[HELP] Corrupt letters in Captions

Hello all,

We have been having this issue for a long, long time. I am reposting this because my previous post has been marked as spam this is a major problem for us.

As you can see in the below screenshot, all capital M letters have a graphic glitch (spiked shaped on top) when using the font Arial.

There is not a possibility to change the specifications. Our client has specifically asked for Arial font, with a specific amount of edge on the letters.

I am pleading with you, please suggest a solution to me for this.

We have been using Premiere Pro for one year as a company and this still hasn't been fixed.

We have big deliveries for important clients and this is a major setback in our workflow.

Our company is seriously considering switching over to another software. We need a permanent solution for this issue.

Best Regards,

Anna,

Is there some way to import the subtitles as "GraphicAndType"?

That's what the After Effects processes are doing. You feed AE a text file (srt/whatever - you can convert to get the needed format), and AE provides a graphics text frame.

I should note that PR scripting will do this, but other than one post suggesting someone had created such an app for Macs, I have have not seen one.

Hello Stan,

Unfortunately AE is not an option, because buying the software just to use the plug-in would not be something our company should do, it would be extra expenses for a feature that we're already supposed to receive from Premiere Pro.

If there is some way I can escalate this issue in the future, kindly let me know 🙂

Kind regards,

Anna

I don't have a good list, and, in any event, I think it probably affects all fonts, but what varies is the font size and number/level of edge that shows the problem.

I see two examples in my notes "Change font and reduce or eliminate the edge. (For Arial, font size 44, spike is gone at edge = 2. Comic Sans, edge = 5.)" I think (but am not certain) that this was after the improvement.

Let us know what you find.

Hello Stan,

Unfortunately this is not possible for us, since the client has specifications for the subtitles when it comes to the edge of the captions.

I was hoping to find some kind of plug-in but they all require us to buy another software that we don't need.

I have already upvoted the bug, but is it possible to further escalate the issue in some way? It makes Premiere Pro unusable for us, since we use it to burn-in subtitles exclusively. We may need to migrate to some other software and stop using Adobe.

There is no chance to fix since the user in PPro can't set the 'miter limit' or 'joint types' for fonts used in Captions.

Instead of using captions you can use 'GraphicAndType' for burned-in subtitles. This will change the 'miter limit' automatically.

See my post from 11/11/19 that I think still describes the current status.

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/captions-egde-leak-problem/m-p/10730136?page=1#M236552

It contains this link to upvote the bug report:

The other problem for PR burned in captions to date is the quality hit - just not a clean as regular PR graphics text.

Both these problems push towards an alternative. After Effects scripting is one.

Free plugin:

A post with instructions on using the plugin:

And another script:

Hello Stan,

Thank you for your reply.

Do you know if there is some font identical to Arial that I can use, in order to avoid this issue?
