Does anybody know what this three-circle icon means or does? It appeared when I copied a grey rectangle and a textbox from one doc to another. I set up both docs from scratch, so it's not someone else's setup. Never seen it before in the decade or so I've been using indd... Any ideas?
I'm not talking about exporting it to a PDF. If someone else opens my file in a new computer, I want the images and the texts to be visible like the original. Is there a way to do this?
I'm trying to move the lines above experience and education in this InDesign template I downloaded. The template is File #: 236511150 on their stock website. The second image is of the master page where these lines do not appear. I have also included the layers panel, where only the text on the page is listed. I am unable to "unlock all on spread" or move them after clicking "override all parent page items". I'm stumped, thanks for all potential help!
Hi everyone, I'm doing this for the first time, so please excuse if this is an obvious question. Trying to export a 60-file book to EPUB, and I'm getting a missing font error: Minion Pro. I didn't even use this font in my layout, so I know it must be something coming over from one of the Word files I imported, and it's lurking in some random empty paragraph style somewhere. There is another one in there, Dubai font, which I replaced in all instances (it was my Heading 1, but I replaced it with Museo Sans) so I don't know why it is still in there. Both of these I need to ferret out. I can't seem to make Find/Replace work at the book level. I can't open the EPUB that was generated in Kindle because of the error. Can anyone help? I'm using InDesign on Windows, v. 20.4.1.
"All spreads cannot be hidden. At least one spread must remain unhidden." Is there a way to save this file? I can't drop the indesign file because it is too big, but I would be willing to send an email.
How can I make a new swatch grouping available to other files in InDesign?
I've been trying madly to find any version of the IDML (XML) specification online. I've found many resources, both Adobe and third parties, that reference this URL: https://wwwimages.adobe.com/content/dam/acom/en/devnet/indesign/sdk/cs6/idml/idml-specification.pdf ...but that now results in an error. For the life of me, after extensive searching, I cannot find any mirror of that document anywhere. It seems very strange, as it's supposed to be a public specification, and is used by several other software vendors. Past discussions also reference an 'IDML cookbook,' which may have also resided in the same place, but which is also now gone. Can anyone from Adobe -- or otherwise -- try to find a current link?
When exporting out of InDesign is there a way to make crop marks only 100% Black. Mine come out 100% of all colors and if I am running a 4 over Black job it sees page two a full color becasue of the crop marks? Thanks for any advise.
This seems to be a perennial issue for indesign. When I open the app it opens as large as the screen every time. Then I resize it and sure enough on relaunch its back to full screen. Its not world ending but its super annoying and appeared on the 2022 release. Please fix it. Also when is spell check that thing on computers since 1990 coming to this forum?
Hi everyone,I’m having a problem and would really appreciate your help.I have 5 separate InDesign files, one for each chapter of my book. I created a book by going to File -> New -> Book and added all 5 files.I already have the paragraph styles set up for the headings and subheadings that I want to appear in the Table of Contents. My question is: How can I generate a complete Table of Contents that gathers all the paragraph styles from every chapter in the book? When I try to generate a TOC, InDesign only seems to pull content from the first file, and it doesn’t include the rest of the chapters. What am I missing or doing wrong?Thank you so much in advance!

Hi eveyone, I have updated my computer and InDesign software recently and am having trouble with InDesign files. I have a mac mini m1 from 2020 and I'm working with InDesign 20.3.1. The computer only has 16GB memory so I save files onto a hard drive to save space and keep the computer running at a decent speed but my apps are on the computer hard drive.InDesign files open as read only and I cannot save them to the external drive. In newly created files, as soon as I save them to the external hard drive they become read only. I can save them to the hard drive and they are ok (not read only) but I am about to start working on a large book file with many images, figures and tables and don't want to clog up my hard drive with all of that.I have looked through past posts and there are quite a few from a few years ago but the workarounds were for PC's or earlier OS versions and didn't work for me.Can anyone help me please?
Hi all and I really need some help, please?I work on a Mac.I have been successfully getting correct epub validation through Draft to Digital for a few yewars now, but now that's stopped. I have been having a lot of problems with an Indesign file and getting the attached errors.I have been using eCanCrusher to expand my epub to elimate the 'encription' file (which use to cause errors in the past) then I would validate it, and it's good to go. Now, after that process, and even without it, I'm getting the attached errors. Can someone please provide some advice?I don't know how to fix the 'Missing: 6' warningandThe long list of 'href' errors I believe is related to incorrect hyperlinks? I have redone them =several times and there is no change. I have also created a new fresh Indesign Document and tried again, but the same thing happens. Is th eonly answer to start xcompletely again from scratch and rebuild the Indesign file from raw text, and try that? Many thanks.
