I am using Mac OS 11.7.10 and Adobe Acrobat Reader 2024.001.20604. Since last night, any PDFs I open from iCloud Drive on my Mac are not showing in my recently opened files in Acrobat Reader. I have never had a problem with this before. I already tried turning off my computer and restarting it. In Preferences, the "Documents in recently used list" setting hasn't changed (it's at 100). Additionally, I already had a file in my recently opened files list that was from iCloud Drive. It is not at the top of the list, and if I open the file again, it doesn't move to the top of the list. Can anyone help?
Hi Everyone,
We are live with the new release (2024.004.20219).
Please update the app to the latest version and let me know if the issue is fixed for you.

I think it's time to accept the fact that Adobe has NO interest in solving this huge problem. They clearly don't care about our user experiences, but are very happy to take our money.
I wish one "community expert" or Adobe employee could provide a solution, but it looks like that's never going to happen. @Lovekesh Garg is there ANY chance Adobe will EVER solve this problem?
In its current state, Acrobat Pro is an unusable app.

That is a work around, but unfortunately that doesn't solve the big problem: "open recent files" no longer works. I would like Acrobat to have the very basic functionality of being able to reopen a pdf I opened recently. It no longer is able to do that.

I just don't understand why Adobe has removed this very basic function from Acrobat. It cannot be difficult to reinstate it, as the 'open recent files' function exists –and works – in all other Adobe apps. I wonder what their logic behind removing it is?

@Lovekesh Garg and @Meenakshi Negi, Is there ANY chance Adobe will EVER address this with your users? User Community, I don’t know how to include the Adobe employees correctly so this goes to their feed, please respond and include them if you can. Users have been reporting this issue with both Acrobat Pro and Reader for several months. Adobe posts that Acrobat Pro is the 2nd most used app in their lineup so clearly this isn’t an issue, but something Adobe has decided to do without sharing the reasons with their subscribers. It's so frustrating and such a waste of time to have to search through an extensive file system for the same files, day after day.
Adobe has been my most respected company for decades. I was fortunate to attend multiple sessions of Adobe Max and always appreciated their professionalism. But apparently that isn’t important anymore. It seems the only resolution is to follow other subscribers to non-Adobe PDF apps and save my sanity and money.

I've been suffering from this problem for a few months too. My patience is running out. It's so basic. And so annoying!

I have had this problem for 6 months now. Any answer or is it no longer a feature of Adobe?

Since we've received no fix from Adobe, or any updates from @Meenakshi Negi, Adobe has clearly made a decision that opening recent files is no longer an available tool in Acrobat Pro.
While Acrobat no longer has the ability to find recently opened files, it does now have a large, obnoxious AI button!

Hi there, has anyone found a solution to the recent files not showing. My list only shows files stored in the cloud storage (Adobe) but nothing that is saved to my hard drive. My was working fine until I upgraded my computer. Could it be an incompatibility with Sonoma, as I was using same version of Acrobat with my older computer just an older OS as worked as expected.

After many months and no response from Adobe, this is clearly not a mistake/programing error on Adobe's part. They have effectively removed the ability to easily access files if they aren't on Adobe's Cloud Storage. It appears the solution they are after is for everyone to move all your files to Adobe Cloud Storage. This is especially egregious to users working at companies who are paying enterprise charges and files must be stored on the company's servers. Perhaps they will be doing this with all their apps and they are using Acrobat/Reader as test cases. Then at some point they will charge everyone a separate fee to store their files on the cloud that is now included in the subscriptions. Of course, this is purely speculation. Only Adobe knows why they are doing this and not responding to their users.

Adobe are focused only on maintaining and increasing their subscription service dependency and developing an AI master plan - which is going to erode their traditional client base - and when did they last listen to what their users actually want?

"when did they [Adobe] last listen to what their users actually want? "
I used the AI button in Acrobat Pro to ask that question and it showed me this Photoshop image:

Thanks, so annoying as used to have this on older version of acrobat, wondering whether to install an older version to see if I get it back. Certainly speeds up my productivity when working and remaking pdfs.

Someone posted a couple of months ago that they were able to reinstall the 2022 version. I haven't been able to find it on Adobe's website. I have the file for an older version, but it was for Windows and I'm now on Mac. Maybe someone on this Community can give more information on finding the download files.

I FINALLY found a resolution to the recently used files lists not updating.
When I open Acrobat, the initial screen shows RECENT files on the right. One of the items on the LEFT frame of the screen has a section marked "Other file storage." Despite the fact that all my files are saved on my local hard drive, my folders are also syncing to the cloud via dropbox. I had to click "Add file storage" and connect Dropbox. Once I completed that, my computer behaved the way it used to - files that I open in Acrobat via File/Open appear in the Recent list.
Hope this helps others.

THANK YOU!
This worked for me.

Thank you! Unfortunately,, this only works when people are using one of the listed drive options. For people who use other storage options not listed, such as iCloud, it doesn't resolve the problem. And, prior to whatever Adobe did to the app that caused this, there were no problems regardless of what file storage system was being used.

This is a link I found that may be of use to others. I expect it would apply to other icloud storage options. At first Dropbox didnt show, I think I had to user my mac user code to give it permission and then it showed up.

The last commenter appears to be correct. This issue is a matter of not being signed into the relevant cloud storage, even if it is synched locally. Unfortunately, if you are like me, your IT department will not grant Adobe access to your OneDrive. So will not ever get this feature for anything sitting in a OneDrive folder.

OneDrive doesn't work anyway, maybe dropbox does as others have said.
