InDesign 19.5 Hangs at Startup on MacOS Sonoma 14.5

Participant ,

All of a sudden, my Adobe InDesign hangs on App startup. I had been running InDesign fine on my Mac M2 Max Studio for months now, and today, it decided that it's had enough. I am on Mac OS Sonoma 14.5 (latest version).

I've tried the following today, but after launching InDesign, It repeatedly hangs at "starting up panels."

-- Removed the App preferences by Cmnd-Opt-Control-Shift launching

-- Deleted existing InDesign app using the CC app

-- Ran Cocktail 17.5 to run all the latest clean cache scripts

-- Reinstalled the latest version of InDesign (19.5.0.84) from the CC App

Still no joy. HELP!

Some Mac users suggest creating a new user account.

Thanks, Robert. I tried it, and unfortunately, it does not work. Same hang at startup. I am going to try older versions now.

Check fonts - if you don't have duplicates?

In that case - something is seriously wrong with your machine?

Update: Reinstalling MacOS Sonoma.  Stay tuned.
Also, I resolved all font duplicates.

@jeffyerkey

Are you sure you don't have 14.6 - recent update? Maybe it somehow updated automatically - and it's a new bug?

Hi all,

Update to my problems: After spending 4+ hours on this situation, I finally had to "go nuclear" on it.  I had to resort to using the <AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool.dmg> tool to delete EVERYTHING Adobe on my Mac.

Then, I was able to carefully install the big 3 successfully -- InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Yes, I've lost all my user settings and scripts, but... whatever.

I guess I'll never know what caused this meltdown.

@jeffyerkey

Yes, CC Cleaner is a nuclear option - but it's possible to save preferences and scripts and then restore them selectively.

Hi Robert,

I just now restored my Workspaces using Adobe's new File > User Settings > Save Settings feature.

THANK GOODNESS!

I am dealing with this same problem. How did you do the AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool.dmg?

I was on hold with Adobe tech support over this issue, never got to talk to anyone and eventually after over an hour Adobe disconnected the call. I wish Adobe would invest much more in their application support team because that is one thing that paying subscribers really need.

Erin,

It's about halfway down the following web page: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Hello @Erin Petmezas,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating.

I assume you are experiencing a similar issue mentioned here: Unable to launch all Creative Cloud apps like Phot... - Adobe Community - 14784958

Please try the workaround suggested in the post and let us know if that helps resolve your issue.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,
Harshika

I ended up having to completely uninstall the entire creative cloud suite.
Once I reinstalled the desktop app and subsequent programs, InDesign,
Photoshop (which had also stopped working), and the other programs started
working again. I wish I had done that from the start because I wasted hours
trying other things. It's got to be a bug or something.

Thank you. Currently, InDesign, Photoshop and InDesign will still not open. I have 32 gb of RAM, and have 216.43 GB storage available of 994.66 GB. I also deleted the applications and reinstalled them and still crashes when I try to open them. The only Adobe application that opens is Acrobat. These applications worked on this same computer prior to yesterday.

I called Adobe support and eventually someone will call me back. I hope that they help me figure it out.

I was in the same jam last week. The only thing that worked for me was the Creative Cloud Cleaner App.

I had this problem with Ventura … both versions 18.5.3 and 19.5 were crashing with Ventura 13.6.7. So annoying. So I reverted to an earlier version of 18, namely 18.3. That earlier version works—fantastic!—with Ventura 13.6.7. Maybe an earlier version of 19 will work for you. PS. Something that has worked for me for years is keeping a 'set' of InD prefs for the last version that has been stable. Then when things go haywire you copy+replace the prefs with your 'set' that you know works. I do this with all my apps. See attached. [Cmd-Shft-L gets you into the Library] …

I'm having the exact same problem! About to try your last resort option, but I'm looking for the File>User Settings>Save Settings feature and I'm not finding it in the programs that still work.
