How do I select multiple points to stretch a section of a shape?

Nouveau ici ,

Guys I have been following this tutorial below but I got stuck at 8:17 where this guy stretches the first letter of a text upward in a straight line...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1m744M8QffU&t=399s&ab_channel=Broken

I'm doing something similar but with a shape not a text. I have photographed an image of the project

I'm working on and I have circled (in red) the points that I want to select excluding the central area of the shape. I'd like to stretch the red circled points altogether on a straight line towards the right but first I need to know how to select these circled points. The guy who made this tutorial used the letter V to make a squared selection of his letters before stretchingHow to I select. When I try to follow his example, only point x as labelled in the image stretches, creating a distorted curved line instead of a straight line.
So guys please can you carefully explain how I can select these six points of the shape so that I can stretch them to the right?
Here is the image of the shape below:

I know it's probably easy but I'm kinda new to AE so forgive my ignorance...

No you have not selected points. You are stretching the entire shape. Again you must double-click the shape and then shift-click on each point one by one and drag those.

Or do you see where it says  'path 1' in the layers? Select that and it will also show you the points and you can select them with shift-click on each one. Then drag those out.

I'm not clear what you are having issues with. AE accepts the same modifier keys such as Ctrl, Alt and Shift as AI does to add, subtract and so on anchor points to/ from selections. It should not be a problem at all to get whatever you want selected with multiple clicks/ marquee selections.

Hi Mylenium

let me make it simple

I want to stretch the green selected area of the shape to the distance of the red. How do I select that area and stretch it?

Thats what I wanted to find out.

I'm still not clear what you are getting at. As per your screenshot, none of the anchor points are selected, so there is nothing to move. Instead your other paths are selected. Start by actually selecting the shape with the outer arch in the timeline and thnen select/ deselct the points as needed.

You said:

How do I do it? Not what.. but "how" do I do it, that's what I have been asking..

You said:

"As per your screenshot, none of the anchor points are selected, so there is nothing to move. Instead your other paths are selected."

My response:

I had no clue about what I was doing so I just photographed it out of desperation. Just ignore what I cluelessly selected. All I want to know is "how to" select the shape points or anchor points or whatever you call them within that green highlighted area to stretch to the right...thats all I'm asking.

I'm new to AE so forgive my ignorance😢

Hi... get the arrow selection tool. Double click the shape to select it then click and shift-click on the points you need.

Ro Hackett
I tried following your example and this is what happened:

However  the stretch "D" from the image below is the exact form of stretching I want for my "shape"

When I click on the points the shape doesnt move??

here is a link to my AE file below to see is you can do it:

🤣 yes you see ... there is the layer itself which is the square bounding box and then the shapes within that ... confusing... I can't stand shape layers! 🤣
