Adding text to my photos

New Here ,
Feb 25, 2025 Feb 25, 2025

I would like to add some text to my photos after I edit them in lightroom CC. Like, I do bird photography and I want to add the bird name in a corner of the photos. How can this be done? I have attached an example. The only way I have figured out is to add such text as a watermark, but that is not my intent.

As LrC never changes the image portion of your original photos, there is no "add text" function, except at export. There used to be (and maybe still is, I don't know) a plugin called Mogrify that will add text superimposed on your exported photos; I leave it up to you to do the proper searching.

Another option is to write the metadata to the exported file, which in my mind is a better solution, as this information can stay with the original photos and stay with the exported photo as well.

Lastly, there is Photoshop which can place text on your photos.

Here is the link to the LR/Mogrify plug-in that dj_paige mentioned. What could make it useful is that it can add text based on image metadata, so for example if “Asian Openbill” was entered into the Caption field in Lightroom Classic, you could set LR/Mogrify to automatically overlay an image’s Caption field so that you wouldn’t have to type anything. This would allow bulk export of images with the correct overlaid text for each image. To read about this, in the following link scroll down to the Text Annotations section.

This question is posted in the Lightroom Classic forum, so hopefully you mean Lightroom Classic. If you mean the Lightroom cloud version (which was formerly called Lightroom CC), then the above solution will not work because plug-ins work only in Lightroom Classic.

If you are using cloud Lightroom and need a solution for that, the community for that version is here:

But there might not be a good solution for cloud Lightroom.

The Lightroom-Classic Print module can 'Print To:'  an attached printer, or a JPG file.

The Print module will allow text on the border below an image (not ON the image). By default it is centered. Font size is adjustable.

The text can be drawn from metadata from a Preset in [Photo Info...]

You can edit and create a preset with your combination of metadata.

For Example- This image has a [Photo Info...] preset that prints- Title - Caption - Keywords
