Question

InDesign 2023 makes a read only file

I have just updated to the 2023 InDesign, and now suddently my documents are read-only and I cannot save the file, but have to make a save as version and give the document a new name everytime I have to save my work.

Do you know why this is happening? And how to avoid this?

Does Adobe have an answer/fix on this for the PC users yet? I have been dealing with this ridiculous issue since October! Costing me so much time and there have been so many errors becaues of this.

Forgot to mention that this only happens on our machines (Windoes 10) using the EasyCatalog Lite plug-in. Of course, the folks at EasyCatalog said that this is an Adobe issue and direct us to this thread.

Same read only issue as everyone else. We produce an 800 page 17 section catalog every year and this year was a nightmare. 17 Indesign files that would randomly open as read only. Please tell me that a fix is on the horizon

We are beyond ready for this to be fixed. Now matter how hard we try....many times we begin working for the day, and don't notice the [read only] tag on the file name at the top....so after hours of work...we have to do a "Save As" creating a new file in the folder....we end up with tons of InDesign files for the same job and have to then delete or archive the older ones. It has been such a time-suck for our team, not to mention a dangerous way to work.

Same here, we've been living with this bug for 2 months now and from Adobe there is only silence.

I am absolutely having this problem, too. I just switched my work computer from a Macbook Pro to a Windows 11 Dell. This is suddenly an issue, having to "save as" multiple version numbers just to get my work done. Please let us know when this will be fixed.

I also have these additional files showing with a weird icon that I've never seen.

For me the only solution was to completely deativate the Avivra Anti Virus software. Which does not feel good, but it was the only way to get readable and writeable files from the server.

We aren't using any anti-virus except what comes with Microsoft Windows, so that's not the issue.

(Also, since we are using InCopy / InDesign, we can't rename files)

Same here. Windows 10. Working off a local file server. Since the update to Indesign 2023 files can't be saved (overwrite). Not always. Sometimes the very same file can be and the next moment not. Very annoying when working with linked Incopy files.

I'm sorry for the frustration you've experienced with this issue in InDesign. The team has logged a similar bug for this issue and is actively working on a fix. Could you please check and confirm if you're experiencing the issue on the ID 17.4 version as well?

We will continue to keep you updated on the progress of this bug and let you know as soon as we have more information. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Please advise on a date on which this problem will be resolved.

I'm having this issue as well and cannot, on my company's server/network, pop in with new scripts, especially not shortcut to as common a keyboard shortcut as Command + S.

Also, this doc I'm working on--I converted it in December, so it's not that issue now. Save As still blocks me from saving. Creating a new file/file name messes with my company's doc naming protocals.

In a deadline-driven production workflow, this is an exasperating ordeal. Please fix this!

Thank you Rob Day. However, my files don't open as [Converted] but [Read Only]. I have the same problem even with new files created in v.18.1

I am getting the same issue since upading to v.18. I'm working on Windows from a local server. Some (not all) files open as Read Only (thees are not converted from previous ID versions). Close and reopen the same file and it opens fine. I was hoping v.18.1 might have fixed this, but no. Having the rename files all the time is VERY frustrating and time consuming.

Same here. Thank you. I had no idea you could open the file, then close it and reopen it....and then it opens the way it should.. I just tried it and it worked.... I guess we can call that a "work-around" but a time-consuming one at that.

Ready for this to be fixed.
