FrameMaker

Our company has introduced new rules for the design of our documentation and one of these rules states that the row and column dividing lines within tables must now be .5pt dotted lines.FrameMaker 7.2's 'Custom Ruling and Shading' line options are very limited in this regard as there is no facility for selecting  or creating any form of dotted line. I can create just the style of line we need in a drawing package and add it to the reference pages for the document but the table Custom Ruling and Shading dialog box doesn't seem to use the information from the refence pages.We have come up with a workaround of sorts for the horizontal dividing lines by placing a suitable graphic in the left-hand cell which then appears to straddle the whole table,  but we cannot think of any easy way to  make the vertical cell dividing lines  dotted.Has any one else found a way around this limitation?We could go to InDesign (which is what the company used to design the new templates) b

Good day everyone,After installing Framemaker 12, I cannot start the program. Windows 7 Enterprise gives me an error 0xc000005. Looking at the event viewer, there is a clash with windows file ntdll.dll. If I start Windows in safe mode, I can start Framemaker. Same with safe mode with networking. I tried turning off all services and system settings to no avail.I have all the most recent patches for Windows and Frame, tried every option out there on the Internet and Can't get it to work. Has anyone else encountered or heard of this? I thought I'd ask the users at large before giving in to contact Adobe and Windows support.I'm looking for any other options to start and use Framemaker. Running it only in Safe Mode won't do, as I can't print and the video is way too big.Thanks_Don

I have a tool to convert Framemaker book into PDF.How do I set the PDF Job Options to Standard using FDK 12.Also I want to set the default option to RGB instead of CMYK in the PDF setup for selected files using FDK 12.Thanks-FMAuto

Got a trailhead for these symptoms?I attempted the initial upload of a book plus inset files from FM11 to a Sharepoint server. After connecting to the server through the CMS interface, I right-clicked, selectedThat part looked good. The progress bar appeared and was active.An error log window appears after a few hours with a message like this: The following files could not be uploaded due to some error.Edit 20141021: The error log is not completely accurate. It claims, for example, that 191 files in an _images folder did not upload. But the SP open-in-Explorer view shows that 138 of those, approximately 72%, did upload. Ugh.In that error log:Some (not all) of the paths to files contain spaces. Are spaces not allowed?Other paths contain the underscore character. For example: D:\ABC\Development\ABC_App_UserGuide\_Images\Dashboard.swf. Hi,I have installed FrameMaker 12 as part of the Technical Communication Suite. I am experiencing the following problems with printing:Cannot print multiple filesTo print a file, the file must be open and in focus (so in the following screenshot I can only print Orca_AcquireLine_Content)If however I select multiple files from the book......then select Print selected Files I get the following error and FrameMaker crashes:The two selected files are then saved as recovery files.Cannot print a bookIf I select Print Book the correct files in the book are automatically selected (in this example Orca_AcquireLine_DocHistory is set to be excluded from print) however nothing happensSave as PDFThis option works fine.Save Book AsWhen the PDF option is selected this also works fine.Has anyone else experienced this problem or has any ideas how to fix it?Thanks,Nicola

As a new user to Framemaker, I have had great success with these forums in the past. So, thank you.First off, I am using Framemaker 12.I have had no problems in the past, but now when I save a file to .pdf it will not produce all the images with it. I saved the same files two weeks ago before reviews began and nothing was missing then. I have not changed anything with the files between then and now besides some textual (i.e. grammar) changes. Any suggestions?

I am running into an issue with the Pagination changing when I update my book.  I have set the Pagination on both the book and problem page to "Don't Change Page Count".  I'll save the file and book, close them and re open.  The pagination is still  "Don't Change Page Count".  Once I Update the book, the Pagination changes in the problem page and book to "Make Page Count Odd".  What is causing this issue and how can it be fixed?

