FrameMaker

Hello,I had some Fm7 files which i converted to frame maker 11. I was facing font issue for which i replaced the default font with windings. TOC links are not working in Main TOC but they are working smoothly in the SUB TOC. For example : Main TOC      TOC 1             TOC2Links are not working in the Main TOC page but they work with TOC1 and TOC2.When i checked the links alt ctrl click works for other TOC but not for the main TOC.I want the links to work in PDF output format.Can anyone please help me out with it.

I am working on a FM10 book doing a translation and am unable to locate the source to change the chapter heading word CHAPTER.

Hi. I am trying to specify Control+, as a keyboard shortcut in a custom FrameMaker command defined in an ExtendScript script. I am using this:var cmd1 = DefineCommand(1, "LinkToHeadingStepOne", "L1", "^,");The command works, but the keyboard shortcut doesn't. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.Rick

The company for which I work recently bought a number of FrameMaker 10 licences. Several days after installing it, a message began to appear when FrameMaker was launched: "Unable to activate Adobe FrameMaker 10". The message goes on to say that product activation is required, we must connect to the internet to activate it, and we have 23 days to activate the product before it becomes disabled.The problem is, the PCs on which it's installed are connected to a defence classified network which is not connected to the internet and cannot be under any circumstances. Removing the PCs from the network and connecting them to the internet is not an option, given our security requirements.One of our technical support people contacted Adobe to find a way around this, and was told that if we won't connect to the internet we can't use the product.This seems extraordinary. I created files using Unstructured FrameMaker 11. Our customer has FrameMaker 10. I saved the FrameMaker 11.0 files as Document 10 files (*.fm) and sent them to our customer. They are unable to open the Document 10 files. How do i resolve this issue?

I am completely new to Scripting and I'm sure this is quite simple but I do not know where to start.I have a FM template that is populated with "raw" text from a database.Within the text are several characters (+, @, *, $, # and %).I need to replace these characters with symbols from a different font e.g.:Each instance of:"+" to be replaced with Wingdings 2 font - Lowercase t"@" to be replaced with Wingdings 2 font - Lowercase u"*"  to be replaced with Wingdings font - Uppercase E   etc.I would like to automate the process and believe a script would enable me to do this.I have tried looking on the forum, but can not find anything suitable to help me (or I'm looking in the wrong place).Any help would be greatly appreciated.CheersKev

I submitted below as a bug because it has now happened to both me and my colleague. I have copied below the same information from my bug report.Basic info: FM 9.0p.255, OS 64 bit, Windows 7We have just upgraded to the new version and this is a serious thing if you don't keep backups! You will never know when it is going to disappear.----------------Bug report:When working with a Framemaker document it is unexpectedly deleted with no reason from the computer/network - this includes the backup.The user did not delete it and it was an active document. There are different instances where the document would disappear. Below is one example of the steps taken. Steps to reproduce bug: 1. Opened FM file. 2. Saved as an MIF file.3. Closed FM file4. Opened MIF file.5. Edited the color definitions.5. Clicked save button to save the mif file back to the source fm file. I have 3 different master pages for each chapter of my book. I need to make different changes to each  master.   I know I can import the page layout from one master but when I do this the layout affects all 3 masters making them the same.  Is there a way to import masters individually?  For example, I want to import new layout of master page 1 to all the pages using master page 1 and import the new layout for master page 2 to all the pages using master page 2 and so on......   I am using FrameMaker 10.

I need to have my 128 page document paginated with "page x of y" format at the bottom of the page and have the pages display cumulatively .  I used the variables for Current Page and Page Count and set them up in the following sentence:  Page # of <$lastpagenum>  .  This has worked however, the Page Count variable is only counting the pages in each chapter and starts over at 1 at each chapter.  I need the pages to run cumulatively- for example Page 1 of 128 and Page 30 of 128 , etc.   Is this possible? My diagram is of the footer of a master page.  The 2 displayed after inputting the page Count variable.   I am using FrameMaker 10.

