Hi all -- I need your help. We are evaluating if we should purchase Flash Media Server. We are developing a site that like YouTube allows users to post their videos, and like YouTube we want to have playback only in Flash. Because everyone has Flash players, and technically we think it's the best user experience. I've been told that Flash Media Server can dynamically convert .AVI, .WMV, .MOV, nearly any kind of video format on-the-fly and serve it out as Flash Video (FLV). If it can do this boom, purchase made. Since otherwise we are looking at scripting either Flash 8 Video Encoder or Sorenson Squeeze. Which is a pain. If anyone has done this, or can point me to documentation on the subject, or knows anything (so far doc searches have turned up nothing) I'd be very grateful. Thanks so much. We are building a video site, which will be used to showcase users video. We want to playback the video in Flash like Google video or You Tube and also want the ability for users to download the video in iPod, Podcast, Palm and mobile formats. Wondering if anyone here knows how this may be done automatically. I have my doubts that Google and You Tube are doing this by hand. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Hello, Does anyone know of an application for Linux that can batch process video files, or better yet 'watch' a folder for video files to process, and convert to FLV files? I know that Sorenson's product has this capability but it doesn't run on the Linux platform. I am hoping to upload video files to a server, have them automatically processed to FLVs and play them back using the Flash Media Server app. Thank you.
Hey Folks: I'm attempting to install FMS on a RHEL server. Upon installation, here's what I see: ----- Installing Macromedia Flash Media Server files... Configuring Macromedia Flash Media Server... I am currently doing project that requires real-time data for a large amount of clients. The interfacing currently is being done with FMS > ASP.NET > SQL however, this is not effcient enough. Is it possible to have FMS interact directly with a serverside application built in VB?
If possible to Broadcast video.flv in realtime from one client to other clients ? the video.flv files are not on the server but on the client computer.
After transferring an FLV (originally recorded on FMS2) to an http server for progressive download, I experience this problem. If the FLV is audio only, the player receives the duration via metadata.. However if there is any video content, the meta data does seem to be there. Including the Duratuion. This makes the usability of a playback controller very, well, non-usable. Any thoughts?
this is driving me crazy... just install the FMS, when i test my movies from flash everything works fine, but when I try to test them on the browser or it never connect or doesnt´find the files... i´m sure that the server is up and running, and i´m trying to reach the files locally thru: rtmp:/appname/app.html rtmp:/localhost:1935/... or even thru windows explorer file://c:program files.... in all the ways the app can´t conect to the server... what´s wrong?
Hello, I am trying to create an online tv station. What I need is some info on how to create a video broadcaster on my server that will stream flv files in a loop. any help would cool.
Hi - I am using the videoPlayback component to progressively download FLVs. It worked great in Flash 8, and not at all with my new Flash 9 player. To make matters worse, it works on Flash 9 in Firefox but not in IE. I haven't seen other complaints like this. Anyone have a suggestion? Here is the link if it will help. http://www.simpleasabc.com/v.php?id=20-2835561-1 Thanks, Rachel
Hi all, I'm a website programmer in the UK. I have a requirement from a customer to set up a website with a 2-way video chat facility, similar to the one on this website: http://www.bowelweb.com/chat/flashchat.php. I understand how this can be done with Flash Media Server, and am currently evaluating this product. Our customer is a forward-thinking charity, and is planning how best to make their video-counselling services available to clients by means other than the traditional web browser. I have a few questions concerning the extent to which users of mobile devices (phones, PDAs, Blackberry, whatever...) might be able to take part in a two-way video chat: 1. Would it be possible for a user with a video- and internet-enabled mobile phone to browse to the website and take part in a two-way video chat, perhaps using some kind of Flash plugin on the phone? 2. Failing that, does anyone know whether it would be technically possible to patch standard video calls from a mobile phone int
I recently installed Flash Media Server on a Linux machine to test it before buying. The install went smoothly and I was able to connect to the Management Console fine, but when I click on the New Instance button to add an application it does not do anything. Does anyone have any advice on what may not be working or what I can do differently? Thanks!
hi to all you! a quickly question: "I have an application to record a live video by webcam on a FMS. It's better use an instance with i.e. 10 clients or use 10 instances with 1 clients each one?" thanks for your time
I have a module that is about halfway finished. I have been importing avi files with "Progressive download from a web server" selected. I was just informed we will be installing Flash Media Server in the next few weeks. Am I going to have to re-import all of the avi files with "Stream from Flash Video Streaming Service" or "Stream from Flash Communication server selected?" or will the FLV files I have already created work? Thanks,
We have a site that uses flashcom streaming and it worked great with the flash 8 player and 7 player but now that they upgraded to the flash player 9 it causes browsers to crash. I think it may be related to some older as2 syntax and was wondering if anyone has run into this issue. Im just starting to dive into as3 and spoke to someone who said to look into updating my syntax to as3. Thanks for any help, Jesse
I recently purchased a Dell XPS 400. I previously had an Inspiron 600m, which I was able to view you tube content. But, with my new system, I get an error on their site telling me that I either need to enable JavaScript or get the latest version of flashplayer. I have both JavaScript enabled, and I have the latest version of flashplayer. I've contacted Dell, and they can't resolve the issue. Please, is their anyone who can help me? I feel like I am going out of my mind with this issue.
