Hi, I experienced this problem before but did not ever find a solution. My laptop recently upgraded from IE 10 to IE 11 and ever since, the contents of the ToC pane in my webhelp projects will not display although they are shown in Firefox. This happened a couple of years ago (with IE 8 I think) and a solution was not found. It was only resolved when my department upgraded to RoboHelp 10. It is not feasible to upgrade our RoboHelp with every IE upgrade however.Does anybody have a solution for this please?Regards,Barbara
So another in my long line of questions in trying to change the implementation of the help systems at my new employer. So, the pressure is to convince the existing guard to toss out the old method and go with a new method... One of the issues has come up for CSH Webhelp (via RH10)... Apparently, in the old method (where every help topic was it's own CHM - no, I'm not kidding). They kept it that way so that any time a help file was updated, they could just send out that one chm to update that one topic. Now they are worried that if we switch to webhelp using topics in one single big project that we can't just send out a single updated file any more... So I'm trying to get ammunition as to how updates to the help can be distributed without it being a big hassle...We do have small updates that go out about every week, and they are afraid that going to the webhelp (1 project with lots of topics) method will require more time and effort for the techs because they will have to complete
I am using RoboHelp HTML 10.In my project, I want to link to a bookmarked section of a topic in another .chm. Is this possible, or can I only link to the .chm itself?I'm happy to provide more information if it's needed; I'm not sure where I need to start. Thanks!
I'm using RH11, and my employer wants to publish our software for our December 1 release in about 50% WebHelp and 50% .CHM format. They said that they are having issues with the .chm format files having compatibility on/compatibility off with different versions of IE that our customers are using, where customers will get a "Compatibility View Settings" window depending on whether they have that on or off. Because of that, they want me to change the beginning of each HTML file from this: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">to this: <!DOCTYPE HTML>Is there a fast way to do this? One of my pieces of software has 448 HTML topics!I tried search and replace, but that did not work. They want this done regardless of whether the end release will be HTML or .chm.Thanks!
I have an RH 11 project on a network drive. The project has 485 snippets. When adding or modifying snippets I get the following error:An error occurred while trying to read data from <n:\roboHelp Projects\\rhsnippet.apj <1>.When I open the rhsnippet.apj file, the file is truncated like this:<file> <name>mysnippet.hts</name> <comments></commentsIt seems that RoboHelp cannot complete writing to the APJ file. After closing and reopening the project, I then get a message saying the cpd is corrupt. After deleting the cpd and reopening the project, I still get a message saying the project is corrupt. The only way I have found to fix the project is to move the project back to a local drive, delete the cpd, delete the rhsnippet.apj file and re-import all the snippets.I have seen a similar issue which was resolved by moving to anot
We are considering upgrading from RoboHelp HTML 9 to RoboHelp HTML5 11. With all of our output files accessible by our customers, we want to ensure our content is always available to address their questions. When doing an upgrade to RH 11 will opening and outputting the files be seamless or will the files need tweaks to get them ready for publication? How much time would it take to adjust one page, if it's needed?Any insight/experience you have with this topic to share is most appreciated.Thank you.
What are the capabilities of a trial? Can a full fledged project be created with a trial?
