Hi, We do not use, or ever want to use Redhat Enterprise editions. Is it possible to get FMS to work on a non-Redhat linux? I can't believe a company like Adobe/Macromedia would provide such poor support for Linux, and constrain it to one distribution. Regards, Cormac
I am starting to get very fed up with this, almost on the brink of giving up, which I never do. I have extensively searched the web and every forum I can find but still no solutions. I am trying to get a server set up before I do any development so as to not waste my time with development if I cant even test it. The problem is not only with FMS but also 4 other servers I have tried to use, same thing with each of them. WIth FMS, I launch the service, start the admine console and try to log in. As long as I put the server in as 127.0.0.1, it will log in perfectly, however when I switch to my external IP address it cannot connect to the server. I am behind a DSL gateway being a modem and router in one, or else I'd disconnect the router and try it, but cannot. I have enabled the port forwarding (which works for IIS so i know its correctly done) and disabled windows firewall but still nothing. I've run netstat -an and the ports are being listened for. I even set the computer up on the DMZ
I want to make an application in which user can play any video files from its own. Either file is in .wmv format or .mpeg4, Flash playes it. Is it possible thru Flash or we need some backend scripting that can encode or convert video files to .flv file. I need some directions. I would appreciate your valuable suggestions.
I have a Sony DCR-TRV33 camcorder that I have connected to my computer via a DV connection on the camera to a firewire card. The video plays very well through Flash broadcaster and receiver movies I got from Stefan Richter's article at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashcom/articles/broadcast_receiver_print.html. I usually record sound through the camera using a Lavalier microphone which gives me very good quality, but I can't get the sound to come through the DV/Firewire connector and play with the video. I don't know if this is even possible using Stefan's actionscript. I probably need to modify it if it is even possible to do it this way. It may be that I need to use a separate microphone instead of running it through the camera. Has anyone tried this? Thank you.
is there I way I can pass a value back to a server side script in PHP for example. So when I reach the maximum simultanious connections is reached. I can display a message to the user instead of them just seeing a blank screen. Any help on this would be appreciated.
For the life of me i cant find the SO for the simple chat app sample. I have modded it and have 4 rooms To connect to a room my rtmp is: client_nc.connect("rtmp:/" + mpt + "chat/" + result_lv.roomID, _global.myName); On the server i have applications/chat/main.asc applications/chat/1/ applications/chat/2/ applications/chat/3/ applications/chat/4/ So i am presumming that the SO will be stored in each of these folders. This dosn't seem to be the case. The SO is definetly being stored somewhere because when i leave and enter go back into the room the text is there. I reload the full site go back inot the room the text is there. i have also checked locally with no SO found. Anyone.

Hi has anybody managed to get some sort of scoping class/object like a Delegate or Proxy to work with SERVER SIDE ACTIONSCRIPT? Not having much luck myself. Cheers
I uploaded my .flv's and .swf's to my server and when I embed them I can't see the movie controls. Do I need to change something in here to reference the SteelExternalNoVol.swf? Here's the code for the embeded object: <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase=" http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="636" height="400" id="" align="middle"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /><param name="movie" value="images/music_videos/full_view/mv_noir_evanescence_bringlife.swf" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#00414d" /><embed src="images/music_videos/full_view/mv_noir_evanescence_bringlife.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#00414d" width="636" height="400" name="" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage=" http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" /></object> Or is there
hi all i have proplem with this code // These lines begin broadcasting. var my_nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection(); // Create connection object. my_nc.connect("rtmp://MYserver:1935/test"); // Connect to server. publish_ns:NetStream = new NetStream(my_nc); // Open stream within connection. publish_ns.attachAudio(Microphone.get()); //Capture audio. //publish_ns.attachVideo(Camera.get()); Capture video. publish_ns.publish("todays_news"); // Begin broadcasting. /* These lines open a stream to play the video portion of the broadcast inside a Video object named my_video. Hi all- Maybe some out there can help me? My WAN people say "Your application needs to be configured to send a DNS name to the clients instead of the internal ip address" My intrernal rmtp string uses the DNS name. x_nc.connect(rmtp://servername:1935/application) Is this right? Thanks.
How to count concurrent connections on a simple videochat application with audio. Theoretical set-up is: One room with 6 pods. 5 people lock on and broadcast there webcam at the same time. In the room there are 5 videopods and one text chatpod. All 5 connected users can enter text in the chatpod. All 5 will see there own webcam plus the 4 other videofeeds. How will FMS2 (2.04) count the number of concurrent connections?
Hi, I am developing an interactive game in Director, that I believe could attract up to 1000 players playing at the same time. It's basically a drawing game, and I'll require using Flash Media Server to exchange drawings between players. Problem is, what do people do for hosting? It seems like all the hosting companies offer like, 10/20 connections, etc...I will need so many more. How do others get around this? Regards, Cormac
I'm having a surprisingly hard time doing this. I have a recorded FLV which multiple users are simultaneously pushed into starting via a NetStream, streamed off of FMS. What I would like to do is allow the presenter to at any time push everyone, no matter where they currently are in the video, to the very end of the video, and stop the play, and have the last frame/keyframe of the video stay up on their screen. How would this be done? Thanks.