Hi everybody,I have read some useful threads here about this problem but I still can't seem to be able to resolve this leading dots issue for my TOC.I have already ensured that the reference page for all of my frame files in my Book have the same Reference page TOC entry. When I generate my TOC the leading dots are missing!I then open the Reference page for the TOC file as well and paste in the same TOC entries from my other frame files, and then update the book to regenerate the TOC.This also does not solve the problem.Any help resolving this issue would be really appreciated!Here are screen shots of my Reference page for my TOC(below). One thing that would be nice to have is a way to highlight a reference marker in Frame and go back to where the cross-reference  was created. The cross-reference could easily be in another section of  the book. I know you can do Special > List of  > References,  but when you are in the doc itself it would be nice to do. I assume in ExtendScript you would highlight the marker and then launch the ExtendScript snippet, since it shouldn't (I think) be too much code if you were on the marker (and the code would check that it was a marker). I added our company logo to the master pages of my document - using a .gif file. All looks good there and on the body pages.  When I pdf my document, the logo looks distorted.  Any idea what may cause this and what I can do to sharpen the logo?

Hello,I've been trying to do some xml publishing via Framemaker 9.I've created EDD, DTD, rules, structapps, CSS (style sheet), and template files to transition manuals from framemaker to xml. However some of the text I see in the xml file isn't formatted quite right. The element tags are there, but some of the text/paragraph tag formatting hasn't carried over.What I'm trying to figure out is if this means I have an issue in my rules file or in my stylesheet file? As anyone had a similar experience? I would appreciate any help and thanks in advance.

I am working with Adobe FrameMaker 8, on a book that uses footnotes.The footnote separator randomly (as far as I can tell) disappears from pages throughout the book. Master pages and reference pages are unchanged. Does anyone know how to make sure that the separator appears on every page?

I have several large books that contains 30 + documents each. Throughout the documents in these books a specific character format has been applied hundreds of times. I want to know if there is a way (short of writing a script) to remove the character tag throughout a book. I am familiar with how to find the tag using the Find tool and how to change it to the Default font using the character catalog. What I am looking for is a global solution.

When I delete a conditional text setting from every chapter in my book, it still shows up in the masterbook view of the View/Show/Hide Conditional Text... How do I remove it from there so it reflects the current conditional text definitions in the book?This has bugged me for YEARS. Please help! Thank you!

I have an SGML file that's based on a DTD that was created using another program. I'd like to migrate the SGML file over to FrameMaker.I was wondering:1) How do you convert a DTD to an EDD?2) How do I then create a file that's based on that EDD?3) Can an SGML file be somehow imported into FrameMaker?Thanks,

My Auto Numbering Image Format is working in 3 of my 12 chapers..  and it does not successfully work upon import, but it shows up with the same rules when double checked from FM  to FM.  Any one have this problemAny ideas

When I try to print from a book file to a ps file, the ps file has 0 kb, but no error messages. Frame 11. What can I try to fix this.

Any help is most welcome.Here's my current FM book's layout.For each page, I have 3 main elements in this order from top to bottom.     - An imported GRAPHICS inside an anchored frame.      - Below the anchored frame is the figure CAPTION (e.g. Figure 3. Title of the graphics here).     - Following the caption is some NOTES (description of the graphics)Goal: Insert/Paste the CAPTION of the next page onto the bottom of the current page after the NOTES section.Why: I'm converting from FM to RoboHelp. RH Requires a topic title for each page. Our current template does not have any heading text so I need to copy and paste the figure CAPTION to use as the heading text. How: At the end of each NOTES section of the current page, I like to copy/paste the CAPTION of the next page, with a specific paragraph tag

I used FrameMaker years ago and I always pressed <enter> to display the catalog of styles available at an insertion point. Using FrameMaker 11 now the <enter> key acts like it would in Word, that is, it creates a new paragraph or moves to the next line.Looking in the Adobe Frame user guide, it describes pressing enter to display the catalog also. Is it something they've configured at the place I'm working? Is it possible it's because it's a non-US keyboard? It's Dutch, almost exactly the same as US. Does anyone know how I can configure this in the settings?Thanks in advance,
