InDesign

Hi everyone,In my book layout, I have action steps sections. These sections are designed with two line to clearly indicate where an action step starts and ends. They are set up using a paragraph style. However, for some reason, in one chapter file, the distance between the line and the table appears different from the others. When I paste one of them into another chapter file, it adjusts to match that file’s formatting. I want the spacing to be consistent across all chapters but can't figure out why it changes in a different file.I attached two example ID file. Thank you very much!   

Hi,i am creating an interactive digital magazine with indesign and have paid for the in5 plugin. I want to know what is the cheapest, easiest and best way to publish my magazine online. I only need it to be online for 1 month for college so i dont want to buy a subscription service that youre tied into for a year. I would love a custom domain but if that isnt possible for cheap then thats okay too. please someone let me know! -Keylah 

Tables - can be ANY quantity / size:     This script - modifying ROWS: app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().tables.everyItem().rows.everyItem().autoGrow = false; app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().tables.everyItem().rows.everyItem().height = 2; app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().tables.everyItem().rows.everyItem().autoGrow = true; Will return this:   LAST row in the LAST Table in EVERY Story will ALWAYS be higher than the rest:   But this - modifying CELLS: app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().tables.everyItem().cells.everyItem().autoGrow = false; app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().tables.everyItem().cells.everyItem().height = 2; app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().tables.everyItem().cells.everyItem().autoGrow = true; Will ALWAYS return the correct result:      Plain tables - no header / footer.  

When I placed a b/w dither PDF into InDesign, I now have black, white and gray dots!  Why does that happen?  I don't want the gray dots.  Help!! 

Bonjour à tous, J'ai une problématique assez bizarre : Lorsque mon ouvrage que je mets en page sur Indesign 20.1, dépasse les 99 pages, les numéros de pages à 3 chiffres, affichent le 3e chiffres différement, pour explication voir la capture d'écran.En l'occurence dans mes ouvrages j'ai une maquette avec des numéros de pages en elzéviriens tabulaires, et bien le 3e s'affiche en aligné !j'ai testé plusieurs choses : un style de caractère à mes folios, un style de paragraphe avec style grep sur les chiffres....Si vous avez la solution je suis preneuse, sinon je vais devoir reprendre manuellement 348 pages 😞 

Bonjour !Je débute sur une Indesign et je galère avec les notes de bas de page.J'ai bien décoché l'option et pourtant les numéros de bas de page reparte de 1 à chaque page de mon document ( qui en fait 120...) J'ai essayé manuellement de le faire commencer page par page à un autre numéro mais cela s'applique cette fois pour toutes les pages.Je n'ai pas trouvé de réponses dans le forum. Quelqu'un peut-il m'aider svp ?D'avance merci !

Hello all!I work with Acrobat and Indesign since more than 15 years and never had this effect. There is a one page PDF which was originally exported in A4, then cropped to only show a graphic that is on the page. The page also contains text.  Then it was placed in Indesign, with the boundary box active, so it would also only show the graphic. Then the INDD was exported as PDF. In that final PDF I can search and find text that was used in the placed PDF, but the text neither shows in Acrobat when viewing the PDF nor it can be selected when switching to edit mode. It's only sort of selected when jumping from find result to find result. All that was around the graphics on the cropped and placed PDF is still there, but remains hidden and cannot even be found/highlighted using the content panel. Is this normal?

Hello, i noticed some strange behaviour of the Book Preflight panel. While it shows the current working preflight profile as selected, it will instead use InDesigns [Basic] preflight profile. To actually use your desired preflight profile, you have to open the list of profiles and select it (again). Even though it already shows as selected. To reproduce this error, i duplicated the [Basic] preflight profile, named it "Test Check" and additionally disallowed RGB color under COLOR > Color Spaces and Modes Not Allowed > RGB. I then selected it as working profile in the preflight settings. I then set up a 4 page book file (link to the files below), consisting of 4 seperate InDesign documents, one of them containing an RGB filled object. When i open the books preflight panel, it shows the previously set up working profile as a selected, but won't use it. It will use InDesigns [Basic] profile, which doesn't contain the RGB color check. So the documents all finish checkin

Does anyone know of any way to change the line type of a shape or line in InDesign to give it a more sketchy hand drawn quality, similar to the powerpoint sketchy line tool, and not the pencil tool which is hard to edit? 

Ich muss global in einem Dokument die Zellenhöhe aller Tabellen auf eine Mindesthöhe setzen, ist aktuell bei einem festen Wert und verursacht Übersatztext. Diese Option ist leider weder im Tabellenformat noch im Zellenformat einzustellen, es geht nur, wenn man eine einzelne Tabelle erstellt oder bearbeitet. Gibt es hier ein Scrpit o.ä., was die Mindesthöhe auch in die Formatvorlagen schreiben kann? Danke und VG Anna

Hi, in InDesign, I am trying to change the background color of the white frames to the green background colour you’ll see on the page. So I select the frame – see top left as example. Then I set the CMYK values for the green in the CMYK boxes and select OK. But in my 10 or so attempts, the frames stay white. ISo I tried to change the swatch in the swatch panel. You can see over in the text box my three attempts but it is ignoring the numbers I have put up and coming up with three random alternatives – see swatch panel on right. The same thing happens when I try to add a swatch in the text panel. It just ignores the numbers I am entering. I have restarted InDesign in case there’s a temporary bug.  

