After generating a table of contents in InDesign (v. 18.1). I noticed that the page numbering is out of sequence. I've asked InDesign to include in the TOC all level 1 and level 2 heads. The generated table of contents lists everythng from the beginning of the document in linked text boxes, front to back, correctly. But after the highest page number, the numbers continue again, but from lower numbers. A good example included in my screen capture images is that there are two TOC entries on page 14, but then after that the TOC shows two entries for page 7. There are several 'sidebars' throughout the 18-page project file. The out-of-sequence page numbers all belong to H1 or H2 heads contained in those sidebars. So what InDesign is doing is listing all of the 'main' items first in the TOC, and then going through again and listing all of the sidebar H1 & H2 items. Is this a bug? Is there a fix? (Please see both attached screen capture images)I'm using a Macbook Pro on OS V
Hi,i wanted to share this indesign script i wrote. I would be happy if people give me feedback. The script finds and applies conditional combinations(!) of paragraph styles comfortably in almost any kind of selection. _____________DESCRIPTIONThis script is good for finding and replacing applied paragraph styles comfortably, especially for finding consecutive combinations of styles. I use it in early design phase to quickly try different typographical layouts and very often to change subheadings or the paragraphs following subheadings._____________SOME EXAMPLES- Simple case: find each paragraph with style 'X', change it to style 'Y' (less clicks than the find/change-dialog)- Conditional case: find each occurrance of 'Head followed by Sub' and change it to 'Head2 followed by Sub4'- Use the 'autoReverse'-setting to compare two style combinations back and forth quickly.- Use the 'quick test'-setting to do serial runs of layout variations: after a run it will a
Hello Adobe Community,I'm pleased to share my PDF export script with everyone. "exportPageRangesToPDF.jsx"https://github.com/MoebiusSt/exportPageRangesToPDF.jsx Description:This InDesign script (Adobe InDesign CC 19.5 currently) exports page ranges to separate PDFs. It provides a fast way to export multiple page ranges from your InDesign document to individual PDF files and reduces file-naming and handling for you. It's become my standart PDF export routine used daily. See screenshots attached. Version: v2.08, Date: 2025-08-11From Version 2.02 to 2.08: mostly bug fixes but one significant added feature is the ability to customize your pages prefix in the file naming schema. Features:Export multiple page ranges to individual PDFsSpecify export folder and PDF preset to useManually input page ranges and labels/identifiers for each rangeRetrieve a list of page ranges from:- Previously exported PDFs in the target direc
I'm using InDesign CC v15.0.1x64, Windows 10. When I create a new style and give it a paragraph rule (let's say Rule Below, 1pt, Black, Offset 0.125in), then when I go back to edit the style, the paragraph rule can't be edited. It shows as if there is no paragraph rule applied, yet it's right there. The Rule On checkbox becomes mysteriously unchecked but the rule is showing. If you click the checkbox on, it creates a new rule style over the existing one that can't be edited or deleted. I've tried creating new styles, creating new documents, restarting, rebooting, and nothing is solving the issue that I can't edit a Paragraph Rule after I create a style for it.
Problem:I'm working on an Arabic educational book using Adobe InDesign. The Arabic text includes full diacritics (tashkeel), and everything looks perfectly aligned inside text frames that are placed within decorative shapes. However, once I export the file to PDF, the diacritics become misaligned — especially when the text is inside shapes or grouped with other design elements.I've already tried the following:Enabled Adobe World-Ready Paragraph ComposerUsed supported Arabic fonts (like Adobe Arabic and Amiri)Ensured Right-to-Left paragraph directionDisabled Text WrapTried "Fit Frame to Content" and reset text frame options (zero inset spacing)Exported using "Embed All Fonts" and PDF/X-4 presetYet the issue persists: the diacritics shift or appear outside their intended positions when viewed in the exported PDF.✅ Text appears correctly inside InDesign❌ But gets distorted or misaligned in the final PDFHow can I preserve diacritic positioning exactly as shown in InDesign when
Hallo, is it possible to change the font used for creating mathematical expressions?
I'm trying to create something like the below for all the titles and possibly subtitles in a book. There is no way I'm aware of to do this using a paragraph style. At the moment I think my best bet would be to create all the titles in illustrator or photoshop and export them as pngs, then anchor them into the text boxes - especially as the line under the title text would need to be an anchored object too. Checking if anyone has a better, easier to edit way to do this? Maybe there is some crazy script out there that someone knows about or something. Or just a different way of going about it than the only one I can think of. Thanks!
I just updated my CC apps such as Ps, Ai, Id, etc. All seem fine with the exception of the current Id file on which I'm working that won't open. Other Id files open but not this one. It's some 87 MBs but I'm able to open other ones as large or larger.I had quit the app before updating. I have also since restarted my Mac.Any insights would be much appreciated.
I've got a 400-page document, one spread. There are several instances where I've applied a condition to one word or sentence. Since my INDD file is so large, I saved it as IDML to clean it up. When I resaved the IDML as INDD, the condition had been applied to several pages following a word or sentence that was conditional. It did do it everywhere, just a few places. I searched for the condition and reset things to unconditional, but I'd like to figure out why it happens, and maybe not have it happen again.
My InDesign display colors incorrectly than the exported PDF. Indesign showns more desaturated and pale.I have tried - turn off GPU preview; color setting to North America General Purpose 2 and s RGB; document setup to Web; Transparency blend to RGB; set swatches to RGB color; turn on and off proof colors but still doesn't work.
