Changing fill colour on specific words using 'Typewriter' effect

Hi there,

I have a sentence in After Effects CC that I've applied the 'Typewriter' effect to: 'It helps victims and their children to talk, to break the cycle of abuse, and to build a future without fear.'

I want 'It helps victims and their children to talk' to type on first with a brief pause, and 'talk' needs to be orange as opposed to the rest of the text, which is black. I then need 'talk' to switch back to black as the rest of the sentence is typed, resting on 'It helps victims and their children to talk, to break the cycle of abuse' with 'to break the cycle of abuse' now highlighted in orange. This then switches to black, as with 'talk'- once the entire sentence is typed out I need 'to build a future without fear' to be orange.

Does this make sense? I'm aware of the Range Selector and how to change the fill colour of the text but I have no idea how I'd have 3 separate words switch to orange at different intervals as the text is typed out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You could use masks on the fill effect. Use masks to control effects |

So, in this case, you'd have 3 masks and 3 fills. You could animate it but seems like it's more complex than really necessary. You make black text. The first orange fill is on "talk." The second is on break the cycle," the 3rd is on "build a future without fear." Just animate the fill controls.

Thanks! Actually hadn't thought of using masks, guess I had Range Selector/Fill Color on my mind- much appreciated!

You could do that by adding a Fill Color text animator and just animate the color change. It would take about 2 minutes. Here's everything it takes to do what you ask:

Thank you! I think I just over complicated this in my head.

I'm with Rick on this - use Multiple Text Animator Groups; one for each color and word. Then use Range Selector (and Animate by Character/Word) to make selections within the text string.

...and here's another way.  Make a text layer, laid out the way you want it to look, including the text colors.  Then apply the Typewriter animation preset.  Done.

Oh I'm clear on how to use the Typewriter preset and font colour, it's just that I need the text to change colour as it's typed onto the screen at different intervals. Thanks though

LA PLUS RÉCENTE

Add another text animator as I showed in the screenshot. Nothing to it. You can add as many as you like. Play with the range selectors and set some keyframes. You'll find info in the User Guide and a little experimenting is all you need to do. If you add the color change and adjust the range selector to isolate the word you can then add the typewriter effect to type on the words. You just need two animators, not one animator (set of range selectors) with two effects.
