I'm facing an issue with Adobe Express where **Arabic text** is not properly supported when exported as a PDF. Unfortunately, the exported text appears broken and is unreadable across all platforms, including mobile and online. I'm seeking clarification on this matter." 🤔

Adobe Express have limited Arabic support as you noticed. If your Arabic Express project is a single page, then I would suggest that you download it as an image such as PNG or JPG. If however, the project that contains Arabic text is a multipage, well then you will have to publish it to the web in different structor such as Webpage or Presentation sa these two Express features supports long article and supports Arabic.

I started content creation on linkedin and I am using the app to post image (Jpg) but when I tried to make a carousel as a PDF, the arabic text is broken, I know I can export the separate jpgs and merge them into one pdf using other app but this will make the content as image while if I made the post on illustrator or indesign it will still be a vector and overall I wanted to use the Adobe Express as one stop shop where I can finish the full design on it, Adobe development team should fix this issue ASAP, I was looking for "outline" the text before exporting but I didn't find, this feature can help at the moment but it's not exists

Good thoughts there Sam. Surely, if you have access to InDesign, then it is much more convenient and presentable to have your Arabic text layed out there, then Exported to PDF.

As for Express, we were told that Adobe will focus on Right-to-Left languages in the coming short period, we met Adobe staff in person recently in Dubai and have explained to them our needs, so hopefully we managed to grab their attention.

Yeah… outline option on Express,  that too isn't provided on the web nor on the App.

As a graphic designer, I prefer to use Adobe Express not only for myself but also for my clients. Many clients ask me to create branded social media templates for them. Previously, I used Canva for this purpose, but some clients preferred PowerPoint. Once I discovered Adobe Express, I found it to be very user-friendly and effective. The only issue I have is with using Arabic content on the platform. I recommend Adobe Express to my clients because they can easily edit the templates I create for them and share their content. Therefore, I am very interested in having Adobe Express support Arabic content.

Given that you mentioned meeting the Adobe team in Dubai, I strongly encourage you to convince them to prioritize Arabic support, especially in this region. I'm based in Abu Dhabi, where many clients speak Arabic and require Arabic content. It would be highly beneficial for designers like myself to have a tool that supports Arabic, as it allows clients to make simple edits without needing to return to me for every minor change. By supporting Arabic, Adobe Express would greatly enhance the user experience for many clients and designers in the region.

You gave me some ideas to try. I just outlined all Arabic text in my InDesign document, exported to Print PDF, then uploaded to Express as font-free, yet this is what I get…

Screenshot 2024-05-27 at 2.23.54 PM.png

Obviously Express tries to OCR the content, it realizes the content is Arabic.

Arabic text rendering issues in PDF exports can be frustrating, but there are several steps and considerations that might help resolve this problem with Adobe Express. Arabic script has specific requirements for proper rendering, especially when it comes to maintaining text direction and character joining.

Potential Solutions

  1. Check Font Compatibility:

    • Ensure that the font you are using supports Arabic script properly. Some fonts do not fully support Arabic characters and their correct joining.
    • Use Adobe Arabic or other fonts known to have good Arabic script support.
  2. Update Adobe Express:

    • Make sure you are using the latest version of Adobe Express, as updates often include bug fixes and improved language support.
  3. Language Settings:

    • Verify that your document’s language settings are correctly set to Arabic.
  4. Export Settings:

    • When exporting your document as a PDF, check the export settings to ensure they are configured correctly for handling Arabic text.

Steps to Fix Arabic Text Rendering Issues

Step 1: Use Appropriate Fonts

  • Go to the text properties in Adobe Express.
  • Choose a font that supports Arabic script, such as Adobe Arabic or other reliable Arabic fonts.

Step 2: Check Language Settings

  • Ensure the text direction is set to right-to-left (RTL) if needed.
  • Verify the language settings within Adobe Express to ensure it is set to Arabic.

Step 3: Update Adobe Express

  • Ensure you have the latest version of Adobe Express.
  • Check for updates in the app or download the latest version from the Adobe website.

Step 4: Export Options

  • When exporting your document, select “PDF” and check the export settings for any options related to text encoding or language.
  • If there are any advanced settings related to fonts, make sure to embed fonts in the PDF.

Additional Steps for Complex Issues

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider the following additional actions:

  1. Convert Text to Outlines:

    • Before exporting, convert the Arabic text to outlines. This will turn the text into vector shapes, ensuring that the appearance is maintained. Note that this will make the text non-editable.
  2. Use Adobe Illustrator or InDesign:

    • If Adobe Express continues to have issues, try using Adobe Illustrator or InDesign for creating and exporting your document. These applications offer more robust support for complex text rendering.
  3. Adobe Support:

    • Contact Adobe Support for more personalized assistance. They can provide specific guidance based on your version of Adobe Express and the exact nature of the issue.

Summary

  1. Check font compatibility and use a font that supports Arabic script.
  2. Update Adobe Express to the latest version.
  3. Verify and set language settings to Arabic.
  4. Adjust export settings to ensure proper text encoding and font embedding.
  5. Consider converting text to outlines or using more advanced tools like Adobe Illustrator or InDesign if issues persist.

It seems that more and more users are hooked to Express, and using it as an alternative to InDesign or Illustrator, especially for social media.

I created this Adobe bug report which requires your vote to attract more attention.