Ok I admit I am new to this, coming from a print background. I decided to try Robohelp so I could see more about what was happening, rather than just relying on output from Framemaker so I've been learning some basic HTML and CSS (still very much a beginner, but learning steadily) and it seemed sensible to learn some basics and then learn some HTML5. I (perhaps naively) expected to be able to use HTML5 tags in the Robohelp editor as it outputs to HTML5 as an option. But they don't seem to work. Am I right that they don't work? Why not?and.......A call out to the experts out there... I'd love to see a webinar on controlling video/mp4 in FM & Robohelp.... getting sizing right and poster frames and control bars and responsiveness and dealing with it when it goes wrong....I'm using mp4 exported from powerpoint and it just doesn't work. Robohelp insists on putting quicktime (not installed on my pc) code in for video... and puts it back in even if I delete it.oh and another separat
I have a several projects that are multi-language. One in particular is translated in 20 different languages. Based on RoboHelp's suggested method for creating projects in multi-languages, I created the topics first in English, then made a copy of each topic selecting the desired language in the properties. However, now when the software changes, I have to make the same changes 20 times and it's very time consuming. My translators don't have RoboHelp so I can't send them the English and their language file for comparison and have them make the changes. Does anyone have any suggestions on simplifying this process? In addition, when I send the .html files to the translators, I ask them to use Notepad, WordPad, or some other HTML editor to retain the formatting, links, etc. If they use Word, I loose all this information and have to copy and paste their text which is also time consuming. Has anyone had success with files translated in Word? What application is recommended for translat
HelloI'm new to Robohelp (I've been a long term user of Framemaker for print publications). The Ebook generation from the Single Source Layout pod has stopped working and I get this message: Internal error encountered, Failed to generate eBook (Robohelp 11 eBook preprocessor 11.0.0.179)Compiling G:\Development\Course Development\CONE-online\Characteristics-of-light\Robohelp\Characteristics-of-light\Characteristics of light\!SSL!\eBook\!epub_tmp_folder_0\Characteristics_of_light.epub ...Preparing to create eBook...Clearing output folder...Preparing files for eBook...Copying files...Updating files...Finished preparing in 4 sec(s)Initializing compiler...Generating eBook output - eBook Handler (11.0.2.240)...Transforming XHTML topics...Preparing XHTML topic "Questions_about_light.xhtml"...Preparing XHTML topic "The_Electromagnetic_Spectrum.xhtml"...Preparing XHTML topic "Using_wave_properties/Interferometry.xhtml"...Preparing XHTML topic "Using_wave_properties/Mach-Zehnder_modulators
I'm looking to test a plugin (of sorts) with any RH 11 Webhelp output that uses categories and browse sequences. A generated Webhelp output of the Salesbuilder 2 sample project would suffice. I just don't want to buy another version of RH for one test.If someone could post a zipped file of the output somewhere, or send it to the email address on my profile, that would be extraordinarily helpful. Thanks,Roger N.
I am writing help content for software that has two essential components - one web-based and the other a locally installed app (our users work in both). I need the help documentation to be available from both and I wanted to use the new responsive HTML5 layout to make it accessible from a PC, tablet or smartphone while publishing from a single source, but the locally installed app allows users to work offline so I need the help to also be accessible when a user works offline. Is this covered with responsive HTML5 publishing or do i need to publish the documentation to an application help viewer as well?I apologize if there is an obvious answer to this. I am new to this and I have already checked the RoboHelp user guide and the FAQ and forum to try and find the answer. Thanks for your help.Cat
I would like to launch a URL outside of the CHM frameset, in a new browser window, from the CHM's table of contents.Manipulating the TOC item's options on the Advanced tab under Window or Frame doesn't seem to impact the output at all. I would be grateful for any suggestions....Thanks!
I have a WebHelp system that I originally generated in RH9. Pages from that generated output seem to do fine when I use translate.google.com to translate them, regardless of browser. However, I've subsequently upgraded to RH11, and now the new generated output causes problems in some browsers. Specifically, the error message in Firefox (v. 33.0.3) is "Error: Permission denied to access property 'whname'," pointing to line 10 in whproxy.js. Chrome (38.0.2125.111m) gives the following error message, pointing to the same line in the same file: "Uncaught SecurityError: Blocked a frame with origin "http://translate.googleusercontent.com" from accessing a frame with origin "http://translate.google.com". Protocols, domains, and ports must match."For what it's worth, here's the function it's talking about, from RH11's generated whproxy.js:function getStubPage_inter(wCurrent) { if (null == wCurrent.parent || wCurrent.parent == wCurrent)
Hello,I'm using Generate --> Primary Layout (Responsive HTML5). When I view my project in IE8, I get very distorted images (stretched out). The TOC also does not show up properly on the left hand side, if at all. However, if I use Chrome/Firefox, everything works fine.I also notice I get an error on page from IE8 which states:Object doesn't support this property or methodtoctree.jsI'm assuming this is an issue with Java. I have been able to try this on IE9 which works fine as well.Does RoboHelp not support IE8 with the TOC?Upgrading higher than IE8 is not a possibility due to the company still using Windows XP.Has anyone encountered this before or know of a fix for this? I tried updating Java but that did not seem to work either.Thanks.
I've done some searching through the forums and there have already been a variety of posts related to duplicate search results in a .chm when generated with RH. I've followed the instructions from other posts, so far I have:1) Created a copy of the project, renamed the .cpd file and reentered into RH.2) Checked for any topics linked to above the main directory and none exist. Neither the hyperlinks in our help pages, nor the hhp files have any references beyond the root.3) Removed any old .chm files from anywhere but the standard build location (ssl). We were originally building to the root directory of the project, but that has now all been removed so for all intents and purposes the ssl folder is a brand new build folder.4) Created a new layout (which was used to target the sll build folder). All of these solutions have failed to fix the problem, so I'm beginning to wonder if it's something different. One difference between my and others' problems in the forum is the second result doe
If I want to create a template for a new multiscreen responsive layout in RoboHelp 11 HTML 5, for example one that does not have a sidebar separating the TOC from the documentation, what basic changes should be made to the project environment? Is it just a matter of making changes to the CSS and JS files? If so, which ones? Pardon my ignorance.
