ANROID LIGHTOOM MOBILE: Can't Post Photos Exported from LR Mobile to Instagram

Has anyone else had issues posting exported photos from Lightroom Mobile (Android) to Instagram? I have a Samsung S24 Ultra and have not been able to share edited images to Instagram since I got my phone a month ago or so. My work around has been to post edited photos to Facebook which works, then save that file back to my phone from Facebook, then upload that to Instagram.

I get a "Photo can't be posted" error every time regardless if I'm on cell or Wi-Fi.

Hey, @Abel1549. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

What settings do you use to export the image from Lightroom? A picture uploaded to Facebook > downloaded & uploaded to Instagram would likely lose a lot of details.

If you're exporting in an HDR-friendly format from Lightroom, you must use the latest version of Instagram as the support for HDR was introduced at the end of March & updates can take time to arrive via the PlayStore.

Let me know how it goes.

Exact same issue for me. Although a small solution is posting the lil copy of the picture the Instagram app makes after it fails to upload the first time.

Hey sameer,

I had clicked pictures from my s24 ultra. After editing it from Lightroom, with all possible export quality using custom sizes too, Instagram shows this error message as the photo cant be uploaded.

I have even tried to share that image to a different Samsung device and try to upload. But still the same problem shows up. But when tried from an apple device, it was able to upload. Kindly let me know what is the issue.

Hello @Sameer K

I just downloaded the free 7 day trial of Lighroom and also cannot upload and photos I have edited in Lightroom to Instagram.  This is really frustrating as one would think that the main photo social media app would be compatibable with the main photo editing app.  Not sure I will be paying for Lightroom after my free trial if I can't do something as simple as post to Instagram.

Please Help !

Has anyone found a fix for this issue?

I'm using Pixel 8. My current workaround atm is to post it from IOS phone, seems only affecting Android phones

Oh hell! I thought this thread would contain a solution to this. I am getting this issue on my Pixel 8 if I post just one photo. If in multiples of two it works -- one of these images is normally monochrome. I am now lost ... And don't know how to find a solution. Other than to post images I have edited in LR on my iPad.

Got an interim fix. Once youve edited a photo from mobile LR, just go to
gallery, to that pics, just tweaka bit and save. E.g. crop the edge a super
tiny bit. Basically any edit from gallery and save it. Then post that pic (
still carrying the edits from LR ) , it will work.

I read from another post. Someone shared an interim trick

I found something that works for me in case it helps anyone - switching on the option in preferences for: "HDR edit mode for new photos" means I can now post direct to IG again.

Same problem on my Pixel 7, but no issues of I edit the image in the photo app, or my work around is to save to device then post from the default photo app.

As someone else commented, it's disappointing that we can't post from the 'leading' photo editing app to a major social media app. But I doubt anyone at Adobe cares.

Other tthan switching to an iphone, neither can I.

And FWIW, I really don't like the way the mobile app does HDR.

Hi All!

We're sorry for the continued trouble. In some cases, reinstalling Instagram has helped. On the other hand, I cannot recreate this with Lightroom 9.5.0. Does the issue appear when you shoot an image using Lightroom's in-app Camera? Please do the following:
1 - Record your screen showing the File Info & the share/export workflow.

2 - Share a few sample images.

Please share these details here or with me via direct message.

Additionally, please ensure Lightroom and Instagram have permission to Photos and videos set to 'Always allow all.'

Thanks!
Sameer K

Dear Sameer,

here is a sample picture to make some tests on your side

I am using alors version 9.5.0

The workflow is the following:

1) shoot a picture with the default camera app (samsung S24 ultra)

2) open image in LR mobile

3) edit the image

4)share to instagramm feed (does not work)

4 bis) save capy to device

5) use instagram to post the saved image (does not work)

I also try to move the image in another folder like the default camera folder this does not work as well...

But if you edit the same image with an other app and save it , you can post the image to instagramm... so to me it looks like something in the encoding of the jpg directly out ou LR mobile is not like by instagramm app.

BTW if I am sharing the image as a instagramm reel, it does work...

best regards

Pascal