I subscribe to Bluemountain.com. In the past when I tried to download screensavers/wallpapers I have never had a problem. Now I am trying to download a new screensaver. I am told that I need the Flash Player 9 to do this. I go through the download process and when I am told to install I get an error message. I have tried and retried for several days. Does anyone have the answer for me? Thank you NatDean
Hello Experts! {b}We have created an SWF file in a program other than Flash. It pulls in some external videos that have been encoded as SWF files. What do we need to do to get the files ready for the Media Server? Do these external videos need to be encoded as FLV files? What about the main SWF that was created in another program? What needs to happen to it? The IT department has asked for the native FLA file-which we do not have. Just curious, but what we the IT folks do to the FLA? Any help would be greatly appreciated since I know so very little about the Media Server software. Thank you!!
Hi I am new to Flash Media Server and I can't get my head around this software. How do you deploy the applications you build on your development pc, onto an external server? Do you have to have FMS running on the external server? Or does FMS supply you with files that can be used on any server? This is so confusing. Thank you for any help in advance. Jay
I know there's been a lot of talk about the NellyMonster codec. I've spent a week coding my own linux based equivalent of Flash Media Server/Red 5, which I'm happy to say already it works better than both the aforementioned servers (although in the spirit of being a tight-fisted developer I won't be releasing my tool :D). However, now I have come to a crossroads where I need to convert my .FLV generated files into .WAV/.MP3 format for post-processing. So I'd like to know which way is best to take this. So far I see: i) Reverse engineer the infamous NellyMonster codec. (so far no one has managed to accomplish this feat, and I'm not an audio compression genius. So this can be crossed off). ii) Create a Flash App that plays the .FLV sample, and redirect the Audio Output into the Audio Input, while running a second program that records the Audio Input in a more sane format. (this is possible but quite elaborate. but I'm sure I could buy quite a few computers for $2k or $7k and get them t
Hi All, I created a video player with FLEX 2.0 and with it I can view streaming video from localhost. However, when I open the video player web page from a remote browser my swf loads, but the video's don't play. That is, I see my video player, but there's no video. So, "rtmp://localhost:1935/myApp/myVideo.flv" only works on the localhost. When using an ip address (where xx.xx.xx.xx is the ip address) - "rtmp://xx.xx.xx.xx:1935/myApp/myVideo.flv" does not work at all. Again, my video player and all it's controls are there and functioning, but the video does not load. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Chris S.
I will aplogize in advance. I hate to ask someone to hold my hand in the process but I really need the help. I am currently using Windows Media Server to stream my audio and video files. I like the idea of using Flash since it has no problems streaming to Windows or Mac. I have a fresh install of FCS 1.5. Here is what I want to do. Does anyone know where I can find a step by step tutorial for this or would anyone care to help me? I have no flash action script experience. I want to store my audio and video files in on a drive array not in the default install directory. The E: drive on my server is my drive array. I want to be able to click a link on my website (seperate webserver) that points to a particular audio or video file on my FCS. I want the audio or video to play in a browser imbedded player. So I need a player and need to know how to point that player to the streaming server and file I want to play. I will have the file name available. I need to know how to configure my
We have FCS based flash application that has whiteboard, Video , Audio , public chat. We were wondering what all options we have for recording? Is there any way we can capture the entire swf frame by frame with video audio? Or we have to record streams for audio , video separately, whiteboard separately, public chat separately on server side?
I am under the impression that by default, FMS2 will use the Sorenson codec for captured/recorded video in its .flv files. I am trying to instead capture video through FMS2 using the On2 codec. How/where can I change this configuration setting? I went through all of the .xml configuration files in the "conf" subdirectory under the FMS2 installation folder. To my disappointment, I was unable to find any setting to do this. Can someone help? Thanks!
Hello, I am suggested a project to broadcast high quality live video/audio to one or more clients. The two key features of this system is: 1. Video is captured thru advanced high-quality cameras connected to capture card (not USB) 2. Video/Audio should be delivered in very low latency (under 3 seconds) Now I have two questions: 1. Is Flash player capable of identifying Cameras connected to capture card and not USB ports? Or perhaps can some advanced camera be suggested that uses USB port and provides same advanced recording features as professional cameras? 2. I am a little doubtfull about Media Server Audio/Video delays, Is Media server a reliable choice for boroadcasting LOW-LATENCY live Audio/Video ? in my case under 3 seconds. Thank you for any note and help