Hi everyone, I am experiencing this issue: when exporting my Indesign document as interactive PDF, the buttons and interactive elements works perfectly in Preview (Mac), but when the pdf is opened in Acrobat I get visible black dotted outlines/bounding box borders (i.e. the 'borders' of the buttons as set up in original Indesign file) in the interactive PDF. It is really annoying and I have tried many different iterations/settings in Indesign to troubleshoot, but every time it's the same - perfect (no borders, interactivity works 100%) in Preview on Mac, but when I open the file in Acrobat, the Buttons bounding box borders show up as dotted black outlines. I need these borders to not be visible when random reader/viewers open the PDF on their computers (as I have no idea what pdf viewer they may have installed, or whether they have Mac (Preview) or Windows/Acrobat etc) - so I need the PDF to view correctly, without the dotted outline "bounding box" borders when opened on
Hi, InDesign is not allowing me to save any document. I thought one of my files might be causing the issue but I have tried to create a new document with dummy text and I'm getting the same error.
As you can see the spreads can't be numbered in a sequence. The arrows that I drew between spreads indicate they're printed on the other side. So; 12, 1, 2 and 11 are a single spread. 10, 3, 4 and 9 another and so on. As far as I can tell, there's no settings to make this automated. If that's the case, I'd like to know a better way to do it than manually
I'm creating a book index, entering all the topics first before I begin to mark references. Some main topics have multiple sub-topic level-1 entries. I can create these "by hand" by typing the main topic, typing one sub-topic, and entering, repeating the process for as many times as I have sub-topics. Is there a way to enter multiple sub-topics under the main topic at one time, separated by some sort of marker that InDesign recognizes as a "new line" character in the sub-topic list? For example, one main topic is Abstention. It has five level-1 subtopics: Burford, Colorado River, Pullman, Thibodaux, and Younger. Below is a sample of what I'm trying to do: Main topic: AbstentionSub-topic: Burford [new line], Colorado River [new line], Pullman [new line], Thibodaux [new line], Younger [new line] So that when I generate the index, it would line up like this:***********************************************************************Abstention &nbs
To quote Adobe: "Now every document will remember its last export format."In our experience this has not been working at all. As far as we can tell, InDesign simply remembers the last exported format and applies that to whatever the next document you work on is. This is the behaviour InDesign has always had… and a frustrating behaviour it is too! This is not what we understood the feature to be. The feature appeared to be promoted as the last export setting of an individual document being remembered by that document and travelling with it. So if I, or anyone else, open that same document in a months time I can export it and it will export with exactly the same settings as it did previously. If this could work it would be very useful.Or are we misunderstanding what this feature is supposed to do?
Hi everyone,I'm experiencing an issue with InDesign's Publish Online feature with New links and Updating Existing links– When publishing a new document, the option to download as a PDF appears, but clicking it opens a new window with a "[Not Found]" text in the top left of the browser. When updating older published links, the same issue occurs. This is a new (to me) issue, and I haven't changed anything in my process (that I’m aware of). Troubleshooting Steps I've Tried:Uninstalling and reinstalling InDesignChecking for software updates (Mac OS) Ive attached a video ref (speed up the uploading time) to show exactly what I mean. I also reached out to Adobe Support via chat twice, but the chat ended with no response.I have also read the following threads and tried to implement changes based on the 'solved result' but dont feel like I have a clear answer, or I might just not understand? Thread 1Thread 2Thread 3Thread 4 I rely on Publ
I have this black border around each page, and it prints out. I NEED IT TO GO AWAY. I've tried several options, including reducing stroke to 0. Suggestions VERY welcome.
I would like to add an export range to the script for exporting pdfs. There are a lot of scripts on the internet for exporting pdf's, and it seems that they can only call templates, and do not set the export page.Is there similar information can be recommended to me?
Has anyone researched how images or frames fit across pages (including bleed)Not many, it seems.I couldn't find any references.
Hi there![Windows 11 Pro] Any chance that I could keep my Workspace Prefs while switching from an old computer to a new one? Would also be a switch from ID 19.5.4 x64 to 20.5 x64.Thanks
Uncertain if this a question or feature request. Basically I have this problem with alt+scroll: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/how-can-i-stop-the-alt-key-from-activating-the-application-bar-windows-11/td-p/14426715 https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/zoom-using-alt-scroll-wheel/m-p/10495434 Whenever I use the alt key with scroll to zoom, the top menu becomes underlined. That's a built in windows fetaure from the days before mice. The difficulty is, if I then press V for Selection, it instead opens the View menu. I have to be careful to hit escape after zooming this way, which is inconvenient. However. I notice this does not happen in Illustrator or Photoshop. In those the menu underlining occurs only whilst the alt+scroll keys are down, it ends immediately on key-up. If I tap the alt key on its own the underlining persists, which is fine and I think the expected behaviour. Although in some software (Acrobat) alt doesn't underlin
Hello, I’m working with an InDesign file that contains duotone images—one 100% black channel and one additional Pantone spot color (Pantone Black Process). In previous versions of InDesign, exporting to PDF for print preserved only the Black and Pantone plates, without generating any CMY separations. Since updating to the latest version, the exported PDF now includes CMY plates as well, which shouldn’t happen...! Could you help me understand what’s causing this and how to ensure only the Black and Pantone channels are used in the PDF output? Thank you,F.