I have a project that needs to display the same merged projects from different single source layouts. The project is Retail Sales. The single source layouts are Call Center and Field. Both single source layouts display the same two merged projects. Some of the topics I publish from each single source layout need to be different, both within the merged projects, and in the main parent project. I control them with conditional build tags. The Call Center single source layout works. Both the merged projects display correctly. Blocked topics are blocked appropriately. Everything is wonderful, birds are chirping, and honeybees are gathering nectar. There is a rainbow. However, the Field single source layout does NOT work. NONE of the merged projects display. I haven't even gotten to test the conditional build tags because I can't get the merged projects to work.I have created new single source layouts to replace the Field multiple times, to no avail. I have checked and double-checked output pat
I cannot figure out how to make sure Robohelp 11 uses Epub 3 as the default standard for generating epubs. In the Single Source Layouts dock Ebook (Primary Layout) has been set to Epub 3. But when opening a sample job and using Generate, the Epub standard is set to Epub 2.0.1. Why is that and can I change it and make sure it uses epub 3?
Hello again,I'm using RH10 under TFS. Previously when I published my merged project, parent and two child projects, once I published the parent, the published file structure was Parent/mergedProjects/Child 1 and Parent/mergedProjects/Child 2 (note the spaces: my xpj files are called Child 1.xpj and Child 2.xpj). I have been berated for having fragile links (my only excuse is I'm completely self taught with anything web and RH based) and am trying to get rid of the spaces, so I changed the publish path in the two child projects to not have any spaces, thought that would do it. I do what I've learned here (thanks, Peter!) and publish my parent, then each of the child projects. The problem is that the parent is publishing both child projects at the same time and publishing an old version of the project without my latest changes, with the wrong folder names. I'm very frustrated. I think it has to do with the fact that my .xpj files have spaces in them and that's where it's taking the
I cannot install the 11.0.3 RoboHelp Patch. I have manually downloaded it, unzipped it and then tried to install it. A message tells me I do not have Administrators rights even when I install using the 'Run as Administrator' option from the Windows right click menu. The update option is also grayed out on the Help menu in RoboHelp, so I can't use that option either.
Hi, i have some of question, i know that Robohelp can hide some of contents on HTML using conditional build tag (CBT), can i use this tool to hide some of word on the topic's title? Ex: topic title is : Introduce Overview ; I wanna hide "Introduce" when i generate to CHM file for X version, so the title will be only "Overview" on TOC. Else I wanna hide Overview and show "Introduce" when i generate to CHM file for Y version. Is it possible to apply CBT on partially words topic's title like that? because whenever i use right click for partial words then there are not CBT function available on Robohelp? Help Me...Thanks -icha-
I generate Responsible HTML5 outputs, that using template "Theme3_Black". When I browse outputs with mobile Safari (iPhone 5S, iOS 8.1), i can't scroll through the content. Is that bug?
Hi all,I'm using TCS 5 on Windows 8.1, and I recently upgraded to the latest Framemaker (12.0.3) and RoboHelp (11.0.3) releases through Adobe's auto-updater.I have an RH help project that is linked (not imported) to an FM DITA map. I use this setup to generate Responsive HTML5 output from my DITA topics, which I edit in FM. I'm fairly new to structured workflows, so I'm hoping some of the experts here can help me.Since installing the latest FM and RH application updates, I have a problem where formats from the FM structured template are showing up in the RH topics, even though I've mapped the FM formats to RH styles in Project Settings. Here's an example DITA task: The "Task" line above the first step is from the FM template, which dictates that the step.begin paragraph format should have the StepsBegin frame above it. But I changed the style mapping in RH so that the step.begin format maps to an RH style (BodyLevel1). So I don't understand why this "Task" line is showing up; in fact,
Can not generate PDF Output. I keep getting the same error message:"Microsoft® Word has not been started on this computer.Launch Word and click the 'Start using Microsoft® Word' option before generating Printed Documentation again."I have MS Office 2013 32-bit and RoboHelp on a 64-bit Wondows desktop. What do am I doing wrong?