Note: Text frames are not linked to external sources.Video: Text frame reverts to unedited state
Last year Adobe released a version of InDesign (I think it was 17.2) that randomly wouldn't recognize particular fonts. The fix was to revert to an earlier version of InDesign until they release a bug fix version. It seems this has happened again with 18.1. I create a document in InDesign and send a proof to a customer. Several days later, the customer responds with changes to be made, I load the document into InDesign and it tells me one of the fonts I used is not available. I check to make sure it is activated in Connect Fonts, and sure enough it is. I de-activate and re-activate it several times for good measure. No dice. The font is active in other applications, but NOT InDesign--which is the only application I want it to be active in. This has happened a couple of times lately. Today's non-loadable font is called Apex New Bold. It's an Open Type font. What are your suggestions?
Good morning! My links panel is showing a modified link, but without any page number. I try relinking and it doesn't work. I wish I could delete it but I can't even do that. Any advice on how to fix this?I am afraid it's damaging my file, because I have got an alert about a damaged file. Thanks! <Title renamed by MOD>
Hiya - So I have a document with many hyperlinks that link to an anchor or a website. Unfortunatley these are not working. I did a test document - and when I made a new link - I was able to link the to page I need. However I am not able to change the link with the documents text. Any idea how to fix? I am attaching an indesign + Pdf - Youl will see that the link works on the lower text - but not on the underline text. This occurs many times thoughout the document so I am hoping for a fix for all fo them.
Hello, I'm trying to make a PDF document with pop-ups made directly in InDesign. This document will be viewed in-house and not online. Since this is my first time, I looked for how to do it in online tutorials. I managed to make one but when I add the following ones, I have display bugs. I followed all the steps and checked myself several times. Is it because it's a feature that is not yet stable with bugs or because it is designed more for online use?
Hi folks I'm using Paragraph Shading to create text boxes in a text frame, by intending the text left and right, and using a top and bottom offset of 1 x leading, and Space After/Before = 2 x leading. This works fine when the text box is contained entirely within a single text frame. But if the paragraph text occupies the first and/or last line in the text frame e.g. when it flows across multiple text frames, we have a problem. The only solution I can think of is to resize the text frames on those pages (moving the text frame top edge down by 1 x leading, or the bottom edge up by the same amount). But this cumbersome, and needs to be adjusted back if the text reflows. Parent Pages can help with this, of course, but still clunky. This is the result after adjusting the bottom edge of the text frame, which is the the layout I'm after (Paragraph Shading clipped to frame, and no text on bottom (or top line): Is there a way to achieve th
Hello everyone, I am trying to do an Adobe PDF INTERACTIVE doc for a project but each time that I export it, my 3 IMG loose of their quality, whereas on indesign, they are perfect.here are the pictures info: 1st IMG: -format: JPEG-Profile: RGB-actual PPI: 300-effective PPI: 300-dimension: 3000 x 2003 2nd IMG:-format: JPEG-Profile: RGB-actual PPI: 304-effective PPI: 361-dimension: 2003 x 3000 -format: JPEG-Profile: RGB-actual PPI: 300-effective PPI: 240-dimension: 3000 x 2003 Does anyone have an explanation, please?
Hello everyone,I have a MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) running macOS Catalina 10.15.7.The latest versions of InDesign in Creative Cloud are not compatible with my OS, and the "Other Versions" option is not available in my account.I urgently need to install InDesign 16.4 (or any 16.x version compatible with Catalina). If anyone still has access to the official .dmg installer for this version, could you please share the download link?I have an active Creative Cloud subscription, so I will activate the software legally - I only need the installer itself.Thank you in advance for your help!Best regards,Junna
Today suddenly, I can't see InDesign files or PDF files created from the same on the Finder. They are invisible. I can't see the docs if I go into InDesign, Open and try to find it; they don't show. If I go to "Recent", it can open them, save them, reopen them. But these new files don't show up on the finder. if I do "Save As", I can see the missing files in the folder. I was even able to move them, by mistake, into the DRAFTS folder. So the files are there but just invisible in most views. If I got to Outlook or another app to try and attach the PDF, I can't see it. I saved the PDF to the Desktop, and it is visible there. NOTE: On the attachments, you see in the Save As greyed out version, the _Rev1 files show up but not in the regular view. My setup: Mac OSX 15.6 (Updated today after I experienced this issue hoping it would resolve)MacBook Pro M4 Max My files save on MSoft OneDrive and are synced to the Cloud. Perhaps is a OneD
Can anyone recommend how to fix this? I'm missing stroke options in the advance workspace in Indesign, if i switch to essential they appear but I prefer to work with the advance option, I use to have them.I've attached screen shots.
So, I've placed Illustrator files into InDesign. The boxes they're placed in have no fill/stroke/transparency. The Ill files have white backgrounds. In ID there's no halo around the box - at first. Then they show up, and go away on restart, but then appear again.I'm using my GPU performance display - these are set to Typical. So, on the client's PC, these edges in their view of the Acrobat file are GIGANTIC as well as PERSISTENT.What gives? meaning, why are they there? If I put a white stroke (1pt) on the box they go away. What's the fix? How do I stop this cancer gnawing at the root of civilization etc.? I look forward to your collective, always sagacious, council - THANKS! -sno
Hi all,I'm designing a book in InDesign and after placing all the photos I'm going back and adding white borders to them. What I've noticed is, a 6 point white border is coming out different thickness on my photos based on the percentage of scaling I did to place the photo. E.g., a photo that I scaled down to 35% has a thinner border than a photo I scaled down to 85%. How do I get it where the thickness is uniform throughout the book and not tied to how I scaled the photo? Thanks!
