Hi everyone,   Starting with AE 24.4.0.24 beta, we have introduced a number of miscellaneous Font management APIs which we hope will be super interesting to some of you who have more refined workflows around Fonts - we created them to help our internal testing, and decided to expose them to Beta following your feedback.   As always, we have updated the Scripting Documentation, where you will find more detailed information about these new APIs. Here is a quick overview of the new APIs:   app.fonts.fontsDuplicateByPostScriptNameHaving more than one Font instance which has the same PostScript name can lead to surprises when the Font instance you thought you were going to get was not the one the FontServer handed back. Earlier releases of After Effects were prone to crash in this state and one of the focuses of the last year of FontServer work was to make this situation work.   Simply use the TextDocument.font API to select a Font by PostScript name is problematic

effects panel stops responding after 2 -3 clicks ,refreshing the workspace or refreshing the list doesn't help

For a very long time now, After Effects has used a sort order in the Project Panel that hasn't always sorted files containing numbers in an expected way. We are making a change today, starting with the AE Beta 23.4x18 release, that switches the sort order to a more expected case insensitive sort order that will work better for names containing numbers.   Please give it a go and let us know if this is better for you or if you prefer the previous sorting method. 

Dropped an imported 3D object in to AR beta. I can animate it, drop effects on it, but when it comes to rendering it doesnt appear. Even PNGs dont work!?!?

It'd be nice, when I drag a guide onto my comp then right-click it to specify its precise location, to be able to specify, instead of pixels, its position as a percentage from the top-left corner; i.e. on a 1920px wide comp, if I dragged out a guide, I could set it to "50%". Currently it sets its position to 50pixels.

I’m curious about the ongoing development mentioned: "Fixes a crash when running a very long script. IN DEVELOPMENT. Prevents switching of hardware accelerated views, which was causing a crash when running long scripts." Will this update address the issue with ProRes Raw not working properly in After Effects on Windows, especially after applying effects or doing significant work on ProRes Raw files? Regular ProRes file types work fine in After Effects, but ProRes Raw has been problematic. I’ve worked with support multiple times, but they couldn’t resolve it and said it’s a known issue. However, I haven't found any official documentation about this problem—only reports from users in several forums.  

Rotobrush can now take advantage of pre-existing propagated frames when performing the Freeze process.   Our internal testing indicates Freeze is now 1.6x to 5.8x faster to complete. Performance results can vary depending on platform, OS version, and GPU. Older GPUs will see the biggest performance gains. Version 24.5x4 of After Effects Beta introduces support for two new 3D features in the Advanced 3D renderer: shadow catchers and shadow colors.   Shadow catchers are 3D layers that “catch” shadows cast by 3D models but are otherwise transparent. They’re a great way to make a 3D model look like it’s part of a 2D video or image.   Beta users can also customize a shadow’s color tint and opacity for a more realistic composite. Color can be set per-layer rather than per-light, which makes it possible to do things like cast pink-toned shadows on a model while the model casts blue shadows onto the ground. Shadow Color also works with shadow catchers.      Getting Started Shadow catchers and shadow colors work with any 3D layer that can accept shadows using the Advanced 3D renderer. The Accepts Shadows and Shadow Color properties can be found under Compositing Options for 3D model layers and Material Options for native AE 3D layers (3D text, shapes, solids).   To

Starting with Beta build, AE 23.0x11, H.264 is now available as an option in the Output Module Settings dialog allowing you to encode to H.264 directly from the AE Render Queue.     This integration utilizes the Adobe Media Encoder (AME) UI along with AME’s backend encoding system all without leaving After Effects. We have also included 3 H.264 presets to get you started.   If you need more control, you can customize the H.264 settings by clicking on a Format Options button in the Output Module Settings dialog. Not every option that is available in AME is exposed inside AE, and some settings such as resolution, frame rate, color management, are still set from AE’s Render Settings or Output Module Settings, but there should be enough to tweak for most users.   H.264 export also supports both Hardware and Software Encoding modes. LUT processing in After Effects now has the option to use a more precise calculation method called Tetrahedral interpolation. The result is smoother gradients and better-looking results when applying LUTs.  The old method is called Trilinear and is still available. This option can be found in the Project Settings.   Below is an extreme example for illustrative purposes:    ORIGINAL:  Your basic ramp . . .       TRILINEAR (old method):  Notice the severe banding.  This occurs when you have smooth gradients and the LUT doesn’t have enough precision to handle the small steps.  In practical terms, outdoor shots with a blue sky are a good example of smooth gradients that you see often.       TETRAHEDRAL (new method):  Notice the smooth gradient.  Tetrahedral uses a superior method to interpolate values in between the steps, so even with a low precision LUT, you get ver

