I have been doing a series of test encodes with various tools for use with FMS 3.5. In general the tools that I am using utilize libx264 for the H.264 encoding. Things work very well with FFMPEG generated file. Unfortunately, things do not work at all with Handbrake generated files. All of the files pass the FLVCheck tool and I am at a loss on how to continue to debug. It seems FMS doesn't give me a log file which provides any errors related to my issues. Any ideas where to look?
I have been battling this for awhile, not getting very far and not much help out there in the forums. I am trying to stream video from Flash Media Live Encoder 3.0 (locally) to Flash Media Development Server (FMDS) 3.5 (locally on same machine) and then from there (FMDS 3.5 local) to my Justin TV channel. I have used FME 3.5 and 3.0 for this without a problem, but want to move to FMDS 3.5 This appears to be a supported scenerio as outlined on page 69 "Publishing from server to server" in the "Flashmediaserver 3.5 dev guide pdf" that is provided with FMDS 3.5 From my observations, the FME to FMDS stream does work, and I can view it in the web player app provided by FMDS 3.5 When FME connects to FMDS it fires the main asc and based on trace messages it gets so far in the process of connecting and publishing to Justin TV and no farther. When one uses FME to connect to JTV, they provide an xml file to load in FME, and this file has the FMS URL and STREAM name that must be used for con
Hi all, From the flash admin manual i got to know that by using the getLiveStreams() API i should be able to get all the live instances on FMS. However in my client when i use nc.call("getLiveStreams",responder); i am not getting any live instances of the FMS. Could any one guide on how to use the API . DO i need to set any values / variables prior to making this call ? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi, We want to carry out a long overdue update to our Flash Media Server, which is at version 2.0 1. One concern I have is licensing. We have a 100-user, unlimited bandwidth license. As I understand it, version 2.0.1 introduced licensing profiles. The closest matching profile is for 150 users. I'm not sure - can I select that, or create my own profile so we can use our existing licenses? Or have I misunderstood what the profiles are for? 2. Also, I notice that the existing FMS needs to be uninstalled and then 2.0.1 installed. Is this the case with subsequent patches? I couldn't find a specific answer in the release notes. If so, could I just install 2.0.5 and would that include all the maintenance updates for previous releases? Sorry if these are obvious questions. I've never updated FMS 2.0, so I just want to make sure it goes well :) Thanks for your time, Ajay P
Hi all, I'm reading the forum since 3 days ago, and I have a Flash Media Server Installed. I cannot found how to stream video from IP camera. I have 3 cameras that streams video in RTSP, and I want to reStream the video using the Flash Media Server. It is possible to do? Perhaps I need Camera's with specific format/protocol? the only requirement I have is that i have to use IP cameras. I cannot see anywhere how to do this, and I think it should not be a strange thing... Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jordi
Is it possible to to limit the number of viewers an instance can have ?
The video content loads very slow and playback is often choppy. We recently purchased a large library of videos from a content generation group and they are hosting the site and the video content on their web servers and FMS. I was able to hack the rtmp string from the html code of the generated page and ran a series of tests. Using that string I was able to conduct three tests using the port call on the rtmp string. The first specified port 1935, the second 443 and the last one over port 80 1. rtmp://www.videohost.com:1935/videoname.flv 2. rtmp://www.videohost.com:443/videoname.flv 3. rtmp://www.videohost.com:80/videoname.flv What I found was every time the streaming video would load on port 80 right away, 443 a couple of seconds later and 1935 about 8 seconds later. This appears to me that port 1935 is closed and FMS is simply going through its natural progression to 443 and finally 80 only after timing out an attempts to connect. Without deploying an app to the server
Have a first time client who is wanting to stream hi res (maybe hiDef) movie trailers in the same quality and playback funtionality as the major networks. This is my first request for this type of work and am "assuming" the networks are using FMS, and private servers. Before I delve inot this, is this the path considered Standard operating procedure for best quality? Thanks!
Is it possible to create a new FLV using netStream.publish() out of an existing video stream? I'm trying to make something similar to a karaoke app where you can record your self via webcam singing a tune and then add sound effects to it as it plays back to you. I have the webcam recording and playback all worked out, I just can figure out how to add the existing video and new sound to the netStream. I cant seem to find any answers as to weather or not this is even possible, but I'm leaning towards no.
I've a have an audio chat application. Seems to work fine on initial connect. But if a client disconnects and reconnects then I see many cients shown in the admin consule. I don't know if this is a display update issue or a bug (my program or FMS). For example on intial connect, it all sets up fine: /componentFramework/NetStreamExtended/instance1/user1 client:ID: Status: AAAA Publishing: {wed feb 25 00:01 .. } BBBB Viewing {wed feb 25 00:03.. } /componentFramework/NetStreamExtended/instance1/user2 client:ID: Status: BBBB Publishing: {wed feb 25 00:03 .. } AAAA Viewing {wed feb 25 00:01.. } If I disconnect one client and reconnect it (i.e. reload the app in the browser), I get repeats of one client with different times: /componentFramework/NetStreamExtended/instance1/user1 client:ID: Status: AAAA Publishing: {wed feb 25 00:05 .. } BBBB Viewing {wed feb 25 00:03.. } /componentFramework/NetStreamExtended/instance1/user2 client:ID: Status: BBBB Publishing: {wed feb 25 00:03 .. }

