InDesign

My organization needs the ability to rasterize all pages in a document when exporting to a Fixed Layout EPUB.  InDesign currently only supports rasterizing the first page or individual objects. Neither of these are sufficient for our needs. We publish graphic novels with complex, overlapping design elements, and we need the pages to look exactly as they do in regular PNG exports.  Our current workaround is to export PNG's from InDesign, and then use an additional software to assemble the images into an EPUB, which is incredibly time-consuming.

We create print PDF's from InDesign files. If there is an error we are unable to replace the original PDF. It says the file is in use, it is not selected and it is not open. We are unable to delete the file also. We have to go to another computer and delete the file from our smb server, shut down both computers and then redo the PDF. Can someone tell me what is causing the file to get stuck in our systems?

If my document is on text reflow and I'm placing a lot of text, why is it only placing on the first page (with the red arrow - I can manualy paste it on each next page, but there's for sure a way to get it automacaly on all pages!)Please reply!

Ich habe ein teures, ärgerliches Indesign-Problem und möchte das mit Euch teilen: Wenn ich in Indesign einen Textrahmen erstelle und den Text in Zeichenwege umwandle (um die Pfade zu bearbeiten), wird das Objekt automatisch und ohne Hinweis auf "Überdrucken" gestellt.  Das passiert aber nur, wenn der umgewandelte Text schwarz ist. Bei jeder anderen Farbe wird Überdrucken nicht automatisch aktiviert.  Wenn man wie ich das kleine Fenster "Attribute" noch nie geöffnet hat, sieht man das Ergebnis dieses Effekts, wenn ein zurecht aufgebrachter Kunde Fotos von gedruckten Anzeigen schickt, in denen die Hälfte seines Logos verschwunden ist, weil der hellblaue Teil auf schwarzem Hintergrund überdruckt wurde. Das ist ein entsetzlich peinlicher Fehler, der mir in 30 Jahren und vielen tausend Print-Dokumenten noch nie passiert ist.  Meine Frage an Euch: Ist das mein Fehler oder ein Indesign-Bug? How can I get away this thing that my pages are adding to the previous spread, instead of a new one?

Hi i'm currently working on a indesign big document, that requires a small list on every page.The list is generated from the sub-section headings in the document. like a section table of contents.1. Brand  1.1 Logo  1.2 Exclusion zone  1.3 Colours  1.4 TypographyWe want to show the sub-headings in a list (1.1 to 1.4) on every page in the chapter.Is there a way to have a text box which is automatically populated from the list, and even better, highlights the current sub-heading of the page?I've tried doing a TOC, and using the paragraph style of the link, but it means i have to highlight the current page with a separate style, and it also means i have update each one individually if something changes. I don't know much about scripting, but am wondering if this is something indesign can do or if its something there could be a script for.

Olá. Eu estou tentando criar uma pagina de index com a referencia de produto e a pagina. Estava fazendo usando cross-reference ou referencia cruzada porém eu preciso selecionar referencia por referencia para funcionar. Existe uma forma de fazer todas as referencias puxarem a pagina automaticamente?  As referencias estão organizadas em ordem crescente por isso as paginas estão misturadas mas quero manter esse formato para facilitar a busca ja que é um documento impresso.  Obrigado 

Hi! I have this line:"sleeves—another flat surface, invoking Johns once again—, allowing" and indesign is breaking the "—," which i'd like to keep together. Can't put a n-break space since I don't want any space, and there doesn't seem to be an opposite to the invisible non-joiner (which would be ideal...). It seems I might be able to do this with GREP, but i've never used it before so I don't really know where to start. I'd love some help!Also if any of you guys have any easy grep tutorials / introduction to grep, i'd be very grateful. I'd like to learn how to use it.  Thanks 🙂  

Hi there, Is there a way for me to seamlessly embed animations made from After Effects into InDesign? Preferably without the playback controls at all. I'm wanting to animate a masthead design and the animations on InDesign are very limited. I have done the following:Created an animation on After EffectsUsed Media Encoder to export the animation as an .MP4.Embedded the .MP4 file into InDesignPublished Online. The video plays fine but there's a couple of issues:1. The playback controls are always there.2. The video has a solid background even though I toggled the Transparency Grid off on After Effects. I'm wanting the masthead to animate automatically on the page load and then remain there whilst the user is on that page - if this makes sense? Thanks!

I have created a 50 page master document and I want to save some pages individually as PDFs. For example, I want to export pages 38-40 as a PDF. Previously in CS5 I could just File > Export and then select the page range. However, I've just upgraded to Indesign 2020 and can't find a way to specify the page range. When I select "Range" it only has the option "All Pages". In CS5 I could manually type in the page number range that I wanted to export. Thank you!     {Renamed by MOD}

Hi, I have a c.60 page report and my client wants to have 'links' or 'go to' sections within the document.For example, a piece of text highlighted on page 3, needs to be clickable to 'go-to' an explanation on page say 56. And back again 🙂 There are also external 'hyperlinks' and I'm aware that I can easily make those using 'Window -> Interactive -> Hyperlinks' Are there any tutorials / is there any information I could access which would help me achieve this? Thanks for any advice.