Hello everyone,I am trying to adjust page numbering in a chapter.More specifically, I am trying to insert pages as point-pages (e.g., page 1-1.1).My master pages use the Current Page# variable (<$chapnum>-<$curpagenum>).Currently, if I insert pages, the page count increases accordingly. I'd like the counter to stop and remember the present count, then pick up the count after the point pages are inserted.Any help is appreciated,Fernando

Hi, Frame usersWhat is your opinion on using Graphics with PDF-format when authoring DITA content, as I'm not sure that PDFs are supported as Graphics-format in DITA?Reason for this is that I'm trying to switch from using grapics with WMF-format (exported from cad) to SVG-format, but I have experienced some problems when importing Graphics with SVG-format to FrameMaker.Sómetimes it works, but not always, for example "the filter encountered a problem and could not complete the translation".I have also tried checking if the files are valid with the W3C online validator.Best regardsRonny

I inherited a book from a previous writer that has two conditional tags defined: 1) Instructor view, 2) Student view. The instructor text condition is defined to display in orange. This works perfectly in all chapters of the book except one, and yet the condition definitions are identical in all chapters/files. Am I missing something really obvious? This is my first time using conditional text. I'm version 11. Thanks for any help.

When I use the URL hypertext function and type in mailto:<email address> and save it as a pdf. When bringing the pdf up in a smart phone and tapping on the link, it will bring up email to that person. Is there a FrameMaker version that also does this for a phone number and what is the text that needs to be typed in? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!

I bought and Installed Adobe FrameMaker 12 licence version with Adobe Acrobat Plugin.I want to know will this consider as two seperate licence.(One for FrameMaker and One for Acrobat) or as a single licence for FrameMaker 12  together with Acrobat plugin.

When I attempt to generate a List of References for imported graphics in Frame 12, all I get back are the PDFs and PS files. Why no SVGs or TIFs, or other graphics formats? Is there a setting somewhere that determines which types of graphics files will be listed?

Some of my documents are 5000 KB up to 7000 KB. Most of them are around 200-300 KB. I have a lot of graphics, but they are linked (not embedded). These graphics average about 25-60 KB in size. Even if I had 20 graphics, that would still not account for the large size..would it???Does anyone have an idea how to minimize these files sizes?I am using FrameMaker 11.Thanks

I am trying to apply a character format to a single character.I have tried :MyDoc.SetTextVal(myrange,Constants.FO_CharFmt ,"RoundFont")and var charFmtId = MyDoc.GetNamedObject(Constants.FO_CharFmt, "RoundFont"); var myprops = MyDoc.GetProps(charFmtId) MyDoc.SetTextProps(myrange, myprops);  neither work unfortunately - I have been trying for two weeks!I know the "myrange" is Ok because I can delete characters in the range correctly and add a character instead.

Hi guys,I'm struggling here with some very strange behavior of FM11.I've got a book (unstructured) with multiple FM binaries (structured).The first book component is the front cover with some inlay pages including a self generated TOC (out of cross references to the start and end pages).This book needs to be printed and contains 48 pages total, including the cover as the first and last book component.Now the first component contains 3 pages and a double sided layout using several self defined master pages (I know there's an issue with deleting surplus pages with no left/right MP).But that's not exactly my problem. The problem arises when I try to refresh the book. There's a blank page being created in the first book component, which I got rid of in the first place.That wouldn't be much of a problem since I can delete that page manually (and it keeps being deleted if I don't refresh anything).But the real issue is, that the references are updated AFTERWARDS, meaning all page references

in Structured Frame, is it possible when a table splits across pages that the last cell at the bottom of a page has extra space below the cell content and the first at the top of the next page has extra space above the cell content? If so, how.

I have never run into this before. I jumped into my FrameMaker installation directory, because some things in maker.ini are not available in the copy in my profile path (such as paste preferences), and I was blocked from saving changes because I lacked permissions.Why do IT departments lock that down?I mean, clearly programs can install there, so a virus or malicious code could still do harm, but why do they lock me, the local admin, out? Hi All,I have created two styles for image captions:1. The first image caption, for which i have added the following content in the Numbering tab:F:Figure <n=1>2. The second image caption, for which i have added the following content in the Numbering tab:F:Figure <n+>My first chapter has only one image, so i just apply the first image caption. No problem there.The problem i am facing is that the image captions do not update when i apply the second image caption to the first image in the second chapter. So all the first images in the subsequent chapters start with "1" and do not auto-update from the previous chapter.Appreciate the help. Upgraded from Adobe Tech Comm Suite 3.5 to 5 on Win 7 64-bit computer. V3.5 was not listed in Control Panel so I did not uninstall it first. Now I have duplicates of everything. How do I uninstall v3.5?