La universidad tiene licencia para todos los programas de adobe, pero cuando me voy a descargar indesign me sale que no es compatible con mi despositivo. El ordenador tiene la ultima actualizacion y ya lo he tenido descargado antes con la version gratuita de 7 dias. En cuanto se me acabo lo borre, se me hace raro que no me deje descargarlo

I want to have multiple lists in the same text frame, and I want each of them to start at 1. I can't figure out how to do that.

As of yesterday, I have been unable to open any of my InDesign files saved in the Adobe Cloud that are larger than 10MB and I have tried opening them on different computers. When I go to the Creative Cloud desktop app and try to download them, when they are on the desktop and I select 'Get Info', they are 0 bytes.  I have gone through every troubleshooting option I've seen available and have yet to find a solution to this. This is rather important as I have hundreds of hours of work saved In the Adobe Cloud on InDesign that I need for my master's assignment due in 6 weeks... P.S. I have uninstalled/reinstalled, cleared the cache, restarted everything, etc.I have a MacBook Pro 16-inch 2021 with 16GB memory for reference.

Hi there! I've seen a bunch of posts on this issue, but most of them advise to fix it in Acrobat Pro. My problem is I ONLY have InDesign 2025 (v20.1 x64) I've set the tab order by:Object ... Interactive ... Set Tab OrderWindow ... ArticlesThe form layers (ordering the fields top to bottom) None of these are working when I export the form.  Sometimes the tab order breaks down after the first 7 or 8 fields, sometimes less. I am checking the "Use Structure for Tab Order" when exporting. Can anyone assist? (please do NOT tell me to do it in Acrobat 😂)

I received a new template for a newsletter in InDesign CC 2015 and the text will only sit on lines. If I try to nudge a text box up or down, the text disappears and will only appear again if it reaches another line. How do I stop this?

I am on the latest version of Adobe InDesign, 20.2, on a Win11 machine which also has the latest updates.  The ASUS software is also up to date.      When I type in a document, the text that is already there can randomly disappear, and then re-appear.  It might be a line, a paragraph or the entire page that disappears.  When I switch away from InDesign to another program and then switch back the text may not return.  I can highlight the missing text to copy & paste, but that action alone doesn’t bring the text back.   I am using a pretty powerful, new machine, an ASUS ProArt 13, so it should not be a question of memory etc, at least I hope not!   <Title renamed by moderator>

System configWindows XIMS office: latest versionPublishing sofware: Adobe InDesign (2025 latest version) Issue faced: We have 2 documents doc and docx. Same document and different format of word (doc and docx).Scenario 1: DocIf I flowed the doc file in InDesign there is no issue. I got the correct character style no extra style is there. Please refer the below screen shot there is only 1 character style "Strong"  Scenario 2: DocXIf I flowed the docx file in InDesign i am facing  issue there is some extra character style with unnamed character style please refer the below screenshot.  If we right click shows "^1" it seems to be junk stylePlease let us know why this issue arising between doc and docx file. I attached doc and docx file for your analysis.  

Hi all, I can select all objects on Indesign pages but Indesign does not show me the just selected item till I do go out with the mouse pointer; when out with the pointer Indesign show me the selected object correctly.This happen on all document and also in a new created document.What I try to solve the matter:I reset the Indesign preferencesI also formtat the drive and re-install MacOS and install only Indesign and Creative Cloude Environment:MacOSX 15.3.1 MacStudio M1 Note:On my other MacBook Air M2 with all the same MacOSX and Indesign version the problem does not exist. Any help is welcomeThank for reply 

I recently got new monitors. Ever since I've been having this issue where ONLY IN INDESIGN, I am unable to move objects with the direct selection tool where I want them to go. If I try, the object will jump across the screen or refuse to move all together. Nothing is locked. This happens for any kind of object in all documents. Sometimes when I try to move something, it randomly creates "snippets" on my desktop as well. I can use the arrow keys still to move objects around. I seem to be getting a similar error anytime I try to click and drag anything. For example, duplicating a page by dragging the page down to the + "Create new page" button at the bottom of my pages window or duplicating a swatch in a similar fashion in the swatches panel. I can right-click and still duplicate both. It's only when I drag that I get a red error circle. This problem was ONLY OCCURRING when I had Indesign on the monitor's screen. It was working fine if I moved it over to my laptop screen.   A tem

Hi,I'm trying to create an Indesign TOC which displays in a specific format depending on which paragraph style it is picking up (chapter or heading). I've created styles within my TOC, which are based on a basic paragraph style which is contained outside of the TOC group. The TOC chapter / heading paragraph styles then contain a slight variation in tab and font. Whilst these displayed as expected, as soon as i update the contents page, all of this is lost and the various headings/chapters revert to the formatting used within the document.I have a previous document i've based this off which shows it working, and i can't see any differences in the set-up. When i tried copying the old TOC style into my new document, the same issue arises. This doesn't include nesting, etc, which I don't really know how to use.If anyone knows where i'm going wrong, please let me know.

For some reason this happens to me often... the characters will be inconsistently in proportional oldstyle. Any suggestions?

Hello!    I am using Data Merge to populate things in a text field. I also need to set the Fill Color of the text field. Just basic color coding and organization.     I added a "COLOR" column to the CSV and want to use the terms in the column to trigger different Fill Colors, Object Styles, etc. I cannot find how to assign the "COLOR" column to any of these things inside of InDesign though…     <Title renamed by MOD>