I cannot seem to establish a connection from flash via the flv playback component to the installation of my flash media server on my IIS web server. I have port 1935 opened but it keeps on failing. Can anyone suggest any considerations? Thanks
Hi First of all I want to be honest that I am a beginner with FMS2, actually I must have missed much not using it so far. So, excuse me, I am sure you will find my problem very easy to solve. Having a little experience with Flash I tried to do the following: I have 2 PC's in LAN. One of them has camera and microphone. I want to stream audio and video to the other computer - I only need 1-way live streaming audio-video connection. I have read some docs about streaming with FMS2 but I couldn't find out which of the PC's should have FMS2 (and Web server) - the one with camera and microphone or the other. And if the camera and microphone are on the server how audio and viveo should be captured and streamed to the client? I really need your help. Any idea would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Hi, I posted this question in the actionscript forum, but couldn't get an answer. Is it possible to create a NetConnection in one swf and access/use that object in another swf file on the same page? My goal is to have multiple media components on a web page that the user could enable or disable. I don't want to have to create a new NetConnection for each one, as this is expensive. According to the docs, LocalConnection can be used to pass objects between two swf files. Is it possible to send a NetConnection or NetStream object from one swf file to another to redirect a connection / stream without creating a second one? I tried doing this with arbitrary objects, and it works. But when I try to pass in a NetConnection object, it always shows up as undefined on the receiving end. Thanks.
Hi there all, I am new to Flash Media server 2 and just installed on my server. I am having trouble finding out how it works and how to do simple things like adding the first video. Is here a tutorial anyone knows of or a book to be bought about administrating this server. Any help greatly appriciated, even if somone has time to write down the first steps. Thanks all.

Hi all, I'm about to go through an upgrade from Flash Communications Server MX 1.5 to the latest version of FMS. Can any of you please tell me of any issues, gotchas, things to look forward? If there's an article anywhere that you can point me at, as well, I'd be grateful. I'm sure the upgrade is easy, but would love to know best practices on what files and folders to backup before hand, just in case a worse-case scenario happens. TIA, -Jason
Hi I have a problem with streaming audio from a netStream and I haven't found any reference that someone else might be having a problem like this. I have one client capturing video and audio from a webcam, publishing it to the flash media server (running on the same machine), and then another client (on another machine), playing that audio/video netStream. I have Flash Media Server 2, developers edition. Now, if I publish only video, there is no problem, I get a fairly good fps of almost 15 over a local network, the video plays fine with almost no lag. But if I add audio to it, or publish only audio, the video plays fine while there is not enough sound to start streaming sound, but when audio starts streaming, video slows down and so does audio, literally (!). It sounds like slow motion, not just slow but also pitch shifted.. And lags considerately, the longer it continuosly sends audio the longer it lags. I have tried seprating into two streams, for video and audio and I have t
I was going through the tutorial documentated at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashmediaserver/articles/on_demand_player.html by Mr Robert Sandie. Despite following every step that was described in the tutorial, whenever I click on the "OnDemandPlayer.html" page, a warning message that reads The following local application on your computer or network "..\OnDemandPlayer.swf" is trying to communicate with this Internet-enabled location "dev.cyprus.shorecomp.net" ... The screen fails to display the video supposed to be stream from my FMS instance (white screen). I have gone through the codes but there isn't a single place that I can find "dev.cyprus.shorecomp.net" being declared. Does anyone knows where I got it wrong? Thank you guys for your kind assistance.
Hi, I'm working on a website for a local radio station, and I want to be able to stream a live audio feed of the radio station to a flash movie. Right now all I really know is that the URL to get this live feed is http://kpacradio.pacific.edu:8000 - if you put that into Windows Media Player it will start the radio broadcast. Is it possible to play this through flash so that the user can just stream it from a website rather than having to introduce windows media player into it? Thanks a lot. David
Hi all: I'm trying to create a simple connection to my FMS sever using actionscript 3 and the Flash 9 Alpha. The code below *kind of works,* but I know it's wrong - I don't know where it's wrong, but I know that it's wrong. I've been googling, reading the articles here (state machine), and going through the AS3 cookbook, but I'm this is the closest I can get by myself. Any help would be really appreciated. package { import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.events.NetStatusEvent; import flash.events.SecurityErrorEvent; import flash.media.Video; import flash.net.NetConnection; import flash.net.NetStream; import flash.net.defaultObjectEncoding.*; public class VideoExample extends Sprite { private var videoUrl:String = "1"; private var connection:NetConnection; private var stream:NetStream; //private function init():void{ // Create the NetConnection and listen for NetStatusEvent and SecurityErrorEvent events //nc = new NetConnection(); //nc.addEventListener(NetStatus
I'm trying to learn how to do some folder/file management using the File() class but I'm finding the documentation is not really giving me anough information or examples to apply the methods. 1. User connects using NetConnection. application.onConnect() - complete 2. client SubFolder is created in application streaming folder - complete 3. User records a stream using the microphone into the client subFolder 4. User disconnects NetConnection. application.onDisconnect() - complete 5. User's recordings are deleted and client subFolder is removed I have managed to complete step 1 and 2 and am currently attempting to delete the folder onDisconnect but the File.remove() command fails. I'm really yearing my heair out on this one... can someone point me in the direction of a simple example or otherwise explain how this can be done? I would be massively grateful. I wish there was some better documentation for the ss_asd.
