This is the last screen I see. I clicked OK.

What I'd like is for the script to open the source documents for all the insets in the current active document.I think I'm quite close, but I'm having trouble finding the correct method to call to get the filepath for the current inset. I'm not sure what I've done wrong. I viewed several tutorials, and it seems pretty basic on how to embed a video file into FM 12, but it is not working for me in the PDF. The steps I have taken are: (1) Import .flv file; (2) Name video; (3) Insert play/pause links to graphic; and (4) save as, and alternatively, printed to PDF. When the PDF generates, the video is just a graphic and the links I inserted take me to my browser's home page instead of opening a video player. Can anyone tell me what I may have missed or done wrong? Also, after the PDF generates, FM freezes (blue spinning circle, FM "not responding). Not sure why that is happening...Thanks in advance!Sarah

My FrameMaker MIF files are translated to Chinese. When I open one of these MIF 10 files in FM 12, several missing font messages appear in the console:The "      " Font is not available.  "Times New Roman" will be used in this session.The "       Italic" Font is not available.  "Times New Roman Italic" will be used in this session.The "       Bold" Font is not available.  "Times New Roman Bold" will be used in this session.The pages are filled with repeated question marks rather than Chinese characters.I see Chinese strings in the MIF file (<String `在上例中，' > for example). The Fonts report (Special > List of > References > Fonts) also does not list the missing font names. Entries like this appear:       @ 10.0 pt 229       @ 9.5 pt 233How can I find the names of the missing fonts, or is something else going on? The

There is an old (2008) thread in this forum re: the FM comparison utility showing all imported graphics as being changed, whether they were changed or not. Now we are in FM 12 and have the same problem. This is Windows 7 Pro. and FM 12.0.4.445.I just saved an existing file under a new name, "FIleA," and then immediately resaved it as "FileB." Comparing these newly saved, identical files yielded a .CMP file indicating that every graphic had changed. Per the old thread, I tried saving the files as MIFs, then resaving as FM files. This did not work. What did work was to save  both files as MIFs and then compare the MIFs - the utility (finally) correctly stated that the files were the same. That, however is a pain. Does anyone have a different solution? It irritates me so much that we upgraded from FM 8 to FM 12 and find problems like this still exist.  (Note: comparing in Acrobat is not possible because the files are too big.)Thanks for any new insights.

I have FrameMaker10.  It was installed and working on a Windows7 plateform.  Then, several months after installing it and using it, when I tried opening it, it just gave me a little message that says the license for this product has expired. I thought that once you purchased the product it was good for life?  I even tried installing it on a new Windows7 machine but get the same result.  Can anyone out there help me with this?  Does a FrameMaker10 license expire?  If so, how do I get an upgrade?

Hi folks--I'm converting legacy content to XML. I am applying a conversion table to add structure, then using Save As XML to create DITA files. The structuring part is working fine--in the structure browser I can see what I expect to see there. However, when I "Save As XML" using any of the standard DITA applications, my <image> elements disappear. Everything else looks great, it's just the missing <image> elements that are giving me a headache.The images are visible in the structured document (they are referenced to external TIF files), and I can see in the structured viewer that the <image> elements are there. If I save the document as XML with no structured application, I get the image elements (but of course not with the attributes that DITA wants).Does anyone have any advice about how to make the DITA application pass the <image> elements through to the XML output, or what I might be doing wrong in the conversion table? I recently installed and started using FrameMaker 12 on a Windows 7 Enterprise machine. This FrameMaker 12 version is subscription-based. I have had an intermittent problem with the application freezing on start-up when it reaches the Localization screen (see below). I was told to open the application from the start menu, and that seemed to help. Unfortunately, I tried opening it from the start menu recently, and it stuck on this same screen. I have tried the following solutions that were mentioned in the Community regarding similar situations: upgraded to FrameMaker 12.0.4, renamed the FrameMaker 12 folder, renamed the Linguistics folders, and changed the default printer to Adobe PDF. None of these have corrected the issue. The only thing that seems to work is to open a second instance of the program, and then the applicatin opens up while the first instance is still hanging. Does anyone have any other ideas on what I should try?Thanks,Allon

How do i open a .sgm file with FrameMaker?

"exciting" times ahead as I wait for our support team to finish delivering software for my new laptop … so far, it has Acrobat X Pro (installed) and the possibility of installing Acrobat DC from the Creative Cloud. I ordered a FrameMaker 12 licence a year ago, which we may or may not now be on the point of installing.Assuming I get past the hurdle of not installing PDF Creator with FM, should I stick with Acrobat X or go ahead and install Acrobat DC?Thanks in advance for advice here.

I am importing full pages of graphics. Is there a way to set the settings to be the same for each one? The size (%), placement? Also, some of the graphics are more than one page. Can it be set up that each flows onto a new page, rather than having to import each page separately?

The PgfFmt "Body" is shown as modified in FM (asterisk) but the Paragraph Designer shows the old Start property.I need to update the "Start" PgfFmt property. I have a client's book file (FM 12) that has had it's individual files renamed and now the TOC icon is no longer the different color marking it as a TOC and it does not show up in the box to regenerate in the update book dialog box. Is there a way to re-mark it to designate it as a TOC?I had this problem some time ago and IIRC I used the file as a "Template" but I can't remember the steps and when I look it up in the Adobe "Using FrameMaker" it is a little too vague on the exact steps to take (see below):To use a template or an existing generated file in a new book file, add it to the book as a generated file. Then put the existing file in the folder that contains the book file, using the name that appears in the book window.The first sentence says to "Add a template to the book as a generated file". How do you tell it to add the file as a generated file?Thanks in advance!Chris
