"Go to next/previous marker" feature not working with clip markers in the timeline

After Premiere's most recent update to Version 23.1.0 (Build 86), I noticed the "Go to next/previous marker" feature was no longer working properly in the timeline. The feature works when there are only timeline markers, but the moment I introduce one or more clips into the timeline with markers--or add markers to a clip within the timeline--the feature breaks, and how it breaks depends on a number of factors...

For instance:

If I have an empty timeline and add markers, the "go to next/previous marker" feature will jump between the markers just fine. And if I add a clip with no markers to the timeline, the feature continues working. But if I add a marker to the clip itself (or add a clip to the timeline that already has a marker in it between the clip's in/out points), the "go to marker" shortcuts break, and the playhead will jump between the first marker and an unmarked specific frame (in one test, the frame it returned to each time was 00:00:01:19, while on another timeline, the time was 00:00:09:13).

This is, however, only if the clip is not at the starting frame of the timeline. If I move the clip to where its in point is the first frame of the timeline, the "go to marker" shortcuts begin working fine again, jumping between both clip and timeline markers. I can also add additional markers to that clip and all is well. But if I then copy the clip with the marker to another spot on the timeline--either touching the first clip or not--the feature breaks again: the playhead jumps to the marker in the first clip (at the start of the timeline) then ceases to move anymore.

If I click to a random point later in the timeline, the shortcuts will function properly between any timeline markers that don't have clips with markers between them, but the moment I try to go to a clip marker--or a timeline marker beyond a clip with a marker in it--the fuction breaks and the playhead gets stuck at that random frame it keeps returning to. (Upon further testing, it seems the frame it chooses happens to be a frame I at one point had a clip with a marker, and it returns there even after I've moved the clip away.)

The problem is clearly the markers within the clips, because the shortcuts work when the only markers are timeline markers. But when clips with markers are introduced to the timeline--whether it has timeline markers or not--it breaks. That said, the shortcuts work fine in the Source Monitor when a clip with markers is opened there.

Given I work almost exclusively with clip markers rather than timeline markers, this is a bit of a problem for me...

I'm working on a 2019 iMac with macOS Monterey (v12.5), if that's helpful to know.

I'm on a Mac M1 Max, running Premiere 23.2.0 (Build 69) and the marker function seems to be working as expected now. Thank you!

dorlyn,

In the Timeline wrench icon, did you try turning off "Show Duplicate Frame Markers"? It may be a workaround and a hint as to whether you are seeing the partial fix I reported above.

I just tested, and this remains true in the latest update 23.3.

PR 13.2.0 (Build 69) was released today, and the announcement and fixed issues notice both report that it "Fixed an issue that could prevent the user from moving to the next or previous marker via keyboard shortcuts after adding a new marker."

https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/fixed-issues.html

It appears improved, but not fully fixed. My simple test case used the same clip twice, and, like different clips, they would show the problem - previous/next will not go to the next clip OR sequence marker. But in 23.2 they still show the problem IF the "Show Duplicate Frame Markers" is set in the track wrench settings. Different clips do NOT show the problem without regard to the duplicate frame marker setting.

However, as soon as you add a duplicate clip, previous/next will not cross the duplicate boundary. And putting 2 instances of 2 clips in A/B/A/B, previous/next will operate only within each clip.

A workaround is to turn off Show Duplicate Frame Markers. This appears to be working the same in the Beta (my latest test in version 23.3.0.35). I had previously reported that this was fixed in the Beta, but must have had duplicate frames turned off.

I'm not sure I fully recognize the bug from that description, so let me say that a) This bug occurs no matter what you use to access the function - keyboard shortcut, Markers menu command, or action added to the buttons in the monitor. and b) it does not require actually adding a marker, the main condition is that there is clip with at least one clip marker and that clip does not start at zero on the timeline.

You could get to the failure point many ways, adding various markers along the way, before you notice that the previous /next do not work. This created confusion as to just what was causing the bug.

Edit: @caroline_edits @Kevin-Monahan I meant to flag you.

Same issue. Jumping back and forth through markers are so important to my workflow. Hope they fix this soon.

Amarotti,

This bug occurs no matter what you use to access the function - keyboard shortcut, Markers menu command, or action added to the buttons in the monitor.

Hello Everyone,

I'm new here so I don't know the protocols intuatively yet, so excuse me for that.

I am also having a problem, but not just with the shortcuts, I have controls on my playback panel that can set markers, and go to the Next or Previous Markers, and that's not working either...  I can set a Marker, but None of the Controls or Shortcuts will Move to any of them    😞

Thanks in advance for your support!!

Hi Kevin,

Any update on progress here? I use markers as scene markers in animation timelines. I then go back and shortcut to those markers, as a reference point for red-lining scenes on exposure sheets. Not being able to accurately utilize my ShuttlePro v2 keypad shortcuts to traverse the markers is killing my workflow. Is there maybe a workaround?

Thanks,

Randy Thompson