Hey all, I have two InDesign files. The first file displays and exports to a PDF perfectly, and when i went to start a new file, the image i copied and pasted from the orginal file is displaying as washed out and faded. My tranparency blend space is set to RGB in both and the colour settings on both files appear to be identical. The output setting I use to export a PDF were also identical yet the colour discrepancy showed in the PDFs.  Are there settings somewhere else other than 'colour settings' and 'transparency blend space' that I am not aware of? Please help me understand this. 

I am on an Apple M4, Sequoia 15.1.1, using Adobe InDesign, 20.0.1 (1998-2024). I had no problems saving my original file, and exporting it to PDF. However, when I made changes, the changes never got saved. After a day of making changes over and over, and not seeing them, I kluged it by doing a Save As with a different name. Only then were my changes saved. Now I have to do that every time: Make a change, do a Save as with a different name, and export to PDF. This doesn't sound right.

Running into an interesting issue: Create Guides isn't working. I'm trying to create a 3-column grid layout for a web document (1920 x 1080), but the Create Guides feature doesn't show anything when I try altering the settings. I have checked all my view settings to make sure guides are visible... all good. Is it because I'm working in a web setting? I tried creating a new print document and the Create Guides command worked there. Odd that it wouldn't work across the board no matter color space or file specs I'm using. Any suggestions?

I am using the latest 2025 Indesign (together with Photoshop, Illustrator - (All Apps)Just recently, suddenly, I am not able to move any text box or image with the selection tool. When I drag it a red circle appearswith a line through it. I then have to use the arrow keys to move the type or image.There is nothing locked in the document. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice and that has not fixed the problem!! This is driving me out of my mind!!KInd regardsLinda bartlett

How can I get a grep style to be applied before the tab spacing?

I'm reusing an InDesign (2015) document that had many images linked. Those images are gone forever, but the missing links are still in the Links panel. I just want to remove those linked images from the Links panel.The images or the linked images do not exist in the document structure. There must be a way to remove these useless orphaned linked images from the Links panel.Thanks!

Hello everyone!I have a text with Chapters and verses in each chapter.I'm trying to put the Chapter number at the beginning of each verse using Find and Change with GREP expression: Search: (%)(\d+)(&)(?s)\w*.*?\K( \d+)(~S)Change for: $5@$2$6Each chapter number is between a hidden symbol % and &. The problem is that sometimes Indesign puts the first chapter number instead of the closest previous one.How can I make it take the nearest chapter number (%\d+&)?Any idea? I have removed \K from the GREP expression to see the selection without making changes. And I can see how it selects from the number Chapter1 to verse15 of Chapter 3. Instead of selecting from Chapter 3. Thanks!!!

Hello! Newbie designer here. I’ve been working with InDesign for about a year, and this is the first time I’ve run into this problem. I’m using the font Charter (12 pt) and have noticed an issue with italics: depending on the software and the zoom setting, certain italicized letters lose strokes and definition on the screen. The biggest culprits are uppercase A, B, D, and lowercase S, but there are subtler losses depending on the viewing parameters. I’ve attached some screenshot examples (obvious problem spots are marked with red).  Acrobat, used to view the print quality PDF, seems unable to render the italics correctly unless zoomed in to about 1,000 percent. InDesign needs to be at about 240%. For comparison, the issue doesn’t happen at all on Preview. The issue also doesn’t happen when the document is printed (even when printed from Acrobat). Two questions: Do I need to worry about this font printing correctly when I upload the print quality PDF for print o

A "bug" where the page size in InDesign unexpectedly changes while setting up a new document, often reverting back to a previous size, causing the document to revert to a different size when you try to change it; having to set the page size multiple times until it sticks. Potential issue with the software where the selected page size isn't properly registering?

Hello,  I am working on a project where multiple files have individual QR codes. The layout of each file stems from a template I made. For some odd reason, a majority of these files' QR codes do NOT work properly. When clicked on through Adobe Acrobt, they all seem to go to a certain link. However, when scanned via your phone, it goes to the proper link. Within InDesign, the links appear correct. Can someone tell me why it keeps taking us to the improper link on Adobe Acrobat? This is how the majority of our viewers will interact with the QR Code, so we desperately need it to work properly. Is this an InDesign issue or Adobe issue? Any info is welcome. Thanks! 

I’m using InDesign 2025. When I export a file to PDF, the interactive check boxes and text fields are highlighted in light blue. How do I turn off the highlighting? Thank you.

Hi, I am writing a guidebook for climbing. I received a very detailed vector map for the area that I will use to describe approaches to different mountains.The idea is that I only use parts of that big map depending on which area/mountain I'm describing. Now I make frames, place the pdf from the map and then zoom in untill I find the desired area. What I'm wondering about is how I can scale all maps the same. So basically can you preset the "zoom" level in different frames that use the same link, but maybe have a different size? Thanks a lot!

I made seval Hyperlinks with Indesign with the setting <Jump to page>. After exporting as interactive PDF all hyperlinks are built with the setting <Use Named Designation>.An example: Go to a page in the documentDestination name: DOCUMENT_NAME.INDD:4424:29What I need instead is the setting "Use Page Number". Because the system of our customer works only with this type of hyperlinks. Not with these 4424:29 - Style ...What can I do? Another Link-Style in Indesign? A javascript in Acrobat to change the hyperlink-setting in the complete document? There are >100 links, so a manual changing is no option.
