Is [[:punct:]] the only representation of punctuation proper? Is there a simpler one?
Hi! I'm very new to GREP styles but created one so that all numbers in this paragraph style are bolded. In many cases, some numbers are superscripted. I do NOT want superscripted numbers to be bold. How can I fix this? Thanks in advance 🙂
1. Do it in Inkscape2. save as svg3. Import into InDesignDo you guys use your software or are you just selling it?
I'm having issues (again!) with certain settings in InDesign panels not working. For example, when trying to change the font in the Character panel, it shows a preview of the font as I scroll through them but when I click on the one I want it switches back to the previous font. I'm having the same issue with the stroke weight. The only way to change these parameters is in the Control Panel at the top of the window. I've had this issue before and then it simply went away, presumably thanks to an update, but now it's back again. There's a similar issue with the Tint in the Swatches panel. When I try to use the slider to adjust the tint it closes the panel immediately. The only way to adjust it is to enter the number manually. We really need a fix for this! I'm using InDesign version 18.5 on a Mac Studio with M1 Max processor and macOS 13.5.2.
I added several Adobe fonts from the family AgencyFB, and then used three of them (Bold, BoldWide, and BlackWide) in an InDesign document. A day or so later, InDesign started claiming that the Bold version is missing, but it's definitely not. I removed and re-added it on the Adobe Fonts page, but there was no change in InDesign. I can still choose that font variation in the pulldown, and InDesign will render it properly and even embed it in exported PDFs, while continuing to claim it's missing! I did notice that in the list of embedded fonts in the PDF, Bold is rumored to be TrueType while BoldWide and BlackWide are Type 1 Open Type - it seems unlikely that different fonts in the same family would be different types, so that got my attention. In InDesign's Find/Replace Font dialog, the More Info area says the font is supposed to be OpenType CFF, not TrueType, so that's definitely odd. What should I do to try and fix this? Here are three screenshots to support what I just wrote: (1
~k is a discretionary Line Break, I've tried it but I don't know what it's used for. \K is something I learned last year, what is it called, backwards? I've read a couple of postings, maybe it's a language difference, and haven't been able to understand the same yet.I've just been depressed as to why (? <=\d). works, but (? <=\d+). can't be realized.\K is used to solve the problem of "(? <=\d+)."? Thanks
Set up CC Libraries for a client a couple of years ago now. Assest uncluded logos and icons created in Adobe Illustrator. Previously, when the images were placed into InDesign the images retained transparent backgrounds. Now when I import directly into InDesign from CC Libraries, the images do not retain their transparent backgrounds. These are vector images of logos and icons that are now showing up with white backgrounds even when I export to print or PDF, still there. I can manually place the images (Ai eps files) into InDesign with no issue. Tried to edit the files and save them into the latest format of Ai but to no avail. Older InDesign files utilizing the CC Library assets still work but not new documents.
HelloI have a doubt about how may I control the space that, by default, Indesign apply to the frames when I am creating a new frame and I press the arrow keys to select multiple rows and columns, hence creating new frames.I don't know if I am explaining this well.Let's take it with an example.I create a frame with the frame tool... so I click with the mouse and start to drag the frameI DO NOT REMOVE THE FINGER FROM THE MOUSE...And I press the arrow keys... now you see Indesign is creating files (up and down keys) or columns (left and right keys). When those frames are created, you see Indesign apply a space among them, which by default, has a measure in inches or millimiters.Well, I want to control that quantity of space among frames. How may I control this?If I did not explain this well, please, let me know and I will try again with a picture.Cheers
Ive got strange issue I've never encountered before. I had a TOC misbehaving (with regard to the bookmarks it made). So used the Book function to import the TOC style from a properly behaving document. On the surface, the bookmarks structure is correct, but under the hood, the Level 1 bookmark now points to the wrong document (the one I imported the TOC style from). So when I export the PDF, that bookmark doesn't work, and it just takes the user to the first page in the document. Is there a way to relink a bookmark within InDesign, as part of an automatically generated TOC? Or does someone know where this information exists that I might be able to edit the destination with some sort of script?
Can someone tell me if these boxes are relevant, and need to be checked on. And what do they do exactly? See screenshot. Thakns in advance.
