The crop does not work

Community Beginner ,
Jan 10, 2024 Jan 10, 2024
I hit the crop button and the grid comes up but not only am I not able to pull and move the grid in a free crop mode, the crop never applies, there is no done button or apply button or anything? Also, the premium version has no Magic Wand?? Seriously? Why drop such a fantastic and necessary tool, you have a zillion other capabilities now, why drop something so fundamental and helpful? And if you do get rid of it, why not give me some manualk capability with a lasso? I am incredibly unimpressed and will not be subscribing and definitely not recommending.

Hi @default34714433gr2doz

I am able to use the crop functionality just fine; pullling and moving the grid (as well as the ghosted image) works for me. There is no Done/Apply, but clicking anywhere on the design canvas outside the image has the effect of committing the crop. Could you share a screen recording illustrating the difficulty you are running into?

As for Magic Wand, I don't believe the previous version Adobe Express had that. In the current version of Express, the closest tool to a magic wand is the Quick select mode under the Erase tool. Perhaps I am misunderstanding what you are looking for?

same here I can't crop tried clicking outside the image.  So frustrating.  Not sure what I am doing wrong but like other users I figured there would be an OK or CROP button somewhere?  Can't crop the shape I selected.  Screenshot attached. (I blocked out the text with an image for this upload)

Hi

,

As suggested by

Abhi.G @ ADBE

above, "There is no Done/Apply, but clicking anywhere on the design canvas outside the image has the effect of committing the crop." Did you try that?

i cant crop video properly and have no words. i crop the video image but the overall canvas refuses to crop. So basically I can crop my 10x10 video into 5x5 but it sits in a 10x10 frame. i feel like im going crazy.

The image canvas crop handles disappear on images randomly for me. Some have the handles, and allow crop, and some randomly lose the handles.

Hi everyone. The issue where crop handles disappear randomly may be linked to specific image settings or a software glitch. Here’s what you can try:

  1. Unlock the Image: Ensure the image isn’t locked. Locked elements won’t display crop handles.
  2. Check Grouping: If the image is part of a grouped element, ungroup it to regain individual controls.
  3. Reload the Project: Save your progress, refresh the page, or close and reopen the project to reset the interface.
  4. Update Adobe Express: Make sure you're using the latest version of the app or browser.
  5. Test on a New Project: Add the same image to a new project to see if the issue persists.

Let me know if you need further assistance!

Thanks,

Chaimaa

Thank you for these suggestions, Chaimaa. None of them work. I can't get the crop handles back onto the image. I need to delete the image and add it again. That's not a solution, it's an annoying workaround for a bug. The crop handles need to show up consistently.

Also, the images randomly fail to snap to other frames on the canvas.

Hi All I am still having this issue. I crop the image and it appears cropped, I click anywhere and it looks cropped. However, when I attach the image as a background, its shown not to have worked. Example I croped this historic image to remove the text below to make a book mark, but when I attach as page background the text is still there and it doesn't appear as it should.Screenshot 2025-02-10 125118.pngScreenshot 2025-02-10 125156.png

Hey @amy_3332, This workflow is as designed! When we use the image as an asset on the canvas, the crop overlays it. When the image is used as the canvas's background, the crop overlay is disabled, and the original image is set as the background!

@amy_3332 you are correct in observing that when an image is set as background, any original manual crop is discarded. However, you can effectively crop a background image relative to the page (after it has been set as background) using the "Reframe" option (on desktop, you can also double-click the image to enter reframe mode).

Hope this helps