I would like to deploy FMS 3.5 interactive edition on a server with 4 x Quadcore processors, 64 GB of RAM and dual 10 Gbit/s network cards. Can FMS 3.5 scale to this level? What are the maximum number of cores, RAM, etc that it can run on? Thanks, Justin
Hi everyone, We are in the process of installing Flash Media Interactive Server 3.5 in our corporate environment. I have been told that I will not be given root level permissions, and asked what type of access (lesser than this) I require. Can anyone give me excellent reasons why I need to have root access as the primary developer controlling this environment on a day-to-day basis? For instance for FMIS 2, I found this gem - "Using the fmsmgr utility - Use the fmsmgr utility to perform basic management tasks for the Flash Admin Service running on Linux systems. You must be a root user to use the fmsmgr utility." Thank you thank you
Hi All, I have installed FMS 3.5 on my server. And say the url of RTMP for the FMS is like "rtmp://myserver.net/". So for running a sample.flv file from the VOD service, it should be like "rtmp://myserver.net/vod/sample.flv".But, i have put my swf file on another server say like " http://www.abcd.com". Now i want to run that sample.flv file through VOD service. But its not working. It says something like connection error. Please help. Thanks, Amit
Hello, I am unable to add adaptors (FMS 3.0.2) License key specified does not allow more than 1 adaptors, initialization of some adaptor(s) failed. I do have an unlimited license and could not find anything in the documentation. Any idea? Thanks Franck
Hi, I have a Flash video player, built in ActionScript 2, that I've recently needed to change from a 4:3 ratio to a 16:9 ratio. The videos are brought in from a Flash Media Server. The player is getting rebuilt in ActionScript 3 later, but for now it should stay in v.2 for a quick turnaround. Back to the point... The original videos were 400px x 300px. The widescreen videos will be 534 x 300. Since the 4:3 videos aren't wide enough, I want to float them in the center of the player, with black "bars" on the left and right sides. Is there anyway to center the videos streaming from the FMS while keeping each video's original proportions intact? It looks like YouTube is doing this already. Are they actually centering the videos or are they "faking it" somehow? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I have a streaming application "myApp" that publishes video streams using ns.publish with "record" option. The files get stored under the applications/myApp folder. Is it possible for me to change either the applications folder and consequently all the apps folders to a different location or the location of just myApp? Thanks

Hello We can successfully stream a flash file from either the FMServer, when browsing the htm file using file:///, or from the web server also using file:/// directly on the server. But when we try to use http://www.websitesaddress/file.htm wither on the web server itself or from my machine we get connection error. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I company I work for is looking at possibly setting up some FMES. The main we question we have is if the server can re-encode flvs?
I'm new to streaming, so hopefully this is a quick answer question.....due to firewall restrictions I would need to STREAM via HTTP protocol over (80)....I can't use RTMPT (which I was able to get working) because of protocol restrictions.....however, all the documentation keeps hinting that you can only progressive download via HTTP...is this true? However, other part of the doco say "you can stream via HTTP if you have APACHE installed". My assumption was that all this was doing was allowing Apache to serve the http "pages" and progressive download the files....so, long story short, can a file be streamed using FMIS over HTTP? Thanks for any help in advance.....
Hi there, I was wondering if it is possible to disconnect a user if the user has been inactive for for example 5 min.? I'm creating a chat. Greetinhg Guido Creation site internet | Radins | Jeux Concours | Programme TV

Hi Forum, Just got my license for FMS 3.5 and I would like to set up a test server. Later I need to install the FMS 3.5 on our main server in a data center. Will this give me license issues? Regards, Rick
Hi I'm new to FMS and have a question I know it's possible to capture a webcam and save it down to file But is it possible to: • Record a stream from a webcam • Then superimpose a transparent flv over the top • Then save this down as 1 flv on the server? Any help would be appreciated Cheers Andy