I have a number of shapes in a group as part of a design. I wish to adjust the position of several group elements as follows:1. Double click the group to open it2. SHIFT+click the desired objectsThis is OK for the first two objects, but when I SHIFT+click the third object, all selected objects are deselected, and the parent group becomes selected.I can unselect individual objects if 2+ are selected, using the same method. This happens with 100% consistency. The objects can be selected as normal by meatballing them in the Layers panel.Indesign 13.1 x64 on Windows 7 x64 ProIs this a known bug? Will file as usual anyway.ThanksRichard
As part of my workflow I am often changing the layer visibility options on some (but not all) instances of the same object. I was looking at the batch_layer_visibility script by crazypanda and it almost does what I need, but it can only change every instance without finer control. Does anyone know of another existing script where you could either select just the objects you want to change, or apply the change to a specific range of pages? Or know how to modify this one to do this/have tips on how I could do it? I have some baseline scripting knowledge but I haven't made anything for indesign before. here's a link to the one I'm using now. Thanks!
Ein Text in InDesign ist mit fünf Überschriftenebenen (A. I. 1. a) aa)) gegliedert. A. I. 1. a)) verweisen. Wie kann man das bewerkstelligen?
Hi. I have a pricelist which is set up in Indesign with item no. In a separate Excel file, I have the prices which I wish to match up with the correct item no.The list of prices is not sortet chronologically so that it matches the layout of the indesign file. Is there any way that I can do this automatically, or do I need to type in the prices manually?Thank you. <Title renamed by MOD>
How can I link section titles to the Table of Contents in InDesign? I’ve set up multiple sections in my document using section markers, and I want each section title to appear automatically in the TOC. However, they’re not showing up when I generate it. Am I missing a style setting or specific step to include section markers or titles in the TOC? Any guidance on how to properly structure this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
It seems pretty common to have a name for each section of a document, but I can't find any way to specify a variable whose value can change by section. How does one do this?
A few times a week I experience instability with Indesign. For example, I just had to close the program because when I clicked File>New>Document the new doc window that opens would not allow me to select any options and would not create a new doc when I clicked the button. I couldn't select 'CLOSE' either. Indesign became complete locked up because the 'New Document' window stayed open and I couldn't close it without a force quit. This occurs randonly and not just when creating a new document. I could be working on a job I've had opened all day and it will become unresponsive. There are times where I get odd color blocks showing up in my layout but its just on screen. This only happens when I work in Indesign.I want to go back to a more stable version but I've already created so much in version 20.2 and sometimes I get reverse-compatability issues. Anyone else have issues with an unresponsive UI?
I'm having trouble with paragraph styles in InDesign not updating across the entire document when I make changes. I've modified a style, but only some text reflects the update, while others remain unchanged even though they're supposedly using the same style. Is there a reason why this happens, and how can I ensure all instances update properly? I'm using InDesign 2024 on Windows. Any help is appreciated!
Is there a way to edit publish online files/links in the team. I only see the possibility for me alone but not my whole adobe team?
Hi all, I've got a new macbook book and updated all my adobe apps, but the colour books aren't showing pantone swatches. Thanks for any help! .
Color settings are displayed as synchronized. Working color spaces RGB: eciRGV v2, CMYK: PSO Coated v3 are defined in the setting. However, Indesign 2025 loses these “global” settings. Instead, newly created documents use other working color spaces... <Title renamed by MOD>
I'm working on a large document (200+ pages) and want to use GREP styles to automate formatting, such as applying character styles to dates, numbers, or specific patterns. However, I'm concerned about potential performance issues or unintended formatting. Are there any tips or best practices for setting up GREP styles efficiently in long documents? Should I limit their use, or are there specific patterns that are known to cause slowdowns?
Hi allHope you can help with the below. I am working with EasyCatalog plugin for InDesign and am trying to extract certain data from a cell with a function in a Custom Field Options. This is the usual data in the cell: <p>Yarn: 100% New Zealand Thin Wool or Tencel</p> <p>– Primary backing: 100% Polyester</p> <p>– Backing: 100% Polyester</p> <p>– Pile Height: 16mm</p> I need to extract "Pile Height: (and the numbers) ". I spend the last 2 days reading about REGEX expressions etc. and I can't manage to do that no matter how I try. Could someone have any ideas? Many thanks!Miro.
