Fill with vector

New Here ,
Oct 30, 2022 Oct 30, 2022

I'm using vector layers and did all the line work on one layer and set it as a reference so I can fill the layer below it. It worked for a while then it stopped filling all they way. There's a gap where there's no color. I know you can change it in the fill setting by adjusting the color margin but it won't even let me open the fill settings. Anyone know a fix to this?

Hi @trinityh24621106,

Thanks for your time & patience. I checked and confirmed with the team the color margin exclusively works with pixel & live brushes only.

With vector brushes, the color margin option will be disabled.

Please feel free to reach out if you run into any other queries or issues in the future. We'd be happy to help.

Thanks,

Anshul Saini

Hi @trinityh24621106,

Thanks for reaching out. We are able to reproduce the same behavior with vector brushes. The color margin is not working as expected. Please allow me some time to check with the product team, and I will get back to you. Once I get a response from them.

Thanks,

Anshul Saini

It's 2025 and Adobe Fresco still have the same problem: if you fill a vector shape it will create terrrible white edges. This is not acceptable from a professional app

Hello @alexemanuelli,

Could you share more details, like your device make/model, the version of the OS/Fresco installed, and a small screen recording of the problem, so I can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Anubhav

Hi Anubhav,
thanks for your reply – but honestly, after three years of this bug being reported repeatedly, it's hard not to feel frustrated.

Let me ask – with genuine curiosity – does Adobe even test its software before releasing it? Because this vector fill issue has been flagged since at least 2022 and is still completely unresolved in 2025. That’s not a minor oversight – it’s an embarrassing failure from a company that claims to deliver professional-grade tools. Especially considering the cost of the subscription.

To be clear:

  • This is not a rare edge-case bug.

  • This is a core workflow for illustrators:

    1. Draw a vector outline.

    2. Set that layer as reference.

    3. Create a new layer underneath.

    4. Use the Fill tool, to fill the shape used as refernce → end up with awful white artifacts around the edges.
(Probably due to anti-aliasing mismatch between vector layers and fill behavior.)

It’s basic. It’s essential. And it's broken.

You asked for screen recordings and system specs – but really, do you need those to reproduce something that’s been confirmed by dozens of users for years? Did you try following the steps wrote above 2 years ago? Because that would be more helpful than asking again for device info, as if this were a local problem. It’s not. It's a design flaw.

Also, this thread isn’t isolated. Another one was even marked “resolved” (??) despite the problem still being very present:
 https://community.adobe.com/t5/fresco-discussions/vector-fill-creates-white-edges/m-p/14270342

And while we’re here, here’s a quick list of other glaring omissions in Adobe Fresco that no professional workflow should tolerate:
– No ability to import .ai or .pdf files. No vector import whatsoever. Seriously??
– No support for creating or importing color swatches. Again, seriusly?
– No vector editing tools beyond drawing basic lines (ofc we're not asking for illustrator function, but at least a funcion to put a Trace around object...)
– Still no proper CMYK or print workflows, despite Fresco being touted as a pro app.

Some of these might be excusable for a small indie app. But for a product from Adobe – with its market dominance, pricing model, and resources – it’s shameful. I had to pay for Procreate.

Instead of solving this stuff, what has the team been working on? Certainly not fixing Photoshop or Illustrator either, which are still plagued with long-standing bugs. But I digress – let’s stay focused on Fresco. A product that has to be present in Adobe product offer, but is currently deeply underdeveloped for any serious professional work.

This bug – and many others – deserve to be treated with the priority and respect of professional users. Because at the moment, it feels like Adobe is coasting on its name while failing to support the people who pay for these tools month after month.

Please escalate this issue (again). Please don’t ask for another device spec.

Thanks,
Alex
