Export to larger size PDF

Hello! 

I made a page in InDesign with document dimentions 11x8.5. I now need that printed on 17x11. Is there a way I can create the pdf with the size of 17x11? I know that I can Export as a pdf and then in Adobe Acrobat play around with the settings to print it on a larger scale; however, I am not the one that will print it and I'd prefer to have the pdf already set up with the right size. Thank you!

I would:

1. Start a new document at 17 x 11.
2. File > Place the original 11 x 8.5 .indd file
3. Scale the placed .indd up to fit on the 17 x 11 page appropriately.
4. Export to PDF...

Hello John. Similar problem but over 200 pages with images as well...so I dont really want to have to place all the pages again...

But what exactly is the problem you're experiencing - what do you need to achieve?

I have a 216 page document and wish to make pages 15 percent larger proportionally with the images and text also to fit and look exactly the same but bigger. Same margins as before. In other words the body text 10.5 will become about 11.5

I know, but based on the type size scale, is anyone really going to notice a 10% increase (e.g., 0.5 inch to 0.55 inch)?

That's true if you intend to scale the page absolutley, but you can scale the PDF pages while placing into any size new page you like and crop off the old margin area with the new page edge. Only place I see this being a problem is if there's bleed.

You're right @Peter Spier and I was thinking exactly the same - it would be best, if @mapperou would've access to the original INDD file - to modify contents of the original file anyway. Which wouldn't be so hard 😉

@Robert at ID-Tasker I don't see why you would need the original .indd files and links unless you want to alter the layout for a new aspect ratio. If the aspect ratio of the pages changes, then by necessity the margins must change if you are doing a simple scale operation, but if you don't mind that the script I mentioned above will take care of this in seconds.

Yes, if you just want to scale up - then PDF is fine. 

But like you've said - bleed / crop might be a problem - so modifying INDD file would be best.

In Dimensions, select the new page size
In Scaling, select Rescale

Just for reference - the output percent would be 154.55%.

But as already pointed out - you can place your document and scale it as necessary.

However, this may cause image resolutions to go below the minimum required.

If your images are 300 ppi when placed then scaling them by 154.55% would give a resolution of
194.22

Just a warning that you might end up with low-resolution images in the final output.

But you can setup a preflight check for this

Are we talking about printing two pages on an 11 x 17 sheet? Acrobat can handle that. If you mean scaling a single 8.5 x 11 to 11 x 17 I just want to point out that this is a different aspect ratio so your margins will change.