Version: After Effects (Beta) 24.5.0 (Build 😎Platform: Windows 11 (Version 23H2 - OS Build 22631.3447) Basic steps to reproduce the problem:When having the grpah editor open and the "Snap" option disabled (that little magnet icon at the bottom) its possible to go up and down using the mouse wheel and it should also be possible to zoom in and out by holding down CTRL/ the Control key while using the mouse wheel. Expected result and actual result:But in the beta version of After Effects (v24.5.0) this doesn't seem to work (nothing happens when doing so), the same thing works in After Effects 2024 though (v24.3.0).I thought this was maybe an issue with the keyboard shortcuts settings I have selected but it also doesn't work with the default ones. So I suspect this to be a bug that came with the new GPU accelerated UI maybe?

This new functionality is available in After Effects (Beta) 24.2.0.38 or later. We have been working on this feature for quite some time and are very excited to share it with all of you!     We know this functionality is highly requested, so we'd love to hear your feedback.

Hello! A memory management update has been implemented in After Effects starting from After Effects Beta v24.5x17.Users can limit the "RAM available for After Effects" through a preference under Memory & Performance settings. By default this limit is set to a significant portion of RAM available on the system. With this update, After Effects adheres to this limit more strictly, reducing transient spikes in memory usage. This reduces spurious low memory warnings and ensures a more consistent preview range. This update is particularly beneficial in scenarios where the frame cache is recycling frames very quickly such as when switching between previewing two high-resolution comps.

Today, we’re announcing a new feature in After Effects Beta 24.5 x27, the ability to import files directly to a specific folder in the Project panel. Just right-click on any folder in your project and you can select the same "Import" and "Import Recent Footage" commands that you're used to in the File menu. These will import all selected files to the folder you clicked on.Similarly, using the keyboard shortcut Cmd/Ctrl+I while a Folder is selected will import to that folder.    Project organization is a crucial part of working efficiently, and before this change you could only import files to the root of your project and then have to drag them to the correct place, so we’d love to hear how this works for you.Please note: 3D models that are imported currently do not take advantage of this feature and will be imported into your Project root. 

Seeing as it's impossible (currently) to "stack" Track Mattes (see this post: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-beta-bugs/cannot-quot-stack-quot-track-mattes/idc-p/14610070 ) and Set Matte is often useless*, how about we have a brand new shiny effect "Track Matte" which behaves exactly like a Track Matte, but enables us to:Stack more than one Track Matte (by adding more than one Track Matte effect)Change the order in which a Track Matte happens in the effects stackGood idea, don't you think? Howdy Y’all!     Version 24.5 x 29 of After Effects Beta introduces support for the Advanced 3D engine on specific Intel GPUs.   We’ve collaborated with our friends at Intel to fix a driver issue, and now the new Advanced 3D features are available on 12th, 13th, and 14th Generation Intel Core processors.  We are also supporting Intel Arc A3xx and Arc Pro Axx discrete GPUs.     We’re excited to open the gates of 3D model import, Environment Lights, HDRI Lighting, Shadow Catchers & Colors (Beta), Animated Models (Beta), and Depth Map Extraction (Beta) to AE creators using Intel GPUs who have been patiently waiting on the sidelines until today.     Getting Started  All you need to do is launch After Effects Beta, import a 3D Model, or add a layer to a comp and turn it into a 3D Layer.   The 3D Render Engine Dropdown menu in the Comp Window will now give you the option to choose the Advanced 3D Renderer.  &

It is very annoying that the picture flickers every time I paint the mask with the roto brush. After each brush stroke, the picture disappears for a second and appears. Apparently reboots with new data. But when you work with a long segment of video, these blinks are very unnerving and strain your eyes. Smear - blink, smear - blink, corrected smear - blink ... Please fix this blink so that the picture does not disappear, but simply update the roto brush mask.

Hi Y'all!     As of AE Beta 24.4 x 20, you can now add .obj 3D models from your CC Libraries directly into your project in Beta. Open the Libraries panel and simply drag-and-drop your 3D model into the Project Panel or Comp Window. You can also right-click on the 3D Model thumbnail in the Libraries Panel and add .obj files via the context menu.      Cool!     But how do you get .obj models into your CC Libraries??     Good question!  This option now gives you access to the vast collection of free and premium 3D Models on Adobe Stock.   After you license your model, hover on the thumbnail for your model and click on the heart icon to Save to Library.          A notification will pop up in the right corner of your browser to confirm that the asset is being saved to your CC Libraries.
